Like I'm supposed to believe the Davos crowd? Well, a billion flies eat shit. And Zeihan isn't even a decision-maker. Why do you think he's talking to community colleges and small audiences like ECC (Engineering Construction Contractors) and BEC (Fintech) and shopping his talks to every YouTuber who will interview him. He's a lightweight who grabs random factoids and bogus stats and entertaining quips and ties it all off with click-bait headlines.

I posted that the USA needs to reindustrialize. YOU posted that steel production was going to take off in the USA. I posted a chart that shows that SO FAR, investment in ANY basic production aside from chip fabs is NOT increasing, and it seems steel is so low it doesn't even make the chart. Are you saying that the purchase of US Steel by Nippon Steel is part of that skyrocketing re-industrialization that you expect? If not, what are you trying to to say?

Not so Nippon Steel can build a totally automated steel mill close to the raw resources, sell cheap steel abroad, and ... as SIX said ... take the profit.

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Quote: Originally posted by THG: Who knows... Toyota CEO: "This NEW Engine Will Destroy The Entire EV Industry! Uh.... This is like pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. The problem with the concept is that you have to pump more energy into breaking water apart into oxygen and hydrogen that can be recovered by recombining them. In a perfect world, the amount of energy going into one process is exactly the same as the energy being released, which means you wouldn't get any useful work out. Car no go. But this isn't a perfect world, so in practice it would be a net energy sink, and car still no go. Tellingly, this well produced video is not from Toyota itself. So, can we move on to some REAL WORLD issues? Or should we just ignore your posts? "The floor", as they say, "is yours". ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger Why SECOND'S posts are brainless: "I clocked how much time: no more than 10 minutes per day. Quote: China Increasingly Relies on Imported Food. That’s a Problem. China has so far been able to feed its 1.4 billion people, but climate change and a dependence on imports could pose challenges. Article by Zongyuan Zoe Liu January 25, 2023 3:54 pm (EST) Despite its domestic production, China has been a net importer [DOC] of agricultural products since 2004. Today, it imports more of these products—including soybeans, corn, wheat, rice, and dairy products—than any other country. Between 2000 and 2020, the country’s food self-sufficiency ratio decreased from 93.6 percent to 65.8 percent. Changing diet patterns have also driven up China’s imports of edible oils, sugar, meat, and processed foods. In 2021, the country’s edible oil import-dependency ratio reached nearly 70 percent [article in Chinese], almost as high as its crude oil import dependence. For example, the cost to grow soybeans in China is 1.3 times [article in Chinese] than it is in the United States, and the yield is 60 percent less. Because wages are lower for farmers than for factory workers and other urban occupations, farmers feel incentivized to abandon the profession altogether.
Quote: China’s food import dependence will likely increase as the amount of arable land continues to diminish. Between 2013 and 2019, China lost more than 5 percent of its arable land due to factors such as excess fertilizer use and land neglect, according to Chinese government figures. Extreme weather, environmental degradation, water scarcity and pollution, and climate change could exacerbate the problem. Scholars from the United States and China estimate that climate change and ozone pollution together reduced China’s national average crop yields China’s last nationwide food crisis was the Great Famine in 1959–1961, the largest famine in human history. Sparked by the Great Leap Forward, a series of radical industrialization policies, it led to thirty million people starving to death and about the same number of lost or postponed births. The Great Famine sowed the seed for the decade-long sociopolitical turmoil of the Cultural Revolution in 1966–1976. https://www.cfr.org/article/china-increasingly-relies-imported-food-thats-problem
