Barrett was not merely shoehorned into RBG's spot. Sotomayor has been salivating over that Circuit, so now she got it.

And Thomas kept GA.
Alito kept PA.
Barrett got WI, the Circuit where she served 3 Years as a judge.
Kavanaugh got MI.

So, I've illustrated it, but does anybody know exactly what that means though?

Though I'm grateful to have had the Civics course in HS and to have taken an American Government class in college, I believe the inner-workings of the Supreme Court were above the pay grade of the teachers.

Is that really how the Supreme Court decides if it sees cases or not then? It's just as grossly partisan as everything else?

EDIT:

Elana Kagen is sitting pretty on the West Coast representing states that make up 105 Electoral College votes. Meanwhile Alito gets 37. Breyer really gets the shaft with just 23.

I think they need to work out a new map.

I guess that all depends on what exactly this means in the first place.

I believe Alito has 89.

Prior to Election counting defiance, It was Alito who specifically ordered that all PA votes received after 3 November were to be segregated, and not comingled or counted with the other, lawfully valid ballots.
And so PA promptly defied his order.

Meaning his "territory" covers what adds up to 89 Electoral votes?

I'm only seeing PA (20), NJ (14), and DE (3) for Alito on the map, or 37.

Am I missing something?

Yeah. They were very prompt about it, from what I heard.

I also "heard" that once the mail in ballots were separated from whatever paperwork made them mail in ballots that they are no different than a standard ballot and cannot be separated once put together.

But I've never actually seen either of them, so I don't know how true that is.

Oh... I didn't notice he had the 5th District too.

37 from the 3rd. Then Texas (38), Louisianna (8), and Mississippi (6). 89 total.

89. You're right.

Breyer still gets the shaft though. Either that, or he's the laziest dude up there.

From what I've seen, he is just not competent. Somebody should introduce him to The Constitution. As a white male, he shot himself in the foot many times.

Yes, that is the standard procedure. That is why verification prior to merging/mixing is so important.

Just another reason like this all seems like one huge scam to me.

How hard is it in 2020 to put a different number on mail in ballots, or to alter a barcode accordingly?

The answer is that it's not hard in the least bit, meaning that it was a conscious and an intentional decision.

Just before midnight Wednesday, the nation got its first glimpse of how profoundly President Donald Trump had changed the Supreme Court.

Only months ago, Chief Justice John Roberts was at the peak of his power, holding the controlling vote in closely divided cases and almost never finding himself in dissent. But the arrival of Justice Amy Coney Barrett late last month, which put a staunch conservative in the seat formerly held by liberal mainstay Ruth Bader Ginsburg, meant that it was only a matter of time before the chief justice’s leadership would be tested.

On Wednesday, Barrett dealt the chief justice a body blow.

She cast the decisive vote in a 5-4 ruling that rejected restrictions on religious services in New York imposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to combat the coronavirus, shoving the chief justice into dissent with the court’s three remaining liberals. It was one of six opinions the court issued Wednesday.

The ruling was at odds with earlier ones in cases from California and Nevada issued before Ginsburg’s death in September. Those decisions upheld restrictions on church services by 5-4 votes, with Roberts in the majority.

The New York decision said that Cuomo’s strict virus limits — capping attendance at religious services at 10 people in “red zones” where risk was highest, and at 25 in slightly less dangerous “orange zones” — violated the First Amendment’s protection of the free exercise of religion.

Wednesday’s ruling could be a taste of things to come.

You're the same guy who says deaths from Covid-19 are unimportant compared to the economic impact from preventing the deaths. ( If $ > deaths then let 'em die. ) The new Supreme Court justice has not been as forthright as you are, 6ix, but this ruling, which contradicts Supreme Court rulings from last month, is pretty strong proof she also thinks preventing deaths from Covid-19 is just as unimportant as you do.

Feeling smug? You are making a variation on the typical poor white trash argument I have heard thousands of time over the last 68 years that you are morally/spiritually/practically superior to your betters. It's a cheap yet effective psychological defense against feeling inferior for being poor.

compare-to-others-2018-09-24

The house was bought with cash and is easily worth $100k to $120k right now, and I'm looking to get at least $160k for it by the time I'm done doing all of the work myself with my abundant free time. Maybe $200k if I put more effort into it and wait for good market timing. Car's paid for. Got a nice little nest egg so I don't have to worry about where food is coming from for many, many years even if I wasn't employed for a single day during that time...

These figures are Per Houshold, based off of the "head of household" and not Per Individual...

Median Net worth for 35-44 year olds in the country: $59,800

Median Net worth for "Some College" (any age) $66,100

Credit Score: 822

DTI: Zero Debt... Access to tons of credit. Cheap tax area. Bare-bones minimal monthly bills. No rent/mortgage.

Retirement Savings Score: Doesn't really matter, I could easily live off of only 70% of what they currently tell me that I'd get for SSI when I'm 62.

I'm easily 2.5 to 3.5 times above those figures. 4 when I have my house ready to sell. I'm right about the median for any education level combined with any age.

And all of that is a single dude household. Those above figures are mostly considering the net worth of at least two people. On top of that, it's also a dude that's only worked about 2.5 years in the last 9 years.

There is no metric where I would be considered poor.

And really... Who can put a price on all the free time in the world?

Income doesn't really mean shit when you're a genius with the money you already had.

I've been semi-retired since I was 32 years old.

I'll work on occasion whenever I feel the need to pad the nest egg. And only until somebody gives me enough shit that I get the pleasure of shoving the job straight up their ass until the next time.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

Well, Barrett has turned out to be quite useless.

She selected Clarence Thomas to swear her in, but then she distanced herself far from his genius during key judicial decisions.

Did she just pretend to be a Constitutionalist? An Originalist?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I see the democrats asked for, and the Supreme Court agreed to, remove the last 2 of Trump's immigration cases from the docket. That's too bad. I have an idea that they could have gone Trump's way, and would therefore have been important precedents. I suspect the democrats wanted them removed rather than take that chance.

And of course the mainstream GOP isn't going to keep those issues alive.

We will just have to put a pin in that until Trump is elected President again in 2024.
