Quote:

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began to pick up steam in China in January, experts have been scrambling to get a handle on the disease and the way it behaves. But they have also warned that estimates are not exact, and that numbers are likely to shift over time. One key reason: people with milder versions of the illness are underrepresented in official case counts, since they may not be sick enough to seek medical attention or realize they have anything more than a cold. Some people, research now suggests, may get infected by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, without showing any symptoms at all.

That means the total number of reported cases is very likely an underestimate—and by not counting many mild or asymptomatic cases, we’re likely overestimating the disease’s overall mortality rate.

In the U.S., where only seven tests have been administered per million residents, the mortality rate is above 5%.

One thing he did mention many times is that there are only a limited number of test kits... in his estimation, each hospital is getting only 100 kits per day, and that the hospitals are EXTREMELY reluctant to test people if they don't believe that the patient is seriously sick with flu.

IF TRUE, that does a couple of things ... it reduces the total number of diagnosed patients. At the same time, it drastically increases the measured death rate [case fatality rate], since asymptomatic/ mildly symptomatic people would never be tested positive. The only way to get a true death rate [case fatality rate] is near-universal testing of at least one sub-population. - January 31

These were my posts # 2,3, and 4 on the topic.

I have been -literally- posting about the lack of testing and its effect on case fatality rate since January. So, it looks like Time magazine finally caught up with ME.

But the reality is, it doesn't matter what the "case fatality rate" is. When bodies start stacking up in refrigerated trucks and ice rinks (in the USA, btw) because there isn't enough room for them, the death rate is just too damn high.

Then why are you letting your animal brain succumb to the panic the same Legacy Media who has been lying to you for years has been successfully instilling in millions of people who bent knee almost immediately to our government because of fear?

You just gave an example of three posts since January. Every day I've made this point. You seem to recognize that the numbers are bullshit, but you don't act as if they are.

Oh, and BTW... Nobody caught on to the joke. I thought for sure somebody would have actually recognized the date of the article as March 9th. I guess the part of the article I quoted where only 7 for every 1,000,000 Americans had been tested would have given that away.

Quote:

But the reality is, it doesn't matter what the "case fatality rate" is. When bodies start stacking up in refrigerated trucks and ice rinks (in the USA, btw) because there isn't enough room for them, the death rate is just too damn high.

I don't see any reason to fear that's going to happen.

We already know there are tests done where they're now suspecting that up to 80 times as many people have had it and were never counted because they were not sick.

What none of these tests show, however, is what the case would be in New York state, and in particular New York city. They're so far ahead of the curve that it it completely disingenuous to apply any of their numbers to the rest of the states in the country as a whole.

Johns Hopkins shows 40,683 deaths in the US as the time of writing this post.

Breakdown of deaths in New York, and how high they are on the County Charts.

1. 14,451 - New York City
2. 1,281 - Nassau County
5. 825 - Suffulk County
7. 743 - Westchester County
18. 334 - Rockland County
31. 211 - Orange County
39. 135 - Erie County
72. 71 - Monroe County
143. 28 - Dutchess County
147. 27 - Stuben County
170. 22 - Albany County
187. 19 - Onondaga County
212. 16 - Ulster County
222. 15 - Niagara County
232. 14 - Schenectady County

That's 18,192 deaths out of 40,683 total in New York State alone.

At this point I would propose that in terms of doing any legitimate studies or figuring any numbers we consider New York State an entirely different country, separate from the rest of America.

Not to make our numbers look better, but because the situation there, particularly at the hub of the world that is New York City, is completely different than 99.9% of the rest of the country.

Of course, Johns Hopkins doesn't have a state by state tally of confirmed cases. But I did find this...

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/new-york-coronavirus-cases-upd
ates.html

248,417 Confirmed Cases (article updated 30 minutes ago, and total US cases claimed in the article are 759,000 so it seems up to date with Johns Hopkins saying 759,786 total confirmed US cases)

So what's the takeaway here?

45% of all US deaths to The Coomph are in New York State
(18,192 / 40,683)

33% of all US confirmed cases are in New York State
(248,417 / 759,786)

What does this tell me????

I think it's very well likely that everybody in New York has gotten it and death rates would level off soon even without a stay at home order.

Let's apply our 50-80x's infection rate to those numbers.

