Yanno, SECONDRATE, you're constantly going on about how pro-Trumpers make such poor life choices that they're constantly getting into trouble. So let me tell you a true story about someone that we got to know quite well, because we employed her for over ten years.

This woman came to interview as caregiver for our daughter. She met the minimum qualifications (citizen, spoke English, some medical-care experience, had a car and a license) but not much else. But we hired her, not because she was the best choice but because she was desperate for work; we got the impression that she and her two daughters (by two different men) were living out of her car at the time.

Over the years we got to know her rather well. We learned that she and her siblings wereoften taken care of by their aunt, who ignored/tolerated the fact that the girls were being sexually abused by aunt's boyfriend. This aunt used to throw popcorn on the floor and make the kids fight for it "like dogs".

Over the years, we saw her make one stupid decision after another. Buying her kids leather jackets (which they would soon outgrow) and laptops (which were very expensive at that time.)

Probably the biggest mistake she made was marrying a guy who was charming (in an oily kind of way) and intelligent and who COULD do a lot of things but took drugs instead.

Once, the day before Thanksgiving, her girls' school called up bc she hadn't picked them up. So we did. As it turned out, according to our employee, she had loaned out her driver's license and car to her sister (who had had HER license taken away for multiple DUI.) The story goes, her sister had collected a moving violation in our employee's car and with her driver's license, and neglected to tell our employee. So the summons turned into a warrant, and our employee was picked up by the cops, resisted arrest (bad idea) and broke a cop's thumb, so they tossed her ass in jail over the weekend (which happened to be a long Thanksgiving weekend) and we wound up having to take care of her stressed-out young girls over the long weekend.

Another time, her husband was spending the rent money up his nose, which she didn't know about until they were all evicted for non-payment. She and her girls wound up living with us for a few months, rent free, while she saved up enugh money to rent a place of her own.

She bought a used car ... a Mercedes ... for a price that was too good to be true, despite the lack of reliability and cost of repair, bc she wanted a status car. But when it finally broke for good, it turned out that it had been a junker and somebody had "fixed" it by putting a different year head on the engine which didn't entirely work, and the cost of repair (essentially a new engine) was unaffordable.

We forgave her the few times she got drunk and fell asleep and failed to pick up our daughter from school. We even offered to be guardians for her daughters so that they could continue to go to the school in our decent school district.

We thought it was a terrible idea that she went back to her husband, and urged her to stay with us longer so she could build up more savings. But she went back to him. (This was the guy who was later falsely accused of murder.)

But we finally had to fire her because her husband apparently owed his drug dealers a lot of money, had been beaten up, and she was allowing him to sleep in her car in front of our house. At that point, we said "Sorry, but you can't be bringing that kind of trouble to our home", so we gave her a generous severance and showed her the door. Meanwhile, we had to scramble to find a replacement.

Sometime later, one of her daughers, who LOOKED like she was trying to escape the family, came to us for help. She had gotten a job, an a car, but the car had gotten stolen. It was recovered, but trashed (among other things filled with ater and left to rot) and she needed money for repairs and a loaner. So we lent her the money, but after a few repayments the money stopped coming.

I learned later that she had gotten a job alongside her aunt as a medical transcriber, and her aunt had apparently turned her on to drugs.

Many years later, as part of some 12-step program, the daugher DID come back to apologize. But she never di pay us back.

The whole family was clusterfucked. They preyed on each other mercilesslyand made one stupid decision after another. No wonder generation after generation was fucked up.

Since they were black, and nominal Democrats, I think it's safe to say they weren't pro-Trump.

Without thinking about it much, I wondered about the following: Sloppy Seconds proclaims to be around Houston, TX. Signym seems to be around SoCal, not sure what County.
SoCal is a wasteland of Libtards wallowing in the quicksand of their delusional utopia, and TX is a bit more sensible, rational.
So are the Signym/Second stories mirror contrasts of each other?

To hear SECONDRATE tell it, TX is full Trumptard morons who fuck up their lives

SoCal (LA County) is full of non-Trumptard morons who ALSO fuck up their lives.

