"More than 300 priests..."

Unbelievable to me. I can't wrap my brain around that kind of abuse and broken trust and predatory behavior. I'm sure Frem would just shake his head and say something along the lines of "Fools! I tried tellin' you!" Fwiw I did listen and ever since his posts was not been able to look at any child focused service without a huge amount of suspicion mixed with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

And if this 300 is just one state and just the ones that are known of, or that the church will confess to... we're looking at close to 10,000 cases across the country minimum. And that's just the catholic church.

Time to turn the churches into shelters maybe.

This is not new for the Catholic church. Go a little farther back into their history and you will find that kind of abuse in the Residential school system on both sides of the line.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

This is not new for ANY authority over children. Hell, children are trafficked every day. The question is: How do we stop it?

Definitely Brenda. I thought we had reached a threshold of sorts where these predators were mostly found out and arrested or removed. Looks like many of these cases are older and some of these offenders have either died or are no longer in the church, but it continues somehow. I can't get past the numbers.

Understood CC. I am not shocked. The church will continue to cover and shuffle these predators around.

True and that is the question.

I think this only stops if the Church stops it. Sadly, they've shown that only if it threatens the church or is revealed by way of legal means, will they start to come forward. If they put as much time and money and effort into getting rid of this stain and taking a public stand there might be a chance.
Or would these "people" just find another avenue? Which leads to another conversation that most people don't want to have and that's how do you, or can you even, treat the individual? Do you even try? That's a discussion full of so many pitfalls and dark places.

The only way to threaten the church is too threaten to take away or outright take away their tax free status.

I think studies have shown that these "people" will find other avenues. Teaching, coaching children's teams.

I don't believe you can treat a pedophile and change them. And you have a point about the pitfalls of discussing what to do.