New York State Confirmed Cases: 248,417 x 50 = 12,420,850

New York State Confirmed Cases: 248,417 x 80 = 19,873,360

How many people live in New York State?

19,450,000

At 80x's the number of confirmed cases in NYS, there would be more people infected there already than actually live there. At 50x's, you're still looking at a 63% infection rate in the state.

Keep in mind, as well, that future death counts would also be reduced as the old and sick are already counted among the dead. Even though Democrats can use necromancy to get the dead to vote for them, they can't actually die twice. ;)

That point further illustrated in this article: https://abc7ny.com/nursing-home-homes-new-york-coronavirus-in-ny/61155
89
/

25% of all Coomph fatalities in New York are nursing home deaths.

Keep an eye on New York.

But don't buy into any stories that they're "flattening the curve" or that they had done anything to artificially flatten it. The time for them to have done so had passed a long, long time ago. It's everywhere in NY... particularly the city.

In fact, even looking at the entire state compared to the city is disingenuous in itself. 8,399,000 people live in NYC as opposed to 19,450,000 in the entire state (or 43%).

NYC might actually be close to 100% infection rate at this point, while the rest of the state is quite a bit lower than that. Over the next few weeks we may well witness in NYC and NYS the full extent of what The Coomph can do, and I for one think it's really good news (if you can separate your logical brain from your feels and look past the final death tally in the state/city).

Do Right, Be Right. :)

SIX: Then why are you letting your animal brain succumb to the panic the same Legacy Media who has been lying to you for years has been successfully instilling in millions of people who bent knee almost immediately to our government because of fear?

I'M NOT. But it must be the goal of every government to avert mass death, because otherwise the government itself will not survive. Even China is sensitive to the political instability that mass deaths cause.

This is like the Spanish flu, SIX. It's not any less serious. In some situations, where people live and work in crowds, mass death will result.

The case fatality rate is meaningless, but the numbers of dead are not. Did you look at that chart that I posted? The one that shows a year of deaths per week from flu noodling around the bottom of the chart, and heart attack and cancer way at the top? Did you happen to notice how the "death per week" from Covid-19 starts at zero and zooms waaaaaaay up, way past all other causes of death, right past the top line (heart attack) in a matter of a few weeks?

Here's another opportunity, Mr Denial

It has already happened, SIX. You just didn't notice because you've got your head stuck up your ass. Since you don't seem to know how to read, here are pictures and videos

Oakland County's Medical Examiner's Office is holding bodies of COVID-19 victims in its morgue, and is looking at ice rinks as a "last resort."
Michigan has seen a surge in COVID-19 deaths in recent weeks, and hospitals in the metro-Detroit area are facing capacity problems.
Many hospitals and morgues in metro Detroit are already using refrigerated trucks to store bodies, but they're becoming overrun.

Of course reefer storage, mass graves, storage in ice rinks have happened in many other nations. I've got pictures of those, too, if you're interested (which I know you're not because it would puncture that bubble that you've living in.)

Why are you arguing case fatality rate? The facts, and bodies, are in front of your eyes.

If all you're saying is that NYC is far ahead of "us" on the curve, then all you're saying is that we too, will get there, in due time. Overwhelmed hospitals, doctors choosing who will live and who will die, reefer trucks, mass graves and all.

Right?

No.

NYC is doing fine, and they're the absolute worst case scenario. They didn't do anything to "flatten the curve" back when it was still possible, and as I stated later in my post (yanno, the facts and numbers you completely avoided replying to), it is likely that NYC has a 100% infection rate with the surrounding cities not far behind.

Big nothing burger.

There are NOT a lot of deaths. Period.

40k deaths since the beginning of March isn't shit. Nearly 8,000 people die every day in the US. Even if we were somehow able to double that amount of deaths for a SHORT period of time until everyone is infected from the Coomph, there's plenty of room to bury the bodies when these good for nothing politicians open everything back up for business and people are paid to dispose of them again.

Still not convinced that you know how a virus works.

I missed where you said Trump was f*cking up. Yanno, getting his idiot followers to think they are empowered by him to go out and shoot up the town, hill jack style - especially in states with Dem governors.

Actually, never mind. He sent them out to rally with each other where they'll coof all over each other - problem solved, civil unrest taken care of. I can even imagine them going into the ICU and b*tching at the nurses, "Hoax! Don't touch me!" The only way to shut them up is to stick a hose down their throats - hope they leave the machines off.

