I'll give you fact about me: Signym, I think you, 6ix, Trump and Musk deserve what happens to villains such as a slave-owning Confederate who insisted slaves were happy or a German who insisted Jews were the cause of Germany's problems or a Russian who insists Ukraine is ruled by a Nazi dictatorship or a Jap in WWII who hardheartedly believed the Chinese, Koreans, and Filipinos deserved to be subjugated by the superior Japanese. Confederates, Nazis, Russians, and even the Japanese spent their lives destroying what is good and they were killed or maimed for that reason.

Decent people should NOT respond by fighting evil with goodness. Trumptards are not worth the effort of psychologists to gently turn them away from evil. Rather evil should be fought with greater evil. My favorite example of greater evil is firebombing Japan and nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese remember even after 80 years, and have not gone back to their previously evil ways.

A less dramatic reality lesson happened to the Germans and after 80 years they are beginning to imagine their previously evil behavior as righteousness. (Political party Alternative for Germany, a Nazi party, did well in last Sunday's election.) The Confederates got pardoned by slave-owning President Andrew Johnson, which is why the Confederates quickly returned to evil. As for Trumptards, nobody has yet tried to beat them to death to see whether that would fix their rotten behavior. But they don't have to be beaten because they will kill themselves, some faster than others, if you wait. The ultimate Trumptard, Rush Limbaugh, lived 20 years longer than I expected (probably because he was rich) but a Presidential Medal of Freedom could not stop Rush's evil habits from eventually killing him. He now burns in Hell but his Trumptard audience misses him. They will join him as they kill themselves and Rush will entertain them for Eternity.

Trump is also a disrupter, but of a different kind. He's a political disrupter, from outside the established web of mutual backscratching and cozy deal-making. Willing to upset the apple cart.

As I posted before, I believe this is a time of destruction. The "blob" has gotten so big, so self serving, so corrupt, it's metastasized throughout DC, the media, the world, and needs to be rooted out. Not a believer in things like "The Fourth Turning" but what is happening is the result of the "blob" having censored, screwed, grifted, and gaslit us Americans for so long that most of us finally woke up.

This is destruction with a bulldozer, not a scalpel. Mistakes will be made. The end result might not even benefit us. We may wind up simply exchanging globalist oligarchs for American ones.

But this is what you wrought, SECOND. By plastering yourself slavishly to a rotten corpse, and failing to provide a reasonable alternative.

Burn, baby, burn.

Burn it down to the Constitution.

Remove that rotten stuff that's been built up over time: the spook state snooping on us everywhere, the grift, the malicious prosecution, the government-tech-media censorship-propaganda complex, the imperialism and hubris and plain stupidity, the MICC, the globalist agenda ....

Then we can rebuild.

And, finally: WHAT ARE AMERICANS' INTERESTS? WHAT IS THE PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE?

THAT, you never have an answer for. THAT is what betrays you.

As Musk’s brutal disfiguration of the federal government takes hold, a fleet of shitposters has floated the idea that he has a botched penis implant — which, they assert, is why he seems to have undertaken the project of repopulating the globe with his own children, delivered via in vitro fertilization. This talking point picked up steam earlier this month, after confirmation that Musk welcomed his 13th baby, with conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair. (However, according to a lawsuit filed by St. Clair that accuses Musk of being an absentee father, it seems as if the child was created the old-fashioned way. I apologize for that mental image!)

Whatever. The point is, Banks posted a massively viral tweet claiming that singer Grimes, the mother of three of Musk’s kids, told her that he had some sort of defective robot penis. The post has been viewed more than 600,000 times. Again, all of this is almost certainly not true.

Grimes told me this too https://t.co/I6RG1qWeQK

It’s really not hard to understand why Musk might be the subject of wild rumors right now. His unseemly brand of Machiavellian techno-utopianism is undeniably clammy and sinister, and it leads one to believe that he’d be eager to embrace an esoteric body modification. Liberals are still stinging from their defeat in November, and one of the few things they can take solace in is fantasizing about Musk’s permanently maimed penis. (We had a version of this during Trump’s first term, when Stormy Daniels described the man’s member as a gross-looking mushroom.) But let’s talk about the bigger questions at hand: What is a penile implant, exactly? Do those even exist? And what happens if one is, well, botched?

