I think 1kiki is talking about the Caltech/MIT Voting Technology Project. It wrote a report in 2013 that remains true:

More than half a century ago, one of the founders of modern political science, V.O. Key, wrote that “over most of the United States, the conduct of elections is the most neglected and primitive branch of our public administration.” Although Key wrote this in 1949, most observers of the 2000 Florida recount might conclude that his observations were still true. A goal of the VTP has been to improve elections through the scientific principles that are at the core of our institutions, so that the conduct of elections in the U.S. could become less neglected and primitive.

logy-Report.pdf

There is no way to fix this system as long as it is split up into 50 states, territories, P.R., D.C. and thousands of counties doing their own count whatever way the local politicians feel like doing it. It is the beauty in action of the American Constitution. Can’t fix that because it was perfect when George Washington signed it and shall always be perfect, forever and ever. But I guess Congress could pass a law to bribe the local politicians to change their ways and punish the politicians that won’t change primitive vote counting methods by Congress withholding money from going to that county.

I posted an article (twice, now) coauthored by the guy in charge of it.

Charles Stewart III is the Kenan Sahin Distinguished Professor of Political Science at MIT, the director of the MIT Election Data and Science Lab, and co-director of the Caltech/MIT Voting Technology Project. Follow him on Twitter @cstewartiii.

Voting Technology will remain primitive in thousands of counties until the U.S. Congress picks a method and points a gun at the heads of those counties to use the official voting technology or else Congress pulls the trigger and blows their brains out of the stubborn politicians who won't change.

Agreed. Other countries do it more efficiently, with no trouble.

Until it gets fixed, mail-in voting is and remains safe and trustworthy.

Voting - What Is, What Could Be (2001)
Our data show that between 4 and 6 million votes were lost in the 2000 election.
http://vote.caltech.edu/reports/1
Optically scanned paper and hand-counted paper ballots have consistently shown the best average performance. Scanners have the lowest rate of uncounted, unmarked, and spoiled ballots in presidential races and in Senate and gubernatorial races. Counties using optical scanning have averaged a residual vote rate of 1.5percent in presidential elections and 3.5 percent in Senate and gubernatorial elections over the past twelve years. Hand-counted paper has shown similarly low residual vote.
{I}n terms of one very basic requirement — minimizing the number of lost votes — electronic voting does not have a very good track record.
Paper systems have performed much better over the past dozen years.

The security of voting machines was the main topic of the fourth morning session. Three specific ideas proposed were: developing an optical scan system with a feature that shows what the optical scan is reading along with an optical scan confirmation screen; developing a system where a voter can pre-load their choices into a voting machine; and using the internet to “pre-vote” to study how close we can get to internet voting. Also, cryptographic auditing was discussed as a way to openly audit voting systems. The particular cryptographic system proposed provides a receipt with a tracking number that the voter can use to confirm online that their vote was cast. The hope is to include cryptographic auditing in the voting process, but not to change the voter experience. Lastly, techniques were discussed that can be used to improve the security, reliability, and transparency of voting machines.

Residual Votes Attributable to Technology: An Assessment of the Reliability of Existing Voting Technologies
{W}e find that in presidential elections, traditional paper ballots produce the lowest rates of uncounted votes (i.e., “residual votes”), followed by optically scanned ballots, mechanical lever machines, direct register electronic machines (DREs), and punch cards. In gubernatorial and senatorial races, paper, optical scan ballots, and DREs are significantly better in minimizing the residual vote rate than mechanical lever machines and punch cards. If all jurisdictions in the United States that used punch cards in 2000 had used optically scanned ballots instead, we estimate that approximately 500,000 more votes would have been attributed to presidential candidates nationwide.

Apparently, they pretty much decided to close the books on national elections across the US after that report. Maybe they got tired of spitting into the wind.

I see btw NONE of their recommendations have been addressed - especially not making the voting process auditable, or routinely using statistics (which I've been calling for) to examine the validity of the vote.