436 deaths in NYC yesterday. Back on the 11th, we had celebrated 5 straight days of 700+ deaths.

There is no man-made "curve flattening" happening here. It's impossible in the City, and any attempt to do so was far too late.

New Yorkers literally live on top of each other in the City. Hardly any of them drive cars and use public transit. 25% of deaths in NYC were in old folks homes.

Based off of antibody testing and projections, it is very, very likely that 100% of New York City dwellers have been infected with The Coomph.

Open it back up and let people get back to their lives before they start tearing your city down.

Quote:

Fact 3: Vital population immunity is prevented by total isolation policies, prolonging the problem.

We know from decades of medical science that infection itself allows people to generate an immune response – antibodies – so that the infection is controlled throughout the population by “herd immunity.” Indeed, that is the main purpose of widespread immunization in other viral diseases — to assist with population immunity. In this virus, we know that medical care is not even necessary for the vast majority of people who are infected. It is so mild that half of infected people are asymptomatic, shown in early data from the Diamond Princess ship, and then in Iceland and Italy. That has been falsely portrayed as a problem requiring mass isolation. In fact, infected people without severe illness are the immediately available vehicle for establishing widespread immunity. By transmitting the virus to others in the low-risk group who then generate antibodies, they block the network of pathways toward the most vulnerable people, ultimately ending the threat. Extending whole-population isolation would directly prevent that widespread immunity from developing.

No ... not really. It's not a spontaneous mass uprising of unhappy citizens. It's being organized by political groups with a political agenda who are getting their comparatively few followers together, and egged on by Trump. Because that's Trump's Hail Mary pass to get out of the mess he created.

But yanno, if after a referendum, of course - because this is a democracy - the good people of any state decide they want to throw the doors open, I say more power to them! Just as long as they don't go begging the federal government for medical aid later.

Fact 3: Vital population immunity is prevented by total isolation policies, prolonging the problem.

Another non-fact from SIX.

The point of isolation isn't to "prevent" infection, it's to SLOW IT DOWN (a) medical facilities and resources aren't overwhelmed and (b) until treatment(s) can be developed.

It's a conceit ... oh, and a bad case of lying about someone else's goals ... to think that you can eliminate this virus thru social distancing.

Get a fucking dictionary.

noun: libel; plural noun: libels

1. Law
a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation.

Nothing anybody says here about anybody is damaging to anyone's reputation.

THAT DOES NOT APPLY ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE USA. Even studies with HIGH FALSE POSITIVE RATES don't show anywhere near double-digit infection rates, much less 50%+.

I don't have to post links to studies every time I talk about them. I'm referencing studies that I've already linked in one of the gross amount of topics that are dedicated to this non-issue. Go find it. Or Google it.

NYC deaths in the previous 24 hour period as per Johns Hopkins was down to 182. Less than 200. Quite a bit less than 50% of the prior day's 436.

Nope! At the top of this thread as far as I can tell is where you cited "studies" ... studies, by the way, which have not been completed until today ... with no links whatsoever. You NEVER link any of your "facts" unless it's home improvement.

What's "unimpressive" about it? It has become THE LEADING cause of death in just a couple of months. If you were in the middle of it, you'd probably feel diferently. As it is, I can only say that you lack imagination, or empathy, or both.

SIX: I don't know what that means. You're putting it in quotes, but I never said those words.

I'm not attributing the quote to you, just the attitude. You resent old people. You want some kind of catastrophe to occur that would leave the "strong" and "healthy" (you) to be unscathed. Your pretense of caring about the finances of the average person is just that: a pretense, because if you REALLY cared about them you'd care whether they lived or died or were left with catastrophic medical bills. Instead, you resist even the most common-sense actions that people can take to protect themselves and others ... like wearing masks and hand-washing. Your pretense is about caring about "freedom" is just that: a pretense, for the same reasons.

Many posts go, I asked you to clarify, at least in your own mind, what your goal is for the actions that you're proposing, which are (as far as I can tell) damn the social isolation, damn the masks and handwashing, damn looking for a treatment, damn the testing, just open up the economy and let the weak and elderly die.

Is that about right?

If so, what's your goal?
