The gerrymanding did hold as both the Dakotas went red. There should have been two big blue spots on South Dakota but because of the Republicans denying Native Americans their right to vote there isn't.

Sorry Brenda. The Dakotas are always red.

North Dakota:

Quote:

North Dakota joined the Union in November 1889 and has participated in all elections from 1892 onwards. Since 1900, North Dakota voted Democratic 17.24 percent of the time and Republican 82.76 percent of the time. Since 1968, the state has always voted Republican.

South Dakota:

Quote:

South Dakota is reliably Republican in presidential elections – only voting Democratic four times, most recently in 1964 when Lyndon Johnson won a landslide victory over Barry Goldwater. South Dakota is one of seven states with the minimum three electoral votes.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Jack, I just went and looked up how many reserves there are in those two states. There are 9 reservations in South Dakota and 5 in North Dakota. The majority of Indians in North Dakota are Dakotah/Lakotah along with Wahpeton, Sisseton, Yanktonia, Arikara, Hidasta and Mandan. Also Chippewa, Cree and Metis.
Should also mention that in South Dakota too would be majority Dakotah/Lakotah.

Native Americans vote Democrat. Why in the hell do you think the Republicans were trying to get P.O. Boxes banned during the mid-terms? The majority of those are used by Indians on reservations.

I would think that majority of those voter numbers you posted to me will and have been white.

It's sad Brenda but even sadder is our local trolls denying the truth of it all.

North Dakota's Native American population is 5.2%
South Dakota's Native American population is 8.9% (This stat is mixed with "Alaskan Native" for some reason).

Both house races ended up right around 60% Republican to 36% Democrat.

There was no Senate race in South Dakota.

North Dakota's Senate race was 55.4% Republican to 44.6% Democrat.

In the house, neither race would have been close if every Native, including all children not even eligible voted.

In the North Dakota Senate race it is extremely unlikely that it would have swayed the results by 11% when the demographic makeup of Natives is only 5.2%, which doesn't even take into account how many are even registered to vote. I was not able to find that information anywhere for either state.

I think it's pretty bold to say that all Native Americans vote Democrat. If you didn't have the ancestry yourself, I'd say that's just as racist as saying all black people vote Democrat, which isn't true by a long shot.

You are correct that I shouldn't have implied that all Native Americans vote Democrat, Jack.

I get tired when I hear stories of Native Americans getting the short end of the stick. That's why I posted or tried to post the link to that NPR story about Native IDs not being accepted at polling places. So everyone could read what was being done. That story came out of South Dakota and I mentioned voting notices not going to PO boxes and that meant those notices wouldn't reach reservations because that is how the mail is delivered to reservations. There are no street addresses or little towns or whatever on reserves.

Thank you for taking what I said at face value and not reading things into it that weren't implied. This is what rational people like us do, but I must admit my hesitation when talking anything politics with you Brenda because I know that we probably don't see eye to eye on some things and I like you. :)

Like Kiki, I think any effort that is actively or even passively has motives to disenfranchise voters is wrong, but I wasn't commenting on that specifically.

I was just saying that if this really did happen I don't know why somebody would do it in the Dakotas because the impact either way was next to negligible. I don't see the ROI on it.

If it were a swing state like Florida it would make a lot more sense to me. (Definitely not saying that it would be right, just that I could see why a person or a group would think it was worth the risk).

I can understand your reluctance to discuss politics with me Jack. And I know we won't see eye to eye on a great deal of things. 1) is that I am Canadian. 2) I am about 20years older than you and after everything that has happened to me and my family I have a different world view to you. Such is things.

Disenfranchising anyone on voting is wrong regardless of who is being talked about.

I understand from elections down in the US that Florida can go either way which is why it is called a "swing" state. Very different from up here in Canada. So, yes from what you are saying it would make more sense for it to have happened there.

For now I'm going to assume it's a fact, just because the fact should be easy enough to check with some investment of time. So, assuming it's a fact, that makes the 'why' very puzzling.

Yeah. I should probably clairify that statement. I didn't mean to say that I think it's a lie or "fake news". Just like doing this in the Dakotas for any political gain wouldn't make any sense, lying about it happening when it would be pretty easy to check up on wouldn't make any sense either.