Movies teach us that villains, in the end, don’t have the option to refuse their comeuppance. They have to face their fate and eat crow. That’s what happens in “Back to the Future,” when the glowering bully Biff Tannen gets a taste of the pain he caused. That’s what happens in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” when Nurse Ratched’s sadistic piety comes back to haunt her. And it’s what happens, most spectacularly, in “The Wizard of Oz,” when the Wicked Witch of the West is destroyed before our eyes in a catharsis of long-finger-nailed rage. “Look what you’ve done!” she screams. “I’m melting, melting!” And then, with a touch of despair that can almost be called tragic, she says, “Oh, what a world, what a world”! She’s talking about a world that has taken away her power. She then crumples like a melted crayon, a humiliated mass of thwarted ambition.

That’s what happened to Donald Trump. He wasn’t simply defeated, given the boot by the American people. He got melted down. And that’s why he’ll never admit it. He’s holding the entire American democratic process hostage to prop up what’s left of his broken ego. There’s a lot of talk about how even though Trump lost, “Trumpism” is here to say. It will be standing on the sidelines, waiting in the wings, warming up for a comeback. But what does Donald Trump stand for, as a political figure, once you take away his power? He’ll be just another fulminating talk-radio host. And, of course, the cornerstone of his brand will now become the very notion that the presidency was stolen from him. He’ll make that the centerpiece of every rally, every Fox News appearance, every talk-radio hour he presides over. But it will all be Trump spinning his brokenness. The Trump faithful, the true believers — the cult — will tune in. But for most of America, Trump will simply sound like the sore loser he is. So let him spin away. It’s time to say goodnight to the bad guy.

'This is propaganda': Fox News' Maria Bartiromo slammed for 'softball' Trump interview

Trump repeated unverified claims that the election was "rigged," and told Bartiromo his complaints might last past the Dec. 14 vote of the Electoral College and even the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

"My mind will not change in six months," he said.

Though Bartiromo asked Trump to provide evidence "to enable you to prove this in court," some analysts took issue with her not calling him on already-disputed claims. Judges have shot down lawsuits and election challenges in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada and Georgia, citing a lack of "specific allegations and then proof."

"This was not hardball. It wasn't even softball. It was t-ball," CNN Reliable Sources anchor Brian Stelter said on air Sunday morning. CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy later called Bartiromo a "propagandist," likening her to conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones.

Journalist Yashar Ali, a contributor to New York Magazine and HuffPost, remarked on Twitter that the interview was "filled with so many lies and so much misinformation. Probably more than any interview during his presidency."

Biden picks ‘diverse’ cabinet of warmongers and Wall Street’s friends

President-elect Joe Biden’s first slate of cabinet choices this week was heralded as inclusive and diverse in the liberal press.

In reality they show that Biden is trying to turn back the clock to the pro-corporate “business as usual” politics of the Barack Obama years.

...

Obama’s administration saw a record number of deportations.

The shattering of hopes in Obama helped clear the way for the vile politics of Trump. So too did Obama's response to the financial crisis which transferred huge sums of money from workers to the banks and the multinationals.

Reinstalling so many of that era's leading figures will prepare the ground for a further right wing resurgence unless there is a strong left movement.

Biden is only a part of the way through naming his whole cabinet. He has confirmed that he is considering picking Republicans to fill spaces on his team.

But he won't need to add Republicans to make this a cabinet of warmongers and supporters of big business.

Ted fucking loves the Biden* picks so far.

According to Donald Trump, in a statement made to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” April 11, 2011, about the fake “birther controversy” of President Barack Obama—the opening salvo in Trump’s campaign of political disinformation—Obama’s “grandmother in Kenya said, ‘Oh, no, he was born in Kenya and I was there and I witnessed the birth.’ She’s on tape,” Trump went on. “I think that tape’s going to be produced fairly soon. Somebody is coming out with a book in two weeks, it will be very interesting.” There was no book, no tape.