This is but one of several stories I could post about people that we hired, or people that we worked with, who made complete hash of their lives. NONE of them Trump supporters! But they were all ready with their hand out for big daddy government to fix their bad judgment with "free money".

Not to make this too complicated for you to understand, Signym, but most of humanity (not all!) are cowards, fools, goof-offs, liars, nincompoops -- a whole long list of shortcomings that could be affixed to unwise people who let their emotions run their lives. The first on the list: coward. It is probably impossible to find someone who is provably a coward all the time, because we are not in danger all the time, so many people think of themselves as brave. But most people fail when courage is needed. Not easy to find someone who is a liar all the time, so many people think of themselves as truthful. But most people will be a liar when they really, really, really should not.

In this respect, Trumptards are extra-special, in my opinion, by all of them being defective and unwise people with a twist -- they can't stop talking and believing how superior they are, which is especially peculiar when there are years of evidence to show they are not the exemplary people they claim to be. Could you get a Trumptard to look back at all their personal failures and perhaps lower their high opinion of themselves? No more likely than a Trumptard looking coldly at Trump and recognizing he is a fat lying sack of shit who should be investigated for tax evasion and deserved to be declared guilty during his second impeachment.

I didn't read any more because I figure if you can't see THAT, which is obvious in your rants, then you have no insight and nothing that you post on the topic is worth reading. Except maybe as an example of extreme virtue-signalling. But I've already read too many of those.

Complaints about virtue-signalling always amuse me because of the people who do the complaining are mediocre people, very plain and ordinary, without notable virtues, but definitely puffed up to twice normal size with pride in themselves and their homes and their accomplishments.

Complaining about virtue-signalling is typical with Trumptards who frequently claim superiority for themselves without having to be actually superior. Or even average. Trump is the perfect example of that, but he didn't start it.

Before and during the Civil War, the Confederates claimed they were a superior culture to the Yankees in all ways: morally, spiritually, militarily, etc. The Confederates could point to how magnanimously they had raised up primitives from Africa by Christianizing them. Gave the Africans good jobs, too!

Jumping forward a hundred years in Texas to 1965, the people whose children became Trumptards were STILL bragging about how superior they were to Yankees. I could remember this bragging very clearly from my teenage years. It amused me that people with little virtue (bitter, stingy, mean-spirited, dishonest lower middle class) imagined themselves so superior. This was 1965, by the way, when they had had 20 good years to raise themselves higher, but they didn't because they are the kind of mediocre people who plateaued in their youth.

Another 50 years passed since 1965, years when they weren't appreciated for how outstanding they are. The result? They vote for Trump. Twice. If the Federal government does not appreciate how these people are the very foundation of America, well these Trumptards will once again show how angry they can get at not being treated like the superior people they are, puffed with pride in themselves for no reason.

Tell me, did Trump win?

I don't know what you actually believe (I don't know what Trump actually believes, either) but I do know what Trump says he believes: “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!,” former President Donald Trump said in a statement released Monday morning, the latest in a series of similar remarks – many focused on the laughable “recount” of votes happening in Arizona – aimed at continuing to undermine the 2020 election.

I am certain Signym and 6ix deliberately undermined the election, but I don't know who you actually think won. On just that one fact, 70% of Trumptards are crazy:

In a CNN poll conducted in late April, 70% of Republicans said they did not believe that “Joe Biden legitimately won enough votes to win the presidency.” Seven in 10 Republicans said that. Less than a quarter (23%) said Biden won fair and square. If the 23% were asked other questions, I am pretty sure we'd discover they (except for those in the richest 1% of Americans) are as crazy and stupid as the 70%. I have said many time: being crazy and stupid makes it difficult to stay in the middle class. Unending difficulties explain nearly everything about Trumptards.

You fixed nothing, but did Trump win? If you think he did, or just say he did, but in your heart you know he lost, you are one of the 70% of Trumptards who are crazy. How crazy are you, Trumptard?

If you haven't yet received the public service announcement sent out to all Americans: Being crazy causes difficulties remaining in the middle class.

