That doesn't look like murder to me.

Having a hard time finding any racism either. In fact, I think everyone was pretty patient and calm given that this beast of a dude was obviously drugged out of his mind and acting paranoid and extremely sketchy.

This footage would make for a very boring Rage Against the Machine music video.

TBTB are going to have to realize that cameras being everywhere are going to make it harder for them to push their narrative.

It's absolutely abhorrent that this footage wasn't shown since day one, and we're only seeing it 2 months later. Despite the video having over 4.5 million views, YouTube is suppressing it by keeping it off trending and burying the search results under videos that only have a few thousand views.

The Legacy Media needs to go. And they can take Antifa and BLM with them. Maybe when Trump wins in November they can all go to California and split off from the union.

Here is one intepretation NOT MINE

Quote:

Now, with the leak of the police body-camera footage of the arrest of George Floyd, we have confirmation of what sensible people suspected all along: George Floyd was not a victim of police brutality or injustice.

The story we had been sold was that, for no good reason, Floyd was thrown to the ground by a brutal cop, Derek Chauvin, who then put his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes while Floyd pled that he could not breathe, choking him to death.

Based on this story, Derek Chauvin was fired and indicted for murder, and the three other cops who assisted him were fired and indicted for aiding and abetting murder.

Also based on this story, America has been convulsed by more than two months of race riots, which have killed dozens, injured countless others, and destroyed billions of dollars in property and countless livelihoods.

There were many facts that did not fit this story, however.

George Floyd’s autopsy revealed that he wasn’t suffocated. Instead, he died of heart failure. He was suffering from heart disease and COVID-19. He also had the opioid fentanyl in his system as well as methamphetamine. The medical examiner said these drugs contributed to this death. (He also had traces of cannabis.)

Beyond that, Floyd was apprehended before he could drive off, clearly intoxicated, after trying to pass a counterfeit bill. Should the police have allowed him to just drive away? Obviously not.
They had to do something to get Floyd out of his car and away from the public so he could not endanger himself or others.

The person who called the police reported that Floyd was acting strangely, which in all likelihood meant that he was intoxicated or mentally ill, thus not to be trifled with.

It turns out that Floyd had a long criminal record, including an armed robbery in which held a gun to the stomach of a pregnant woman. In short, George Floyd was a real piece of shit.

Moreover, putting a knee on an uncooperative suspect’s neck is an approved police control technique, so how could Chauvin be indicted for murder?

Finally, there was never any evidence that race played any role in Floyd’s death. He was not arrested because he was black, but because he committed a crime. He was not forcibly restrained because he was black, but because he was uncooperative. Two of the four officers were non-white. The claim that race had anything to do with Floyd’s death at all was simply a baseless assertion amplified and endlessly repeated by the media and BLM agitators.

But now we know that it was all a fraud. What does the police body camera footage reveal?

First of all, it reveals that George Floyd was dishonest, uncooperative, and acted deranged and scary.

Floyd claimed that he had just lost his mother (he hadn’t).
He claimed to be too claustrophobic to get in the police car, which was a lie because he was not too claustrophobic to sit in his own car.
He claimed twice that he was not on drugs, falsely.
He refused repeatedly to allow the police to cuff him.
He refused repeatedly to get in the police car.
He claimed multiple times that he could not breathe before he ended up on the ground with Chauvin’s knee on his neck. Obviously he was lying before that, so it made sense for Chauvin to disbelieve him when Floyd was on the ground. And, in any case, remember that the medical examiner said Floyd did not die of asphyxiation.

Second, the video reveals that the police dealt with Floyd with a level of patience and professionalism that I certainly could not have mustered. One cannot say that Chauvin lost his patience or lashed out at Floyd.

Ask yourself, dear reader, would you have been able to maintain your cool in the same situation? I know I would have snapped. I was thinking “Couldn’t we just arm police with tranquilizer darts to bring these beasts down?” This video gives me nothing but respect for the police who have to deal day in and day out with deranged criminals like George Floyd.

Was George Floyd a victim of injustice? No, he died because (1) he committed a crime, (2) refused to comply with the police, and (3) was so high on drugs that he was not up to the rigors of being forcibly arrested. If he hadn’t done any of those things, he — and a lot of other people — would still be alive today. George Floyd’s death was entirely his fault. It wasn’t murder. It was the predictable result of Floyd’s own bad character and bad choices. It was his just desserts.

George Floyd got justice.

Gonna let that simmer for a bit with the question: How would YOU have handled Flyod? (SECOND is probably thinking: "I would have just shot him.")