According to Donald Trump, two weeks after losing the 2020 November 3rd election, “I won the election!” He had warned many times prior to the vote that the only way he would lose the election would be if it was rigged, and the only way he would win was if the election was fair, a remarkably trenchant conjuration of the Three Witches’ spell on Macbeth, “Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air.”

Corporate Media Begin to Acknowledge GOP Coup Attempt
https://fair.org/home/corporate-media-begin-to-acknowledge-gop-coup-at
tempt/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=reddit&utm_source=news

To be clear, although coverage has improved to more accurately describe what’s going on in the US, the media failure to report the facts much earlier is inexcusable. Considering that corporate media ran op-eds (e.g., The Week, 8/11/20; USA Today, 8/16/20), letters to the editor (e.g., Washington Post, 8/21/20), stating the undeniable fact that Trump has been trying to steal the election months in advance, in addition to reporting on Trump’s subversion efforts in real time, they cannot credibly feign ignorance.

However, while corporate media appear to have stopped downplaying Trump’s election theft efforts for now, they have also run cover for the Republican Party’s complicity in enabling and actively assisting Trump’s efforts, as Trump cannot steal the election on his own.

The New York Times report “Who’s Going to Tell Him? Republicans Shy From Asking Trump to Concede” (11/10/20) employed the language one would use to describe family members unsure how to confront an embarrassing relative, rather than a major political party enabling election theft with its silence. The lackadaisical report described how neither major factions of the Republican Party—Trump’s “most ardent followers” who defend him “at all costs,” or the “tenuous, strained alliance with the rest, who share his agenda but often cringe privately at his language and tactics”—are “particularly well suited for the chore of trying to persuade Mr. Trump” to “step aside,” or to “stop spreading claims about the integrity of the nation’s elections that are contrary to considerable evidence.”

At other times, corporate media articles like Axios’ “The Electoral College Play” (11/11/20) reported on the Republican Party’s coup attempt as if it were a mere competitive sports strategy:

As the weaknesses of President Trump’s legal cases to overturn Joe Biden’s win become clearer, Republicans are talking more about the Electoral College — hinting at an extreme last-chance way for Trump to cling to power.

What we’re watching: In this long-shot scenario, Trump and his team could try to block secretaries of state in contested states from certifying results. That could allow legislatures in those states to try to appoint new electors who favor Trump over Biden.

When Trump’s “most ardent followers” like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated in a press conference that “there will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration” in response to a question about whether the State Department is preparing to coordinate with an incoming Biden administration, corporate media didn’t report on Pompeo’s shocking remarks as if he was an accomplice to an attempt to overturn a democratic election:

There was only one fraud in the 2020 election
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/29/opinions/donald-trump-election-frau
d-failure-obeidallah/index.html

Donald Trump desperately wants you to believe the only reason Joe Biden won the 2020 election by so many votes was because it was the "most fraudulent election in history." Trump served up his latest variation of this fallacy on Fox Business on Sunday morning, saying "we have so much evidence" to support his claims but the judges "won't allow us" to submit it.

That's a lie. The truth is Trump's lawyers have had numerous opportunities to present the so-called evidence of voter fraud, but haven't. Why? Simple. There is no such evidence. Trump's own lawyers -- including Rudy Giuliani -- have repeatedly admitted in court cases from Arizona to Pennsylvania that they are not even alleging voter fraud in those lawsuits. The obvious reason being they can't prove the claims.

There's a difference between what a client can scream in public and what a lawyer can say to a judge. As a lawyer myself, I know how it's drilled into our heads from law school that you could be disbarred if you intentionally lie to a judge. We have a "special duty as officers of the court" to be truthful to the court.

Hence, Trump says one thing to the media and his lawyers tell a vastly different story to the courts.

Trump can keep repeating his claims the election was "rigged," "fake," a "hoax" ... yadda, yadda, yadda. After four-plus years of Trump, we all know his go-to buzzwords.