Why the Trump administration is publicly supporting an alleged human trafficker

By Aja Romano | Feb 25, 2025, 12:45 PM CST

https://www.vox.com/culture/401197/andrew-tate-trump-support-richard-g
renell-tweet

Andrew Tate made his name as a misogynist podcast star, but has more recently been known as an alleged rapist and human trafficker as he awaits criminal trial in Romania with his brother Tristan. Last week, the Financial Times reported that the Trump administration, through special envoy Richard Grenell, had tried to pressure the Romanian government to lift travel restrictions on the brothers.

Andrew Tate, whose online course “Hustler’s University” morphed into a platform with nearly a million users, became a powder keg among far-right media influencers in the early 2020s due to his explicitly sexist worldview and its profound influence over millions of teen boys and young men.

This latest high-profile turn in Tate’s ongoing legal saga has again brought the horrifying allegations against him to the forefront — this time with apparent approval from the US government. It’s also a reminder of the cultural reach of the so-called manosphere that Tate helped popularize.

Andrew Tate’s enormous influence rests on intense misogyny — and a lot of alleged criminal activity

Tate’s rise started with a successful kickboxing career, was followed by his removal from the British version of Big Brother, and culminated in a hugely popular podcast that anointed him the “King of Toxic Masculinity.” As Rebecca Jennings explained for Vox in 2022, his “inflammatory diatribes against women, whom he compares to property” became viral fodder on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. He was born in the US, raised in the UK, but now lives in Romania — first moving there in part because, he said, “the rape laws are more lenient,” but has stayed since; following his arrest, he has largely not been allowed to leave the country.

Tate helped bring to mainstream concerns about the “manosphere,” the term for the internet’s loose network of right-wing male influencers and their associated communities. Early on, Tate seemed to be such an obviously extremist node of the manosphere that he should be, as Jennings wrote, easy to ignore.

But Tate’s confident, blatant misogyny proved wildly popular: His dictums, which ranged from bragging about never having read a book to flaunting an aggressive emotional and physical dominance over women, seemed to enthrall boys and men who admired him for his flashy lifestyle, vaunted wealth, and commitment to the bit. Tate’s maxims swept across teen culture, generating horror stories from parents and teachers about his seemingly pervasive and pernicious influence. Originally, Tate presented his schtick as pure fiction, a deliberately exaggerated regressive persona. It soon appeared that was far from the case, as allegations against Tate and his brother began mounting.

Romanian officials have pursued Andrew and Tristan Tate since April 2022, when they first raided one of the pair’s mansions after receiving a tip that the Tates had allegedly abducted a woman and were holding her there against her will. The following year, the brothers and two Romanian accomplices were indicted on charges of rape, forming a criminal gang, and human trafficking. Authorities alleged that Andrew and Tristan Tate had trafficked seven women from the US and the UK to Romania by grooming them and subjecting them to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. (The brothers promptly responded with a civil suit against two of their alleged victims.) In early 2024, the two faced new UK allegations of human trafficking, stemming from an investigation launched more than a decade prior.

Then, in August, the Tates faced additional charges of human trafficking after police raided their estate again and detained six people. The brothers have also faced multiple civil lawsuits filed by alleged victims. One such woman recently filed a suit against them in Florida, claiming they defamed her after she agreed to be a witness in the Romanian criminal trial.

Despite the severity and breadth of the charges against them, things have been going fairly well for the Tates. Last month, Andrew Tate was released from house arrest, though he and his brother are still not allowed to leave Romania and are under court supervision. This followed the return of their luxury assets in October, and a November appeals court ruling that major evidence in the first Romanian criminal case, including testimony from alleged victims, was inadmissible. A judge, citing flaws in the indictment, sent the case back to prosecutors for revision. This left the case on shaky ground — and that was before the American government came calling.