Historic examples were the Confederates. They thought they were doing great for years, but then their craziness finally caught up with them. Their standard of living fell. On a per capita basis, the costs to the Northern population were about $139 – or just slightly less than a year’s per capita GDP the income of the United States economy in 1860. The per capita burden on Southerners was almost three times that amount. If Trumptards keep seeking to take control of America, expect to be eventually, not immediately, seriously hurt by your crazy goal.

6ix said Trump won. What do you believe? You posted many times Biden*. From the asterisk I think I know the truth about you, but I can't be sure. One thing I am sure is that all Texas Trumptards are crazy and stupid, which causes the endless troubles they have at work and at home, difficulties that sane people can solve, but crazy people can never. Trumptards really need a savior. It could be Jesus and/or Trump, or maybe little lying Ted Cruz, but helpless Trumptards need someone and they can't expect more than the minimum from other Trumptards.

The answer is, I don't know. There was enough room for cheating (esp with mail-in ballots), and enough anomalies in the vote count, to raise serious questions. Questions which have not been answered with evidence.

Again, like 1kiki, you disbelieve that Trump lost. Then you have to display your superiority complex. That gives you two points for extra crazy.

Ohio Republican Rep. Anthony Gonzalez hasn’t been in Washington long, but he’s been there long enough to understand his party is rotting from the inside out.

Asked by The Hill newspaper about efforts to remove Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney from Republican Party leadership because of her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump, here’s what Gonzalez said:

“If a prerequisite for leading our conference is continuing to lie to our voters, then Liz is not the best fit. Liz isn’t going to lie to people. Liz is going to say what she believes. She’s going to stand on principle. And if that’s going to be distracting for folks, she’s not the best fit. I wish that weren’t the case.”

Uh, wow.

Just to reiterate: This is a REPUBLICAN member of Congress elected in 2018 in the heart of the Trump era who is saying publicly that many in his party continue to lie to voters, while Cheney does not.

(Worth noting: Gonzalez and Cheney were two of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in inciting the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.)

Now, Gonzalez didn’t make clear what he believes Republicans are lying about, but it’s pretty obvious that he’s talking about the Big Lie – the one Trump and his allies are pushing that the 2020 election was somehow fraudulent or stolen despite no proof or even evidence to back up that claim.

“The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!” said that former President in a statement on Monday morning – apropos of, seemingly, nothing.

Again, and more slowly this time so maybe you'll get it,I try not to "believe" anything. My thoughts about the election are like being an agnostic, as opposed to being an atheist. To an atheist, god doesn't exist. To an agnostic, whether god exists or not is an open question

I know it's a fine distinction, one that's possibly beyond your grasp.

However, unlike "god", the validity of the vote CAN be examined. Hopefully, all of the materials- ballots, envelopes, vote counting machines etc - have been locked away and not tampered with or discarded.

Well! If they're REPUBLICANS, OF COURSE I'll believe that they say!!

NOT.

Being Republican doesn't make them more credible, IMHO, but their vote to impeach certainly chipped a lot that of that away. Unlike possibly you and them, I listened to Trump's entire speech, one in which the words "peacefully" and "patriotically" were not edited out. There was LESS incitement in Trump's speech than in Maxine Waters', who urged BLM protesters known to be violent to be "more confrontational" and who in the past told anti-Trumpers

Quote:

“I want to tell you, these members of his cabinet who remain and try to defend him, they won’t be able to go to a restaurant, they won’t be able to stop at a gas station, they’re not going to be able to shop at a department store,” the proud liberal fascist explained.

I know it's a fine distinction, one that's possibly beyond your grasp.

However, unlike "god", the validity of the vote CAN be examined. Hopefully, all of the materials- ballots, envelopes, vote counting machines etc - have been locked away and not tampered with or discarded.

Signym, Tucker Carlson did it much better than you, without calling on "god" as in your primitive version of epistemology, but Tucker has a writing staff scripting smooth and convincing lies targeting angry Trumptards:

I get a good laugh when Trumptards accuse me of being a sociopath. You are aware that Trump has been diagnosed as insane, right? Or is that "fake" news to you? Ha-ha!