Floyd was in handcuffs. At that point I would have either rolled him onto his side or sat him up. When it comes to Floyd in particular, if he was having an acute heart failure episode, every single time he said he couldn't breathe might very well have been true, not just after being restrained but before as well.

In general, egregious behavior by police generically seems to happen when people are already restrained in cuffs. There should be a bright-line policy that once a person is in cuffs you shouldn't be tasing them, dog-piling them etc.

Another issue very generally is prone positioning. Once a person is in cuffs they shouldn't be allowed to be prone positioned, or worse, be restrained by the weight of multiple people in a prone position. It's a medically dangerous practice.

Finally, Chauvin became over-focused on the bystanders and failed to notice Floyd had stopped moving. IN GENERAL police should be given at least EMT training with a yearly refresher so they can be true first responders and be cognizant of when a medical situation has developed.

Floyd was in cuffs. And btw his struggling could have been due to the fact he was suffocating from heart failure and struggling to breathe.

Believe me, due to my stints in various hospitals but especially a very large county hospital I've seen big burly dudes on PCP safely restrained and brought in, by EMTs no less, not police. And Floyd was nothing even remotely like that. (That's something I'm sure you haven't seen.)

Once a person is in cuffs the situation is under far greater control and the person shouldn't be subjected to tasers, dog-piling, neck restraints, or prone positioning.

ETA: once cuffs are on in terms of getting out of restraints there's only 3 options I know of - break the cuffs (my since-retired cop friend tells me that's not likely), break your bones (I haven't seen it but I'm sure it's happened with strong people on PCP), or slip your cuffs for example by bringing your hands down and forward and squeezing your butt and legs through (a few very flexible small people have managed that).

My retired-cop friend told me about some of the games you can play if you're a cop. One is to put the cuffs on really, really tightly - to be excruciatingly painful. Another is to not use two sets of cuffs on people who are either really large or really inflexible, but to simply force their arms back and then restrain them there. The other is the 'rough ride'. All of these are allowable, because cops are given a lot of latitude.

That they should use them more on people of color is racism in action, but you wouldn't know that by looking at any one instance.

BTW I don't think it's a case of murder, but imo it's what I understand as criminally negligent homicide.

ETA: And btw I completely disagree to the point of being outraged with charges being filed against the cops who shot Rayshard Brooks. Brooks stole a taser AND POINTED IT AT COPS. And there's some video indication he might have fired it. (AFAIK when a taser it fired it releases a confetti of small pieces of paper with the taser SN on them, as evidence. If Brooks fired the taser there should have been evidence literally all over the place. But the media is pretty mum about whether or not that's true.)

That's it, racists. Blame the victim.

The idiots that post things like "If he didn't do x, he would still be alive" honestly feel like they're treating the police like a force of nature that has no moral leaning and will kill you without remorse if you make a mistake.

That's exactly the problem! You shouldn't have to take explicit security precautions to avoid being murdered by police. Black people are well aware that an encounter with police can quickly turn into a game of Simon Says, and if you don't do it just right, you're dead.

God bless the heroes of BLM for standing up to this fascism.

The standard and approved methods cause many deaths: U.S. Police kill civilians at a much higher rate than police in other wealthy countries.
www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/06/05/policekillings/

The chart above compares the annual rates of police killings in each country, accounting for differences in population size. This is the most apples-to-apples comparison we can make with this data. But the total number of deaths at the hands of police is also worth seeing in comparison with other countries.

Well, first of all, EMTs and paramedics are taught to keep personal safety first. You can't help someone if you're injured or dead, and you also become another victim and a load on the situation.

When coming up to the situation, generally the medics approach without lights and sirens.

In the interest of safety, the first thing is to look for weapons. If the person has a weapon you might try to convince them to give it up, but if you can't after a reasonable amount of time, or if the person is either psychotic or seems to have drug-induced agitation and seems unstable as to whether or not they'll use it, you do offload the problem onto police.

At the scene, medics tend to be non-confrontational. You try to elicit the person's cooperation. Hey look man, we're just here to help. Let us take a look at you and see what's wrong ... maybe get you some help. And the fact that there's no police car waiting to haul them away helps defuse the situation as well. They tend not to see an enemy. You explain what you're going to do, and why, and keep explaining as you go.

Medics are allowed to use physical and chemical restraints for medical reasons according to their written protocols. Once you've gained cooperation you can restrain the person to keep them and you safe.

The problem is that the police didn't see when an attempted arrest became a medical issue. If they'd been called for agitated behavior or intoxication, they might possibly have been more willing to turn it over to medics. But it segued from an arrest for trying to pass a phony 20 to dealing with a recalcitrant to dealing with someone on drugs to heart failure. They missed the exit ramp.