I may be way off base, but here's my guess...

It had nothing to do with American Indians in the Dakotas at all and that was just an unfortunate side effect of new laws to curb voter fraud that wern't thought out very well, considering the large American Indian population in those two states and their way of handling addresses and post office affairs. I mean, I'm not from the Dakota's myself, but I certainly didn't know that most people living on reservations in America did not have street addresses where they live until this story came up.

If you look at the law itself without how it was unfortunately handled and applied to the Native population, I don't see anything wrong with it really, TBH. In almost any other situation I can think of it sounds good on paper... except of course when it doesn't. Although I wouldn't have thought about how it would have affected American Indians if the proposal were brought to my table since I was completely unaware of their situation, my first question would have been "what about homeless people? Don't they get a vote if they're registered?"

Then again, I don't get the feeling that there is much of a homeless population in the Dakotas either. Legislation like that would never have picked up any steam in Illinois with the homeless population in Chicago and (one assumes) Springfield and Peoria.

Didn't I read somewhere that there was a halt to that legislation leading up to the elections and the Natives were to get a vote in the mid-terms or am I mistaken?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Election results show how gerrymandering is difficult to overcome: 'We did everything we could`

With an election looming, courts earlier this year declared congressional districts in two states to be unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders. One map was redrawn. The other was not.

The sharply contrasting outcomes that resulted on Election Day in Pennsylvania and North Carolina illustrate the importance of how political lines are drawn — and the stakes for the nation because that process helps determine which party controls Congress.

Incorrect.

That's a VERY old story by the shill media we're all aware of.

If you read the dialog that has come before, there is absolutely ZERO ROI for keeping American Indians in the Dakotas from voting. The ONLY thing that would come of that is people like you crying racism and voter suppression.

It would only make sense if they did it in a swing state, like Florida.

Just as voter fraud by Democrats isn't rampant all over the country. There would be no reason for them to try it in the Dakotas. All of the sudden the Dakotas turn blue and nobody is going to investigate that seismic shift for voter fraud? Don't think so. But they will try to get away with it in counties with large urban areas in swing states that will be close.

You asked three questions in there, two of which deserve their own question marks. The funny thing is, you got it right once, so why not all three times?

One of the funniest demonstrations of how punctuation makes a difference is this:

It's just fine, huh?

Apparently they didn't teach you English at whatever shithole schools you went to.

It actually should read like this, in full:

Quote:

Hey! Do you guys know what white supremacists hate more than Jews? Polaks.

Who here fits that description? Kiki and Sig, to name two.

Who loves the Polak hater Trump? Kiki and Sig, to name two.

We'll give 10% off for each mistake.

"Hey!" is it's own sentence. A period or exclamation point could be used. -10

Missing "Do" to start off the next sentence, which is a question. -10

Missing "s" at the end of supremacists which is used pluralized in your sentence. -10

Missing "?" after Jews to end the question. -10

No points deleted for "Polaks" as a single word sentence as it is a one word answer to a question.

Missing "," after sig -10

Missing "?" at the end of the question "Who loves the Polak hater Trump?" -10

Missing "," once again after sig -10

I won't even count the extra commas you have in there because you don't know how sentences work, particularly when asking questions. We won't even count that you don't capitalize pronouns either. Yanno... just to save you the shame of a negative score.

That still leaves you with a score of 30%. I do hope you're proud of yourself, retard.

You can go ahead and look all of that up on your smartphone since you need it to make up for your lack of education.

Maybe if you didn't continue to put that idiot quote at the end of everything you post, people would have let it slide the first dozen or so times.

THUGR, I'm going to make the same point that SIX did: Your grammar is way off. What you SHOULD have posted is

Quote:

You asked three questions in there, two of which deserve their own question marks. The funny thing is, you got it right once, so why not all three times?

One of the funniest demonstrations of how punctuation makes a difference is this:

Let's eat grandma!
versus
Let's eat, grandma!