There are 39,000,000 articles, books, movies about an insane Trump at www.google.com/search?q=Trump+insane

Some of Trump's crazy rubbed off on all Trumptards I know. For the ones I work with, their performance has declined precipitously since November 2020. I don't think their minds are focused on what is in front of them. Their attention is mostly on dreams shattered by their tragic loss in the family and their hopes of revenge against the Democrats who a turning American into a "communist" country (sometime they use the milder alternative term "socialist" country) but either way the Trumptards are crazy with dreams of revenge. I'm not worried; when the Republicans take back the Federal government, it will only make me richer by lower my taxes.

What attracts people to Trump? Two major emotional drives: narcissistic symbiosis and shared psychosis. Thanks for sharing, Signym.

Narcissistic symbiosis refers to the developmental wounds that make the leader-follower relationship magnetically attractive. The leader, hungry for adulation to compensate for an inner lack of self-worth, projects grandiose omnipotence — while the followers, rendered needy by societal stress or developmental injury, yearn for a parental figure.

Shared psychosis — which is also called “folie à millions” [“madness for millions”] when occurring at the national level or “induced delusions” — refers to the infectiousness of severe symptoms that goes beyond ordinary group psychology. When a highly symptomatic individual is placed in an influential position, the person’s symptoms can spread through the population through emotional bonds, heightening existing pathologies and inducing delusions, paranoia and propensity for violence — even in previously healthy individuals. The treatment is removal of exposure.

They got smart and took the advice of an expert:

Do you have any advice for people who do not support Trump but have supporters of him or “mini-Trumps” in their lives?

When the mind is hijacked for the benefit of the abuser, it becomes no longer a matter of presenting facts or appealing to logic. Removing Trump from power and influence will be healing in itself. But, I advise, first, not to confront his supporters’ beliefs, for it will only rouse resistance. Second, persuasion should not be the goal but change of the circumstance that led to their faulty beliefs. Third, one should maintain one’s own bearing and mental health, because people who harbor delusional narratives tend to bulldoze over reality in their attempt to deny that their own narrative is false. As for mini-Trumps, it is important, above all, to set firm boundaries, to limit contact or even to leave the relationship, if possible. Because I specialize in treating violent individuals, I always believe there is something that can be done to treat them, but they seldom present for treatment unless forced.

Do you really think ROOMBA was banned? Why would Haken let ROOMBA go on and on encouraging people to kill themselves, and then (rather arbitraily, it seems) suddenly boot him from the website?

I think only one person was banned, and that was FREM. Even PIRATENEWS was allowed to spam the board endlessly with his pastiches of conspiracy theories intercut with his personal stories of being a mind-altered sex slave.

I really wish that people would have been able to reform themselves instead of posting hate speech and lies. Then we might have had decent conversations.

*****

Yanno, the funny thing is that SECONDRATE still hasn't figured out criticizing the endless litany of lies about Trump, and "not" climbing onboard his (or anyone else's) crazy-train of hate, does NOT mean being a "Trump supporter".

I had all kinds of criticisms of Trump including his budgets, policies towards Israeland Iran, response to Covid-19, inability to control his own administration, and apparent crippling adult ADHD. On some big things (immigration, reindustrialization/China as an economic threat, troop withdrawal, balanced approach to Russia) I think he had the right impulses, but he was never able to get traction on any of that.

Not friends. Not anybody. Just Firefly related ephemera attached to tags WishIMay and ReaverFan
http://fireflyfans.net/profileshow.aspx?u=41624
http://fireflyfans.net/profileshow.aspx?u=46760

I hadn't noticed that WishIMay was gone. Or Reaverfan. But it is all part of nature for manufactured things to slow down, stop, rust away.

You do realize that everything built eventual falls into ruins, don't you? Buildings are abandoned. Graveyards stop being mowed when the last living relative loses interest. Firefly is headed in that direction. Even political parties eventually die, and the corpses get covered with weeds, along with all the deceased partisans:

The Republican Party is the new American Communist Party: Pogo’s Revenge

The Republican Party has positioned itself to run against the Communist Party ever since the Russian Revolution in October, 1917. Never mind that there were never any American Communists to speak of – party membership peaked at 75,000 in the late 1940s. Republicans managed to find “Reds” everywhere, maybe even hiding right under your own bed. Better vote Republican, then, if you don’t want a Commie as secret roommate. One of their dirty tricks was to paint anyone who questioned the reign of Capital as a Communist. Tricky Dick Nixon got his start in Congress running in San Francisco against the Industrial Workers of the World union, or Wobblies, as fifth columnists for the Moscow Politburo (they weren’t). How delicious that on becoming president, Nixon immediately began wooing Communist China.