The truth is that Trump has been given his day in court to prove his case and he has failed -- over and over. Thanks to these lawsuits, it's clear that at this point the only fraud in the 2020 election is Donald Trump.

Did you read: "The 40 most utterly unhinged lines from Donald Trump's first post-election interview"? Here is the first thing Trump said:

1. "You have leaders of countries that call me, say, that's the most messed-up election we have ever seen."

Really? Leaders of foreign countries are calling Trump and saying that the 2020 election is "the most messed-up" one that they have seen? Who, you ask? Oh, Trump didn't name any names. Nobody said what Trump claims was said.

Eric Trump simply can't believe Joe Biden got 80 million votes

"Eric Trump
Nov 28
Does anyone believe that Biden got 15 million more votes than Obama in 2012? This from a candidate who would go days/weeks while hardly campaigning."

Yes, I do believe that, Eric. I also believe your father got 10 million more votes than he did in 2016, even though he basically killed 250,000 of us.

You see, a lot more people voted in 2020 than they did in 2016 and, more importantly, Donald J. Trump was the presidential equivalent of a gently used clown condom.

It’s really not a mystery, Earache.

It was a plebiscite. The good guys won. You have to leave, now, and good luck staying out of prison, you slimeball.

Looks like daddy never loved you at all. He's never loved anyone, other than himself. Your daddy is a nut job.

From the facts-don't-matter department:

What Hunting Bigfoot Taught a Republican Congressman about Misinformation,

Republican congressman Denver Riggleman was once a defense contractor for America's National Security Agency. But in 2004, he paid more than $5,000 to join an amateur expedition searching for Bigfoot. Not because he believed in the mythical ape-like creature said to live in the woods, according to the Washington Post, but "to indulge a lifelong fascination: Why do people — what kind of people — believe in Bigfoot?"

"Now in one of his last acts as a Republican congressman from Virginia, Riggleman is asking the same questions of QAnon supporters and President-elect Joe Biden deniers."

Months after his ouster by Rep.-elect Bob Good (R) in a contentious GOP convention, Riggleman has become one of the loudest voices in Congress warning of the infiltration of conspiracy theories into political discourse... To Riggleman, the book, "Bigfoot... It's Complicated," mirrors the way pockets of the country are falling into conspiracy wormholes — everything from extremist fringe groups such as QAnon and the "boogaloo" movement to President Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud. Like the Bigfoot hunters in the Olympic National Forest, they see what they want to see...

Bigfoot believers have plenty in common with political extremists on both the far right and the far left, Riggleman said, lambasting a political ecosystem where, oftentimes, "facts don't matter."

"They're all bat---- crazy. Right?" he said, not really joking. "All of them ascribe to a team mythology that might or might not be true. And they stay on that team regardless. And that is what's so dangerous about politics today. That's what I've been trying to say."

Riggleman also criticized political operatives "asking for donations to help in a mythological quest of things that can't be proven," arguing this shared mythology can turn into a grift.

"I saw it with Bigfoot. I'm seeing it with QAnon. It's about money. And sometimes crazy and money live in the same space."

In a recent Monmouth University survey, 77 percent of Trump backers said Joe Biden had won the presidential election because of fraud. Many of these same people think climate change is not real. Many of these same people believe they don’t need to listen to scientific experts on how to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

. . . Much of the Republican Party has become detached from reality. . . . Millions have come to detest those who populate the epistemic regime, who are so distant, who appear to have it so easy, who have such different values, who can be so condescending. Who use words like “epistemic”. . . .

People in this precarious state are going to demand stories that will both explain their distrust back to them and also enclose them within a safe community of believers. The evangelists of distrust, from Donald Trump to Alex Jones to the followers of QAnon, rose up to give them those stories and provide that community. . . .

For those awash in anxiety and alienation, who feel that everything is spinning out of control, conspiracy theories are extremely effective emotional tools. For those in low status groups, they provide a sense of superiority: I possess important information most people do not have. For those who feel powerless, they provide agency: I have the power to reject “experts” and expose hidden cabals. As Cass Sunstein of Harvard Law School points out, they provide liberation: If I imagine my foes are completely malevolent, then I can use any tactic I want.

