6ix, there is NO contingency plan designed by government to keep the natural gas flowing. Never has there been a government plan, yet gas does keep flowing, but only to keep increasing the wealth of the producers. Never do natural gas producers keep the gas flowing for the comfort of the buyers in winter. The story of industry has always been about what is best for increasing the wealth of the sellers. For some psychological reason, the buyers think the government is in charge of the natural gas industry, but it is not. The industry is in charge.

The natural gas industry sets its prices, not the government nor the buyers. The industry decides how much it will produce, not the government nor the buyers. The arrangement is very simple, but most people outside the industry are completely confused about who makes what decisions.

The natural gas industry loves the fact that buyers don't understand the industry. It makes it so much easier to get wealthy.

If the government had contingency plans to keep natural gas flowing at predictable and low price, the natural gas industry would call it Communism. Most Americans would agree it is Communism. Because they are so easy for the industry to fool, most American buyers of natural gas deserve to pay too much for their natural gas. The industry is perfectly happy when buyers pay too much.
