This is going on quietly as we focus in on that other POS Trump's and the GOP's assault on the country.

Rachel told me to pass this on....ha, ha!

Here's a little nugget that may get you to think....I know that's asking a lot of some people, but here it is anyway.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

If the neo-cons and their allies the neo-liberals (that's you) get their way, we'll all be eating radioactive shit, and die.

Problem solved.

Well, as SIX says, that's one positive result of the Dems gaining control of the House: statis.

Personally, I'm not too concerned about the House going to the Dems. Impeachment would be a pointless political exercise for the Dems since the Senate has to vote on removal. I can't think of a domestic program that the Repubs AND the Dems wouldn't fuck up/ screw over us regular folks anyway* ... like the Dems voting to hemorrhage money into healthcare insurances and big pharma, and the Repubs voting to reduce Social Security and Medicare.

Everything I wanted Trump to do could be done from the Office of the President, as Chief executive and Commander-in-Chief, WITHOUT Congress.

1) Get out of trade deals which are adjudicated in secret trade tribunals
2) End illegal immigration
3) Make nice with Russia (and hopefully end our endless wars abroad)

I wasn't too keen on Trump's domestic agenda. (I know I posted this before; but you all were so busy having temper tantrums you failed to notice and think.) The only downside that I can see to the House going to the Dems is that Nunes' committee gets shut down.

So dial down the hysteria, if at all possible.

*What we REALLY need is a program that borrows from the left AND the right (and not the average of the two) and adds something that neither the Dems nor the Repubs are talking about:

Cut military spending and end our endless interventions abroad.

We also need

Tariffs and closed borders; and providing real aid (not just military "assistance") abroad
Higher taxes AND an improved economy
More environmental protection AND a repaired infrastructure
A Federal Bank AND to re-institute Glass-Steagall

THIS IS NOT A CASE OF EITHER/OR. You've been sucked into a false dichotomy which prevents you from seeing alternatives.

You cannot gut a Ponzi Scheme, you just end it.

What kind of gullible Fiscally Illiterate believes in a Ponzi Scheme, even if it is called Social Security? Other than Libtards.

That's all well and good for you. You've got a nice 401k. For the rest of us that don't have one and are currently paying over 15% of our income to SS and MC, it would be nice to have a little money coming in so we're not working into our 80s after we've been paying into it for so long.

I do agree though that it's a ponzi scheme.

It's not going anywhere. I've been hearing that for 35 years now. It will be a political tool used on us until the day I die.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

You have NOT been "paying into" anything. That is part of the Ponzi Scheme sales pitch from FDR, who died before we were born. Wake up. That is nothing more than Confiscation by the Government, no matter how many times Clintons call it Contributions to make it more palatable for the lemmings and sheeple.
After a company decides they can afford to spend $30 per hour to have somebody to work for them, then each hour that YOU actually PERFORM WORK the Government CONFISCATES "Payroll Taxes" so that after company expenses and benefits (most are Government mandated) are subtracted, you end up with your "Wage" of about $15 per hour, which shows up on your paystub, so that the Government can Confiscate even more of your money, before you ever get your hands on it. This leaves you with about $8-11 of the $30 that your employer must spend each hour to allow you to work.
So you're whining about $2 while turning a blind eye to the $20 of Taxation that are Confiscated from your work? If you focused on getting the Tax Confiscation reduced, you not only would be less concerned about the tiny things, but SS/MC might even become viable.
Currently MC is scheduled to become insolvent in 2026, 8 years from now, with 100% (working population) Confiscation and only 15% participation (benefits).

If you choose to be tooled, that is your biz, like Wishi. Also your choice of lubed or prison-style.
If not, explain to me how you can make SS and/or MC viable, self-sustaining, and solvent - at least until you are 65.
Tell us.

Dood, I paid taxes as an employer and that's not how it works. Social Security and Medicare taxes are separate from other taxes. If you want to make the argument that they're a "Ponzi scheme" that's not the way to make your point.

Who says SIX is turning a blind eye to the "other" taxes?? Did YOU just turn into an AIL? Are YOU arguing with the voices in your head now?

It's extremely simple, JSF: SS taxes only on the first roughly $133,000 of income. If the cap were to be eliminated, SS would be sustainably funded.

Also, thanks to GWB Part D Medicare is prohibited from negotiating better drug prices with pharma. Allow Medicare to negotiate better prices, and watch your costs shrink.

I just did.

Also, it would help if there were more good jobs out there, not just minimum wage/gig economy.

Making Social Security sustainably funded isn't rocket science, and IMHO both it and Medicare are legitimate functions of the Federal government. But AS YOU KNOW, I think we need to reduce and eventually eliminate the Federal deficit, not off the back of Social Security and Medicare, but off of our bloated military budget.

As far as I can tell, the REAL Ponzi schemes are banking and the stock market because they both depend on sucking in more and more money in order to rise in value. If you want to reform, let's include that too.