I let you guys continue on because I was getting a kick out of your stupidity. Three questions says SIG. You need question marks says Jack. I'm not asking but one question in my signature and there, there is a question mark. Even though I answer that question in the next sentence. Mostly I'm making statements.

You guys are complete fucking morons and that Jack is why educating oneself is good. Or when speaking to you I guess I should say, education gooood. No education baaad. Dummy...

I know you're supposedly an adult now and that it's been a long time since an English teacher has graded any of your writing, but you're absolutely delusional if you think that anything about your ridiculous signature is legitimate English.

And you still have no idea how to use tags and/or you're a troll.

This post reminds me of Pee Wee Herman, you know when he says things like:

"I know you are, but what am I?"

"Made ya look!"

Fun at Pee Wee's Playhouse!

The word of the day is - president (not to be confused with: clown)

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Hi SGG

I realize this was for Brenda, but I appreciate the information. I thought that maybe the voter ID law effect on Native Americans might be a 'kick-the-dog' side effect (and you get to kick the dog for free) but it looks far more intentional than that.

My own information was looking at the Native Americans in Arizona and New Mexico, b/c I have just a smidge more information on them. How aware are the Anglos of the Native American populations in their states, how well do they understand the circumstances of Native Americans, etc. I didn't think the legislature could be so ignorant that they would have written something that hostile by accident. But I didn't figure out the motive.

It looks like at least in N Dakota there is a big effort to get especially reservation residents the proper ID. I don't think it was quite ready for this election cycle, hopefully it'll all by in place by 2020.

The Republicans’ Midwest ‘Power Grab’

GOP legislators are moving to strip authority from incoming Democrats in Wisconsin and Michigan, taking a page from North Carolina.

In Wisconsin and Michigan, Republicans are responding to their loss of top statewide offices in last month’s elections by rapidly trying to undercut the Democrats about to take office. The gambit seems straight out of North Carolina, where Republicans used the lame-duck session after the 2016 elections to limit the power of the incoming Democratic governor in what one top Democrat called a “legislative coup”—and largely got away with it.

Thank you SGG. Now you understand why I was angry. I should have mentioned initially that the activists were getting out to try and get the "id" that the government was requiring for voting. Mobilizing as many people as possible.

Hi Kiki,

One thing I have learned over the years is that if there is a way to "kick" Native Americans the American government will find it.

I hope it will be better in 2020 but I am not holding my breath.

Were there any problems in New Mexico and Arizona with Native American voting in the mid-terms?

I should look up the states that my own tribe resides in.

South Dakota did not have a Senate race this year.
If you want to see a map, search "Election results by county 2016 S Dakota" and I used the wiki result.
SD had 5 Blue, ND had 2 Blue. I'm not sure where all the Reservations are.

Virginia races will gauge Trump’s appeal in suburbs

A year after President Trump won the White House, voters in Virginia delivered a startling rebuke to Republicans, choosing a new Democratic governor and pushing out more than a dozen GOP state legislators - foreshadowing the wave that handed Democrats control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections.

Later this year, 12 months before Trump faces voters again, Democrats hope for a repeat of the suburban slaughter that caught the GOP so off guard.

Strategists on both sides will watch Virginia's legislative elections closely for clues about voter energy ahead of the 2020 presidential contest.

Warren? No. She's an amazing, accomplished human being that has done a great deal for all Americans, but too polarizing. I am glad she has broken the seal so-to-speak and has started to campaign. Hopefully that gets the other Dems out there and they start taking over the msm attention from Dump. There are plenty of smarter, better choices in the Dems than Dump of course, just have to find the one that will click with the most voters, especially the undecideds. I think Landrieu could do that as a "radical centrist" (if you need a label).

Don't know Mitch but a mayor from New Orleans may have a background in corruption that could raise it's ugly head. As for Warren. She never once showed foreign policy chops. Besides, I don't want to go to progressive. I'm a centrist.

I certainly thought that very same thing about Mitch and NO and corruption possibilities if not certainties... and maybe that's why he's not running (if he isn't)? Underscores the importance of Vetting, and hopefully an upfront candidate. Listen to a few of his videos, he's definitely in the middle and I agree with you on that pov.