Romania’s foreign minister, Emil Hurezeanu, dismissed his conversation last week with Grenell, which took place briefly during the Munich Security Conference, as “just a repeat of a known stance.” Grenell’s position as “special missions envoy” seems to be an informal one based mainly on his status as a longtime Trump loyalist and his previous role as ambassador to Germany, but he’s made his interest in the Tate brothers public — and explicitly political.

On February 3, before the trip to Munich, Grenell quote-tweeted a reply to Tristan Tate on X and alleged that Romania had used funds from the beleaguered USAID agency to target conservatives, saying the program was “weaponized against people and politicians who weren’t woke.” There appears to be no factual basis for this claim, but it bolsters the Tates’ longtime argument that they are the victims of a political witch hunt.

“I support the Tate brothers as evident by my publicly available tweets,” Grenell told the Financial Times.

Tate’s cultural impact has been felt for years, but is this just the start?

Andrew and Tristan Tate now face three different criminal cases and multiple civil lawsuits in different countries, most for extremely serious allegations of violence and sexual abuse against women. Their most expansive alleged crime, human trafficking, became part of Andrew Tate’s online brand. He actually sold an online course to his followers on how to do it, what he called the “Pimping Hoes Degree.”

Experts say that the techniques Tate taught in this course and elsewhere could be seen as a textbook for how to engage in literal, criminal human trafficking — and the messages Tate espouses across the manosphere are replete with boasting about violence towards women, sexual assault, grooming underage girls, and emotional abuse.

The “Andrew Tate effect” on young men has been so profound that counteracting it has become a mission across multiple public service sectors, from education to public health. Researchers in Sweden found that boys exposed to manosphere influencers were more likely to dehumanize women, while researchers in Australia found “widespread experience of sexual harassment, sexism, and misogyny perpetrated by boys towards women teachers, and the ominous presence of Andrew Tate shaping their behaviour.”

Concerns about Tate encompass real concerns about public safety, and whether boys who have prolonged exposure to him could become more aggressive toward the women around them. At the same time, Tate and others in the manosphere have been credited with helping swing the 2024 US election resoundingly for Trump among young men.

Tate is already a manifestation of extreme misogyny, the worst of what the manosphere has wrought — and his cultural, and now political, elevation is part of a larger, grimmer regression we are perhaps only just at the beginning of.

Quote:

The Department of Government Efficiency takes a radically new approach to this problem of motivation and has created a new means for waste to be cut. It is important to not disregard the fact that there have been many government oversight organizations with the sole purpose of focusing on fraud and waste. DOGE has begun their own efforts of documenting waste and directly cutting excess spending, but they do not seek to undercut previous attempts. DOGE has an ability to act that has not been matched by other waste-cutting agencies.

While the goal of cutting spending is undoubtedly good and we are in a situation of spending crisis, DOGE’s unorthodox methods may set a dangerous precedent for future administrations. It serves as an all purpose task force for the president to enforce his will and identify weaknesses in government spending. While past presidents have been frustrated about being stonewalled by various bureaucrats, DOGE creates an embedded network of control that makes the president’s proclamations much more effectual. While even the left appreciates cutting waste in theory, it is easy to see how such a vital approach to government could be harmful in the future. In the past, layers of inefficiency protected us from radical policies and made systemic change slow. There is no guarantee that a DOGE-type force will only be applied to cutting waste. Even DOGE’s current actions may suggest motives that are less than wholesome. Musk made sure to first attack USAID, which had recently scrutinized him for overcharging the government for Starlink he claimed he would donate. With such an atypical and unsteady start, in the future it could be used to enforce radical social policies or even set the undergirding for a military takeover. DOGE’s effectiveness is the center of its danger.