So it is ironic from a twentieth century point of view that Republican-leaning states are now called “Red States,” after an election map used on one of the networks in the early zeroes of this century. A “Red” had been the dirtiest word in the GOP playbook.

Even more ironic is how the US Republican Party has converged with the typical Communist Party, with regard to political tactics and ideological rigidity.

Walt Kelly was the illustrator and writer of the popular “Pogo” comic strip in 1948 to 1973. In 1970 he created an Earth Day poster in which he had Pogo say, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

The Republican Party could say the same, of its old nemesis, the Communist Party.

It may be objected that the Republican Party backs the business classes, whereas the Communist Party is an organ of the working class. But actually, the Chinese Communist Party under Deng Xiao Peng in the 1980s swung around and declared itself the champion of all productive economic forces in society, including the business classes or bourgeoisie. China now has nearly as many billionaires as the United States.

Even if they champion different sections of society, however, their similarity now lies in their technologies of control.

The Communist Party had a “party line” and questioning it led to expulsion or worse. In 1929 several major leaders of the Communist Party USA were expelled for favoring the heretical lines of Trotsky or Bukharin versus that of Joseph Stalin

The Communist Party had its own scientists, and some of them were both looney as the day is long and extremely powerful. Trofim Lysenko rejected genetics in biology, and Sam Kean at the Atlantic argued that he killed millions with his phony science of agriculture. Under Stalin, you weren’t allowed to contradict him.

Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida has never accepted science. He just demanded an end to pandemic mitigation measures, even though only a third of the population is vaccinated. He has prohibited cities and councils from mandating masks or social distancing. Of course, he is killing people, just as Lysenko did. GOP obstruction of measures to fight climate change is even more deadly, and just as Lysenko-like.

The twentieth century Communist Parties used to have pro forma “elections,” but there was a rule: the Communist Party never loses, and any suggestion that it did lose was a form of treason. Not only did the Communist Party have to win, but a proper Stalinist had to win in the Soviet bloc. So when Alexander Dubcek, a Slovak reformer, was chosen as First Secretary of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in January, 1968, General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev organized the Warsaw Pact nations to invade and crush the “Prague Spring.” Dubcek was considered a Communist in Name Only (I guess that would be CINO), sort of like Liz Cheney is considered nowadays a Republican in Name Only (RINO).

Under Brezhnev there was a “fusion” of state and corporate interests. While Trump’s corporatism is different, there is still a form of fusion. Exxon-Mobil got the secretary of state slot for a while. Most of Trump’s cabinet members were multi-millionaires and many were former CEOs. Steve Mnuchin, who was sued for ‘asset-stripping’ at Sears and accused of shady foreclosures as CEO at the OneWest Bank, got the Treasury slot. Defense Contractor Raytheon placed its former lobbyist, Mark Esper, as secretary of defense.

More recently, GOP poobahs Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz have threatened the corporations if they dare speak out against Republican voter suppression laws. That is a violation of the implicit social contract, where the corporations fund the party but the party decides electoral policy, not the corporations.

In today’s Republican Party, it is also not allowed to lose an election. The Arizona GOP, some of whom were Capitol insurrectionists, is carrying out yet another “audit” of the 2020 presidential vote. The GOP officials who certified Mr. Biden’s win in several states have been rebuked by their party, and Republican-controlled state legislatures have passed laws intended to allow the party to determine certification in 2024.

Mitt Romney was roundly booed and narrowly escaped censure at meeting of the Utah Republican Party for admitting that Trump lost the election and for voting to impeach him for inciting the insurrection. Liz Cheney, normally to the right of Genghis Khan, is being denounced as a socialist and there are those who want to remove her as the third highest Republican leader in the House or even expel her entirely. Her crimes? The same as Romney.

