After Botched Recount, Nelson Concedes To Scott In Controversial Florida Race, Giving GOP 52 Senate Seats

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) conceded a hotly contested Senate race to Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) on Sunday - nearly two weeks after the midterm election and following two contentious recounts, Scott said in a statement.

"I just spoke with Senator Bill Nelson, who graciously conceded, and I thanked him for his years of public service," said Scott. "This victory would not be possible without the hard work of so many people. Now the campaign truly is behind us, and that’s where we need to leave it. We must do what Americans have always done: come together for the good of our state and our country."

Nelson was expected to give a concession speech on Sunday at approximately 3 p.m. EST.

The contest came to an end after a noon deadline passed for county election officials to submit the results of a hand recount, which showed Scott leading Nelson by 10,333 votes - or .12 percentage points. The hand recount was triggered after a machine recount showed the two candidates separated by just 12,603 votes.

Scott's victory gives the GOP a 52-47 majority in the Senate, pending the outcome of a Mississippi special election that will be decided Nov. 27.

Democrats originally had hoped that Broward County, where there were roughly 30,000 ballots on which machines either picked up multiple votes on the same ballot for the Senate race or no vote at all in that contest — known as "overvotes" and "undervotes.

They thought it was possible that the machines had erred and simply not read valid votes for the Senate race correctly.

But Broward County updated its website shortly before noon Sunday with new numbers showing that voters had simply not picked a candidate in the race, perhaps due to the design of the ballot. -NBC

The Scott-Nelson race recount was rife with difficulties that appeared to be outright vote rigging. During the machine recount, Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Brenda Snipes, submitted the results two minutes late - denying Scott an additional 779 votes.

Meanwhile, Broward election officials were seen throwing ballot boxes into rented moving vans - while two provisional ballot boxes were discovered in an AVIS rental car at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport, though they were later reported to be unmarked ballots.

"There were only unmarked ballots in the box along with supplies and materials," said Broward attorney and GOP State Committeeman Richard DeNapoli. "But still, having unmarked ballots floating around or sitting at an airport is not a thing that inspires confidence."

Meanwhile, nearly 3,000 votes effectively disappeared during a Broward recount.

Officials said about 10 out-of-place envelopes containing ballots were brought to the canvassing board’s attention. Besides the mix-up, Larry Davis, a lawyer for Democrat Nikki Fried’s campaign, asked the canvassing board about votes that didn’t add up into Broward’s machine recount.

“There’s really an issue with 2,000 ballots that are missing from the original count that was sent on the secretary of state on Saturday the 10th, Davis said.

Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes told WLRN reporters those 2,040 missing votes were “intermingled” and never included in the machine recount last week. Broward will now use its first initial count -- not the machine recount. Those lost votes did end up in the final count sent to the state.

When also asked if he knew about the envelope mix-up, and if they were now labeled and stacked properly, he laughed.

“It’s hard to say, it’s Broward County Supervisor of Elections,”
Davis said. -WLRN

Will Broward County ever fix its election quagmires?

The reason why I don't think this is deliberate fraud is because Broward County fuckups only hurt Democrats. It's not fraud, it's just revolting incompetence.

Are they insinuating that people are retarded, or that these ballots were purposefully made so complex that your average person couldn't even do them?

I'm not sure what the problem was THIS TIME, but last time the problem was the "butterfly ballot", which opened up like a book with candidates on each side. As I gather, that ballot was so difficult to understand because the punch-dots (in the middle) didn't line up exactly with the related candidate, so it was hard to figure out which spot went with which candidate. THIS time?? Not sure, but it was probably some fuckup kind of like that.

If ballots aren't made for the lowest common denominator, then either they were intentionally made to mislead stupid people, or we used taxpayer dollars to pay the bloated salary of an idiot that designed them.

I've only ever voted on machines. They were always stupid easy, although I did take my time and double read everything before I went to the next page.

Also, although I would never do it myself, I don't recommend anybody ever press the button for "All Democrat" or "All Republican" either. I've heard stories where those buttons don't do what they're designed to do. I wouldn't trust them even if I didn't, but then again I've never filled out a 1040 EZ and I still mail my taxes in.

As I understood it, the gubernatorial part was prominently display, while the senate part of the ballot was neatly tucked away at the lower left hand bottom of the ballot. It was not easy to find, and this was the case in Broward County, the largest area with the most registered Democrats in the state.
Some 25 thousand ballots of the senate race were left unmarked. Why was that?