I think Floyd was ALREADY a medical situation when the police showed up. Paranoia is a symptom of Covid-19, which does affect the CNS.

The problem with police is that they're trained to deal with criminals who are more-or-ess fully functional, and the way they deal with that is to break resistance by shouting and threats.

But the police are often called to deal with people who are high, or psychotic, or having neurological or health issues or - in Floyd's case- all of the above, and shouted threats really don't help the person understand better.

I've seen a video- I can't remember where it was filmed, but it was an encounter with a man in a hotel hallway. The police were shouting multiple instructions and threats which -given the sound quality and my poor hearing, I'm not sure I would have understood But given that the police were shouting "Put your hands on the floor!" and "Put your hands up!" the victim was obviously confused and probably very drunk, but he was doing his best to comply with what he thought they were telling him to do. unfortunately the police saw resistance and danger instead of confusion and disabiity and it ended in blood and death. The victim, BTW. was white.

Now, the one good thing that the police did with Floyd is that they weren't shouting, and they were very clear what they wanted him to do, repeating it over and over. But given his reaction, I might have stepped back and said... "hey man, we're going to call the ambulance for you, just chill for a while, nothing's gonna happen."

The article that I quoted said "Couldn't we just supply the police with tranqilizer darts?" and I kinda wonder ... why not? Isn't that better than rubber bullets, neck restraints, handcuffs and tasers?

Floyd’s case isn’t about his resisting arrest; it’s about what happened after the cops got him under control.

This week, the Daily Mail managed to get its hands on some previously unreleased body-camera footage of George Floyd’s arrest. Some found that it changed their perception of the incident. Most notably, my former American Conservative colleague Rod Dreher wrote a lightning-rod blog post in which he contended that “George Floyd is dead today almost entirely because of George Floyd.”

The video does clarify some things, especially the precise degree to which Floyd resisted arrest. But I would urge anyone whose mind changed dramatically upon watching it to ask themselves: Why does it surprise you that Floyd resisted arrest? And why does it change your view of how the cops behaved in a completely different part of the encounter?

In reality, nothing in the video is all that unexpected, and nothing in it changes the fact that law-enforcement officers kept a handcuffed, obviously unwell man face down, with a knee on his neck, for about eight minutes, including two minutes after they failed to find a pulse. The second-degree-murder charge against Derek Chauvin is likely a stretch, as Andy McCarthy detailed back in June, but the other options available to the jury — third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter — remain entirely plausible.

The bottom line, I think, is that it’s going to be hard to acquit someone who knelt on a subdued suspect until the suspect apparently lost his pulse, and then kept kneeling for a little while longer. But the key questions hinge on the eight minutes we already knew about, not the eight additional minutes the Daily Mail uncovered.

Actually, the footage shows a lot that was unexpected because of how the Legacy Media portrayed it.

They've even duped me twice now. When the Covington incident happened, I said the kid looked like he was seething with hate under that smile. When the Floyd incident happened, I said that these were murderous cops.

It's not too hard to make people believe these things since we live in a world where racism still exists and where there are bad (sometimes bad and racist) cops. Take footage out of context and refuse to show any new footage that destroys the narrative that you painted originally and there you go.

The new video footage shows that racism wasn't at play here. At least it wasn't obvious if it was. These weren't some good 'ole boys straight out of Blazing Saddles. Half of the cops on the scene weren't even white.

And about that 8 or so minutes... Where is that footage? Where are the 8 minutes of footage where a guy had somebody on the ground while kneeling on their neck for 8 minutes before they stopped moving?

And about that "I can't breathe" shit... He wasn't choked. Ask anybody who's been choked before what it feels like. Ask them if they'd be able to say "I can't breathe" loud enough to be picked up on cell phone cameras across the street.

I assure you that you can't. Vocal cords don't work by telepathy.

May be stupid, but NOT RACIST.

I agree with SIX on that.

The problem is, the police reacted LIKE POLICE: they tried to impose their authority when the situation was a medical one, which they didn't recognize.

We expect cops to deal with assholes and criminals all the time. And there ARE really bad people out there; gangbangers like where our housekeeper lived who kidnapped her husband and made him take money out of the ATM at regular intervals, kidnapped her grandmother and stole her purse, and threatened her two daughters with rape. (This family was targeted bc one of the gang members wanted to live where THEY lived, and were trying to drive them out.) It was scary stuff.

But then when they run into someone who's high, or crazy, or sick, or all of the above, we expect them to take off their police hats and put on their EMT hats and get all empathetic. It's not possible; at least, not for a lot of people.

The police need to have an "out": someone who they can call to deal with the crazy, drunk, sick, high people. Like I said: maybe with a tranquilizer dart.

