Lesson 1: Lying by Omission

If your go-to news sources showed you nothing but this picture:

They are not trustworthy.

Not when the whole situation looked like this...

Usually trying to illustrate to somebody how Lying By Omission is used every day in every article written about politics from both sides is a fairly difficult task.

Rarely are we presented with such a moment in picture format, and certainly not for such a high-profile event.

This is a teaching moment that should not be overlooked and thrown down the memory hole 2 weeks from now.

Really... It's a shame the sun was coming from the opposite direction than would have been ideal here.

Had the sun been shining down from behind the podium, you'd even get to see her huddled up shadow in all of the pictures the media is showing you without her in them.

The following post belongs in this thread. I was responding to sigs who addressed this issue in a multi-purpose post in a different thread, so I am copying it here where it belongs.

Oh. That's cute. Do nothing the entire time there was an active shooter, but make sure to
rush up and be part of the iconic photo after the fact.

Where'd you learn that trick, sweetheart? Years of TikTok clout chasing build that up into an actual
instinct for you, did it?

Fortunately for us, there's video footage. Here's a video leading up to Trump getting up to his
feet, but stopping just short of it.

- Footage starts at 0:10; shooting starts at 0:13

- Camera pans out at 0:21. The female agent in question seen originally as the closest to Trump,
kneeling down off of the lefthand side of the stage by the stairs. One male agent rushes past
her and runs up the stage right to Trump.

It is unknown for how long she was positioned right at the base of those steps, or if she was there
the whole time. But at this point 8 seconds have passed since the first bullet was fired and
there she is doing nothing, like a deer caught in the headlights.

- 0:24 - Another male agent that was further away from the stage than she was before the
shooting, while standing, goes to the back of the stage. She follows him, crouching.

- 0:26 - She vanishes from the camera's view behind stage.

- 0:38 - When the agent who's face was right next to the left side of the podium moves his head
out of the way, you can see her all the way in the back behind everyone else, her face and
sunglasses pointed right in the direction of the camera. Her head moves a little to the left
and is mostly just pointed downward.

At this point she's been kneeling and doing nothing for another 10 seconds after wasting
10 seconds doing nothing before other agents rushed past her.

- 0:50 - Video ends before they were attempting to get Trump on his feet. She was still
ducking at the back of the stage behind all of the other agents and Trump himself.

I don't know what you want me to tell you.

Hey. It's a tough job. I'm certainly not going to go around telling people that I could do
it or that I'd ever even take a bullet for somebody else. I already know what a knife that
belonged in somebody else's back feels like and have no intentions of finding out how somebody
else's bullet tastes.

But that job ain't for her. We're talking AT LEAST 37 seconds of indecision and inactivity
in a job that requires split-second decision making that is on the level of instinct.

Put her behind a desk.

Or maybe Warehouse 13 is real and they need some more secret service agents in the desert.

ETA: I didn't post those pictures contrasting the uneven media coverage of the event in this thread.

Here they are...

At least she wasn't breastfeeding.

Seriously... is anything in the world real anymore. I feel like we're all trapped in a Howie Mandel snowglobe.

Quote:

EXCLUSIVE and BREAKING: During a Donald Trump visit to North Carolina yesterday, a woman Secret Service special agent abandoned her post to breastfeed with no permission/warning to the event site agent, according to three sources in the Secret Service community.

Shortly before Trump's motorcade arrival -- I'm told five minutes beforehand -- the site agent was getting ready for the arrival. (The site agent is the person in charge of the entire event's security.)

The site agent went to do one final sweep of the walking route and found the agent breast-feeding her child in a room that is supposed to be set aside for important Secret Service official work, i.e. a potential emergency related to the president.

A working agent on duty cannot bring a child to a protective assignment. The woman was out of the Atlanta Field Office.

The woman agent was in the room with two other family members.

The agent and her family members bypassed the Uniformed Division checkpoint and were escorted by an unpinned event staff into the room to breastfeed, the sources said. Unpinned means they have not been cleared by the Secret Service to be there.

When contacted about the incident, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the incident did not have an impact on the event. and it's under review.

"All employees of the U.S. Secret Service are held to the highest standards," he said. "While there was no impact to the North Carolina event, the specifics of this incident are being examined. Given this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further."

And shame on me for assuming that this is true just because "2024".

But how the hell would I know if it was or wasn't if I wasn't there to see it with my own eyes when none of the news sources can be trusted?