Another irony: The Maoists insisted back in the 1960s on following the little red book or “political correctness.” Left of center American youth picked up the phrase as a joke in the 1970s and 1980s, sardonically accusing friends of not being “politically correct.” Republicans don’t seem to have a sense of humor, and they picked up the phrase as a cudgel against Democrats, accusing them of being ideologically repressive and demanding “political correctness.” But surely the attacks on Romney and Cheney are precisely for their lack of political correctness in the Trumpian party, only now in the old Maoist sense.

So we know how the 2024 Republican Convention should open: “A Red salute, comrades!”

Why did you like Firefly? Was it Mal? He is always running his mouth rather than running his business. That's why he is poor and struggling. He starts fights that gain nothing. Even when he wins, temporarily, he is poorer for it. He's like the ultimate Trumptard. The comics are a guide -- all the different authors who worked on the various stories see Mal fad away. He will be in conflict or in hiding until he dies. Never at peace. Never find a purpose. Kind of like Trumptards who, in my experience, live foolishly and die in vain. Conflict, strife, disillusionment, death. Not much story. Not uplifting and no moral.

The last lines in the very first script written sums up Mal.

MAL: We're still flying.

SIMON: That's not much.

Mal answers, almost to himself:

MAL: It's enough.

SECOND: It's not.

6ix, you should check out the free Firefly comics: https://getcomics.info/?s=firefly

The writers have gotten the story all the way to Firefly #28 and it is obvious they are having a problem knowing what to do with Mal in those stories. If poor old Mal would get a major goal in life it would be easier for the writers, but to stay true to Mal's character, his comic book version has to drift aimlessly through life, concentrating only on surviving. I wish the writers could give Mal a specific goal bigger than survival. I wish Trump could give Trumptards a specific goal bigger than survival.

Although the free comics are only at Firefly #27, the paid comics are at #28.

https://www.comixology.com/Firefly-28/digital-comic/929808

In Firefly #28, because of Mal's fundamental aimlessness, the writers had to add a Stargate to the comic in order to keep it going somewhere. By the way, a Stargate is a piece of technology that allows Serenity and Mal to go anywhere the writers imagine. I know Mal won't be happy where the writers sent him and, after about 6 issues, he plus Serenity will soon be coming back because there is another series of comics (Firefly: Brand New 'Verse #1) that jump forward 20 years into future. The crew of Serenity keeps on smuggling and never gets a higher aim than survival, which is exactly the low level goal that Trumptards can't rise above to something, anything, greater. The "Make America Great Again" goal involves doing nothing more than surviving and keeping Trump President, the guy who had no future planned while he was in office. See the aimless plan that was the GOP 2020 platform:

A page from Firefly #27. Bearded Mal is old, cranky and alone, with no plans beyond survival:

If I were Mal, I'd have Kaylee teach me how to work on the ship.

I'm not Mal. I'm boobless Kaylee.

I have imagined a story line for the Firefly comics that gives Mal a real purpose: he is the Uber driver for River, Kaylee and Inara.

There is a Corporation owned by the richest person in the 'Verse who intends to send millions of people to Earth. Unfortunately, the Alliance sees Earth as its property. The Alliance prefers either that the ships never leave or the starships leave full of citizens only loyal to the Alliance. River and Kaylee, maybe Inara, are part of a black ops run by the Corporation (not Blue Sun) to stop the Alliance from slowing the starship shipbuilding.

River and Kaylee never really let Mal know who they work for. In his own way, Mal is as stubborn a blockhead as any Alliance Prime Minister. Mal wouldn't like that the "Elon Musk" of the 26th Century has two employees, maybe three counting Inara, with dual loyalties on Serenity. Once in a while, Mal gets involved in River, Kaylee, and Inara's side adventures, but Mal never really understands the most important thing happening on his ship -- getting an expedition to Earth. I think that's a better idea than Mal's continuing war on the Alliance in the comics.

There is one. It's called Make America Great Again. As opposed to the goals of the top 1%: let me scavenge off the corpse of the United States and feast off the blood ofit's people.

It's hard to imagine that there's anyone as fucked in the head as you, SECONDRATE. But every day you provide new and even fresher examples of how you can ignore the obvious and turn your brain into a pretzel.
