During the Holocaust, there were very few Germans obediently taking orders to kill Jews and Gypsies. On the other hand, nearly every German and Italian was pleased that Jews and Gypsies were mysteriously vanishing to who knows where. Germans and Italians did not care to know more about where. The Holocaust is over, but the average European of today would not be concerned if their racial inferiors mysteriously vanished to who knows where.

How many Germans worked at Auschwitz? Various estimates indicate that the Auschwitz Concentration Camp SS garrison numbered 700 in 1941, about 2 thousand in June 1942, about 3 thousand in April 1944, and about 3,300 SS men and female overseers in August 1944. The peak figure came in mid-January 1945, in connection with the final evacuation of the camp, when there were 4,480 SS men and 71 female SS supervisors there. Throughout the entire period that the camp was in existence, a total of some 8,000 to 8,200 SS men and some 200 female guards served in the garrison. The other 80 million Germans didn’t obediently kill prisoners and didn’t care about what happened to prisoners.

Here is the key quote, which uses the word "understood": A generation of conformists has been created as never in our history. This is more like Nazi Germany, or, for that matter, communist China, than we would like to admit. I’m not implying these mass conformists would accept concentration camps, not at this point anyway, but they did allow their children to be vaccinated with a compound whose eventual results are barely, if at all, understood.

Did you notice the word understood? That article misunderstood why the Holocaust could move smoothly forward with only a few thousand Germans (out of 80 million) actually knowing/participating obediently in the killings. The article was written by a novelist who was just being a butt-head deliberately misunderstanding everything in order to make a false rhetorical point that Vaccination is the Holocaust.

Simon experienced a political transformation in which he felt alienated from what he saw as the excesses of the Left after the realities of the September 11 attacks affected him. He jokes, "I may be the first American writer who was profiled both by Mother Jones and National Review." I haven't checked out whether or not Simon went crazy and demanded Bush Kill All Muslims, but he probably did.