American police kill 3 times more often than police in any other country. That needs a better explanation than you are giving.
www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/06/05/policekillings/

It may never be racism why American police kill, but some killings make news:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Joe_Campos_Torres
The police were convicted of negligent homicide and received one year of probation and a $1 fine.

Why are George Floyd protests different? Before Floyd's killing, the highest estimate for any American protest -- the 2017 Women's March -- was 4.6 million. Polls indicate that, as of mid-June, as many as 21 million adults had attended a Black Lives Matter or police brutality protest.

That's not close enough to true. A closer approximation is that American police are careless with lives. Again, compare America with every other country on Earth and you will see what being careless means:
www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/06/05/policekillings/
Not just “a few bad apples”: U.S. police kill civilians at much higher rates than other countries

If you just look at which Americans get killed by police, you will see a very peculiar trend. American police get more and more careless about killing darker and darker citizens:
www.pnas.org/content/116/34/16793
Risk of being killed by police use of force in the United States by age, race–ethnicity, and sex
Among all groups, black men and boys face the highest lifetime risk of being killed by police. Our models predict that about 1 in 1,000 black men and boys will be killed by police over the life course (96 per 100,000). We predict that between 36 and 81 American Indian/Alaska Native men and boys per 100,000 will be killed by police over the life course. Latino men and boys have an estimated risk of being killed by police of about 53 per 100,000. Asian/Pacific Islander men and boys face a lifetime risk of between 9 and 23 per 100,000, while white men and boys face a lifetime risk of about 39 per 100,000.

Well, as KIKI pointed out, on a per capita basis, we AREN'T #1. And...

Maybe the reason why cops kill so many people per capita here is because we have more criminals, and more violent criminals, than any other developed nation

Might want to wonder why that is...

Does this mean the BLMball season will be suspended? Will they refuse to dunk, or Free Throw? Will tall white folk still be required to wear BLM gear?

SIX, ASSUMING that M$M is always wrong isn't being skeptical, it's just being reflexively oppositional. You know what they say about stopped watches, right? Well, even the M$M can stumble onto something once in a while.

I don't know why you're so weird about AIDS and SARS-Cov2. Is it viruses in general that you don't understand? Or do you just hate gays and old people?

Let's take a look at your (oft-stated) hatred of boomers, and let me ask you a question: WHY should people buy into a system that's just going to scrape them off at the end? Why should anyone work hard, raise a family, and save if they're going to be abandoned by the family that they raised and the society that they contributed to?

I can hear you right now blubbering But ... but... but that's not what they did! They made things easy for themselves! They ran away from the family so they could drink and do rewarding grownup things and left me to take care of my brothers!

I think that you still have mommy and daddy issues (especially mommy issues).

I grew up in what was, in retrospect, a fairly dysfunctional family. But life gave me a view of what they had been going thru, and until you try and do what they did I suggest you not whine too loudly about their job performance. Besides, what you blame "boomers" for wasn't their fault. THEY didn't design Social Security and Medicare, and THEY didn't promote global warming. Blaming "old people" for everything that's wrong is like blaming
"whites" for everything that's wrong.

Not gonna discuss this with you, just my $0.02.

Drunk? Drunk in public is illegal in most places, also known as public intoxication, disturbing the peace. Call the cops for illegl activity.

High on illicit drugs in pubic? That is illegal in most places. Call the cops.

Crazy? Acting Libtard is allowed in many places. It is only when combined with other, illegal activites when problems arise.

Sick? Then you shouldn't be committing felonies where you will lose your freedom to get better.

Unfortunately he didn't get the memo until after he showed the world who he was that the cops are not on board with his lunacy and will not comply.

Are you dense?

It's true that being drunk in public or drugging are illegal activities. But people who are drunk or on drugs or sick (neurologically or metabolically) or crazy don't behave like most people. You can't assume that they understood, or even heard, what you shouted. You can't assume that THEY'RE going to weigh the risks of doing something crazy. (That's why they call them crazy.) You can't assume that they're going to survive restraint. Therefore you can't handle them like "most people".

That's my point: It's impossible for most people to switch from "policing" mode to "EMT" mode. Police assume that a person not doing what they've been ordered to do is resistance, not lack of comprehension. So they ramp up the noise, which confuses the civilian even more.

Except that's not what it said.

It's a complex reality that doesn't sit well with your cartoon thinking. So I'll explain it by way of an analogy ... Sure the guy was old and frail. And he had balance problems. The fact that he was blind drunk didn't help. Neither did the banana peel underfoot. If he'd been at the top of the stairs by himself, it's entirely possible he would have died from that fall all on his own.

But you can't discount the fact that he was pushed.