Another question that comes to mind. Didn't Scott question the veracity of the elections? Then why did he win? Meaning, if the elections were tainted in some way, doesn't it stand to reason that his election to the senate is in question? Generally speaking, of course. If it's tainted, it's all tainted.
If it's true that 25 thousand ballots were left unmarked as to the senate part of the ballot, then doesn't that raise some questions? If his claims of fraud in Broward hold water, then it stands to reason that other counties may have had similar problems. Why is the blame so surgically placed? And this without a full investigation; just pure allegation.

Another question is if it's known that a particular problem arises in one county or another, why wasn't this addressed sooner? And why, under his administration, wasn't it remedied? Fixed? All these years, and yet nothing was done. It's as if the 2000 elections never happened.

Because nowhere else in FL were they "finding" ballots after the vote had been counted, AND nowhere else were there "undervotes" because of ballot design, AND nowhere else were they finding serious errors in the info provided to provisional-ballot voters.

Not sure about where YOU live, SHINY, but voting is NOT conducted by "statewide" procedures but county-to-county. Each county decides what kind of voting/ vote-counting machine to use, what kind of ballot to use (because you wouldn't use a "punchout" counting-machine for an ink-dot ballot), where to put polling stations, etc. These various (DIFFERENT) plans are then approved by the State Secretary. That's how, in 2000, Florida got the "hanging chad" controversy in one county (Broward), the "butterfly ballot" controversy in another (Palm Beach), and the serious electronic voting error* (Volusia County) ALL IN THE SAME STATE IN THE SAME RACE.

*
Quote:

The problem was that the machine also claimed those [registered] 412 voters had somehow given Bush 2,813 votes and in addition had given Gore a negative vote count of -16,022 votes (Green Party candidate Ralph Nader was shown to have an even larger negative vote, though he was not considered a likely winner of the whole Florida election)

In this latest election (2018) Broward county leads the fuckup race.

*****

But, in any case ...

Quote:

Broward County election supervisor Brenda Snipes resigns following chaotic Florida recount

Broward's election track record is marred by mismanagement and improper procedures. Snipes' handling of the 2018 election was also problematic, particularly in the tight Senate race between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Rick Scott. On election night, Broward failed to report vote totals to the state every 45 minutes, Politico reported. Broward's recount process took much longer than most of the other Florida counties. Snipes acknowledged over the weekend her office has misplaced more than 2,000 ballots included in the original count.

The Post reported that Broward election officials also missed a key deadline for the recount by two minutes, meaning the Florida secretary of state rejected the county's machine-based tally.

Snipes was originally appointed as the county's top election official by then-Gov. Jeb Bush in 2003 after her predecessor botched an election. The 75-year-old has gone on to win reelection continually to the post, despite a number of issues cropping up over the years.

In previous Broward County votes under Snipes
Quote:

Woman Overseeing Broward Vote Count Illegally Destroyed Ballots in Previous Race
A judge ruled in 2016 that Snipes violated federal election law by prematurely destroying ballots from a congressional race that were relevant to an outstanding lawsuit against her office. As a result, the Florida Department of State said elections experts would be dispatched to monitor Snipes’s office in future elections to “ensure that all laws are followed.”

Snipes was once again chastised by the court in February of this year after the state’s Republican party sued her for opening mail-in ballots before the Board of Elections had the opportunity to examine the ballots and determine their authenticity.

It's entirely possible that "a" person's healthcare went up 350%, even if the average didn't. I don't know why you would deny someone's personal experience by quoting averages at them. That's like telling a batter that he didn't bat what he did because the league-wide average is something else.

This is a recipe for disastrous results. One thing I heard was that she was picked by Bush (although I'm not sure which one). I'm going to create another thread to discuss Occasio-Cortez' "policies" (which read more like a wish-list than anything real).

The Florida recount is done, and Scott won. Snipes resigned, but I'm sure this won't be the end of Florida's voting troubles ... or anyone else's for that matter ... until they fix our voting system to take it out of the hands of partisan hacks and add protective layers that will make it a lot more durable from interference by BOTH parties and malicious vandalism (or worse) from the outside.

Her problem isn't that she's young, like some people have said. Her problem is that instead of teaching anything real about how American Government works in her American Government class, she had a rabid ultra-lib "teaching" the class and brainwashing the kids with Democrat bias.

Maybe if she works really really hard she can be the first female in the Chamber of the Presidency!

Are you dodging again?
Seriously, when you say "socialism" what do you mean, or what have you been told it means, or has anyone told you to understand the phrase or do they just say, "accuse them of socialism. It's the current negative spin."