Under Trump, the Republican identity is defined not by a set of policy beliefs but by a paranoid mind-set. . . . The internet is an ideal medium for untested information to get around traditional gatekeepers, but it is an accelerant of the paranoia, not its source. Distrust and precarity, caused by economic, cultural and spiritual threat, are the source.

What to do? You can’t argue people out of paranoia. If you try to point out factual errors, you only entrench false belief. The only solution is to reduce the distrust and anxiety that is the seedbed of this thinking. That can only be done first by contact, reducing the social chasm between the members of the epistemic regime and those who feel so alienated from it. And second, it can be done by policy, by making life more secure for those without a college degree.

Rebuilding trust is, obviously, the work of a generation.

Fckske - Thanks for posting this list. Nothing reads like a flailing desperate Trump tirade - madness. My favorite is #32:
"It was a Russia, Russia hoax. It was just pure hoax. It was a pure hoax and a very -- a very sad thing for the country."

Seriously??!?

He has 10 buzz words he's been rotating through for the last 4 years.

How ANYONE can listen to him and not think he's literally insane or just pretending so he can squeeze his idiot base (now to the tune of $170,000,000) is beyond me. I really do love the fact that his lack of concern over masks and his on-the-way-out-the-door-last-minute grifting is actually making his base poorer and deader. And it's all their choice. Freedom!

Come on, admit it Trumptards: you were taken by a conman. It's okay. He's a really accomplished conman!

And 2024? Fugget about it. He's getting mental health home therapy in about 6 months. The best that MAGA money can buy.

A witness in Trump ally Sidney Powell's lawsuits says the voting results in 'Edison County' indicate fraud. No such place exists.
https://www.businessinsider.com/sidney-powell-election-lawsuit-witness
-vote-problems-edison-county-2020-12?utm_source=reddit.com

In fact, there is no Edison County in the entire United States of America.

The typo-peppered lawsuit makes many of the same wildly conspiratorial arguments Powell made at a press conference that led to her ouster from Trump's legal team: That the now-dead Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez used voting machines to manipulate election results in his own country, and the very same machines are now being used to manipulate 2020 election results. There's no evidence of the claim, and the companies named in Powell's lawsuits have debunked the arguments made in her lawsuits.

In the affidavit, Keshavarz-Nia says he has not analyzed any of the voting machines used in the 2020 election but argued there's "evidence of fraud" based on his analysis of election data.

Much of that data is simply false or based on a misunderstanding of how election data is reported.

Nobody believes you dude. You're the biggest whiner on the board, save Nilbog.

Meanwhile, I've all but used FFF.NET as a diary for the highs and EXTREME lows I've gone through over the years. (And I've never deleted a single post. Just ask Ted... whenever I really get under his skin he goes and digs another one up ).

I have no reason to start lying now. What would be the ROI for me to do that on a website that only 8 people regularly visit anymore?

What is my end game?

If you don't have any plausible answers to those questions and as to why I would even have such motivations, you're just going to have to admit that I've got it figured out while you're still floundering in misery yourself.

And there's no tears here buddy. If (and more likely WHEN) the Establishment wins and Biden* manages to be OUR next President, it's not going to negatively impact anything in my life. I'm completely insulated from such outside occurrences, save for some catastrophic event that leaves every single one of us up shit's creek without a paddle.

I'm already over it. I have been for weeks now.

But one of these days, when you turn on your old buddies here because they're Pro-Biden* and the new NeoLiberal regime change and they kick you to the curb, you're going to realize that it was You who was going to lose in the 2020 election either way it went.

In any case... Please do try not to lose your mind when you continue to see the people that Biden* is putting back into power. This is exactly what you should have expected was going to happen when you voted for him. Ted sure did. And it comes as ZERO surprise to me.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)