You brought up her platform - which parts are you against? You seem to have a hard time answering basic questions - even the ones you ask.

Why dodge? Here you go:

Socialism:

a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
synonyms: leftism, welfarism;

radicalism, progressivism, social democracy;
communism, Marxism, labor movement

(in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.

~Source: Google

Speaking of Marxism, of which you also clearly subscribe to...

Cultural Marxism:

Cultural Marxism is a branch of Marxist ideology formulated by the Frankfurt School, which had its origins the early part of the twentieth century. Cultural Marxism comprises much of the foundation of political correctness. It emerged as a response of European Marxist intellectuals disillusioned by the early political failures of conventional economic Marxist ideology.[1]

The central idea of Cultural Marxism is to soften up and prepare Western Civilization for economic Marxism after a gradual, relentless, sustained attack on every institution of Western culture, including schools, literature, art, film, the Judeo-Christian religious tradition, the family,[2] sexual mores, national sovereignty, etc.[3] The attacks are usually framed in Marxist terms as a class struggle between oppressors and oppressed; the members of the latter class allegedly include women, minorities, homosexuals, and adherents of non-Western ideologies such as Islam. Cultural Marxism has been described as "the cultural branch of globalism."[4]

Your world outlook fits those definitions. Maybe instead of trying to change the definitions of Socialism and Marxism, you should change yourself if you don't like the outcome.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Your post history speaks for itself. You're a Communist. It's quite funny when you call Kiki and Sigs Russian trolls when you're the Communist here.

No, it was you, idiot. You're the one that had to go to Google for a def of socialism, even though you throw it around like you know what it means. And then you throw around communism... you're just a typing parrot.

Once again, you can't be specific - yet another form of you running away. Try again. You have an opinion that you have posted publicly. Surely you have actually reasons for having that opinion, right? What exactly in my post history leads you to believe I'm a communist?

You post that shit as if to say "I'm not a Communist", and you expect anybody to take you seriously.

Honestly, I thought you posted that to show me that I was right.

I thought you said if I liked her it proved I was a socialist? Yep, you did. Were you confused? Have you switched to Communism or do you think they're the same?

I'll try again - I bet this time you run away though...

Seriously, when you say "socialism" what do you mean, or what have you been told it means, or has anyone told you to understand the phrase or do they just say, "accuse them of socialism. It's the current negative spin." Is "communism" the new spin term?

Why dodge? Here you go:

Socialism:

a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
synonyms: leftism, welfarism;

radicalism, progressivism, social democracy;
communism, Marxism, labor movement

(in Marxist theory) a transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.

That's a dodge. I asked you for your definition not Goggle's, duh. And if you think even Googie's definition is what Ortez is pushing you're just another pointless dumb sh*t flapping his gums on social media. Why did you say sociaslist and then communism? Were you confused? And then you say, "Speaking of Marxism, of which you also clearly subscribe to..." which is also dumb f*ckery on your part. You want to play with the adults but you have the understanding of a 6 year old. Is that where you got your username?

Nice job being SIGHOLE'S lap dog though - you excel at that.

Are you still illiterate? You should look into that.

The Definition provided clearly states that Marxism is a synonym of Socialism, and that Socialism is a transition stage in the devolution from Capitalism toward Communism.

So your only refuge is that you disagreed with a common Definition, while withholding your alternative definition?

All of your posted questions were already answered in the post you quoted, before you even dreamt up the quasi-pseudo-question. Why do you insist upon being infantile while attempting intercourse with adults?

*SIGHOLE pats 'lil 6 on the head* "Good boy!"

"So your only refuge is that you disagreed with a common Definition, while withholding your alternative definition?"

Not my "only refuge" sfb - there's the one where I'm not any of those things.

Keep making sh*t up - that's a Trumptard's only refuge.

This post, idiot.

Sigs was not a part of this conversation, idiot.

Broward's Bungling Election Chief Sacked "Immediately" Despite January Retiremen Plans

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced on Friday the "immediate" suspension of Brenda Snipes, Broward County's embattled election supervisor, after a series of voting-related scandals which peaked during the 2018 midterms, according to Politico. Scott was eventually forced to sue her to obtain public information.

"Every eligible voter in Florida deserves their vote to be counted and should have confidence in Florida’s elections process," Scott told Politico in a written statement. "After a series of inexcusable actions, it’s clear that there needs to be an immediate change in Broward County and taxpayers should no longer be burdened by paying a salary for a Supervisor of Elections who has already announced resignation."

I suffer no concern that her "bungling" was anything other than intentional.