While there are dangers to be wary of, DOGE could provide a much needed reset for government waste and set the standard for fulfilling campaign promises. It often feels like once elected, presidents have their hands tied and are unable to be judged on the merits of their actions because what happens cannot truly be said to be “them.” This lack of responsibility means that the public is unsatisfied and few things actually happen in a powerful enough way that the citizen can see or feel them. The cutting of DOGE will most likely undo bureaucracies that took decades to establish, creating a new normal that will benefit even the most democratic of presidents. If this process was going through Congress, it would be impossible to make real change in four years. Our debt and interest payments are unsustainable and require this sort of radical action if our country is to continue sustaining itself rather than sinking deeper into destruction through indulgence.

Critics and supporters of DOGE are quick to point out its unfettered nature.

The critics are hesitant of its freedom from Congress and point out that it seems dangerously near an oligarchy. Supporters see it’s unfettered nature as necessary to compete with the droves of unelected officials and agencies relatively free from Congress.

Countless agencies existing outside of congressional concern and control make it nearly impossible for Congress to understand what they are doing, or even which pathways they must use to rein them in.

DOGE is a good solution to the fact that Congress will never have the bandwidth to understand the minutiae of waste and fraud occurring in the federal government.

Additionally, much waste and lack of oversight has simple and truly bipartisan solutions. For example, the treasury not having to state what their specific payments were for should be questioned by anyone. This small administrative detail would have never been brought up in congress, but it will ultimately return so much accountability to the American people. If agencies have been able to deny the public the ability to see what’s going on, the public cannot vote accurately.

The freedom of DOGE is necessary to restore faith in the government and make a new standard of transparency.

Even if they overstep and do things that Congress should be responsible for, let this article’s point stand: we need more transparency and active cost cutting urgently or this country will pay for its nonchalant attitude towards responsibility.

Brings up an interesting point but then backs away from it.

I've got an answer, but first a question. Signym, Kissinger never said the words in your signature and yet you never correct your signature. Why not? The correction is as easy as removing two words from the signature: Henry Kissinger.

Now for the run-up to my answer. My firm belief is the people who side with Trump, or Putin, are too stubborn, too dishonest, too stupid to allow them making decisions for other people. There might be Trumptards that aren't too mentally crippled, but I can't find them were I live.

What are America's needs? My answer: all Trumptards out of government. All other problems will be solvable with those people out of the decision loops. The Trumptards can run their own individual lives but they should not be allowed anywhere near other people and their property. Let the Trumptards mess up their own lives but not be allowed interference with other lives.

You are not sane, little Mr 6ixStringJoker. Are you drunk?

Economists are starting to worry about a serious Trump recession

Tariffs on America’s neighbours and assault on federal government will hit US economy

25 February 2025 4:00pm GMT

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/02/25/economists-starting-wo
rry-serious-trump-recession
/

Donald Trump’s assault on the US federal government and the world’s interlinked manufacturing system have together reached an economic tipping point.

“It seems almost unavoidable that we are headed for a deep, deep recession,” said Jesse Rothstein, Berkeley professor and former chief economist at the US labour department.

Once the pace of job losses crosses a critical line, the multiplier effects can snowball suddenly.

Prof Rothstein said monthly non-farm payrolls – the barometer of US economic health watched closely by markets – could turn viciously negative by late spring, contracting at rates surpassed only during the worst months of Covid and the Lehman crisis in 2008.

“I think we’re going to see historically large drops. Losses of 400,000 a month are not implausible because people are getting nervous out there.

“It is not just the federal employees being fired: it’s all the other people worried they could be next, so they are cutting back too,” he told The Telegraph.

Torsten Slok, of Apollo Global, said layoffs could approach 1m after factoring in the likely chain reaction through contractors. “We are starting to worry about the downside risks to the economy and markets,” he said.

Mr Slok said it is a mystery as to why credit spreads and equities are still so well-behaved when the US Economic Policy Uncertainty Index was now higher than at any time during the great recession.

Prof Rothstein said the damage would not show up immediately due to lag effects. The ugly months will be in April and May, but by then secondary shocks will have spread far and wide.

“There are all kinds of spillovers. Contracts for external contractors are being cut. Nobody knows how much imports are going to cost next month, or if we are even going to have accurate weather forecasts any more.

“How could you hire in these conditions? This is going to be very, very bad,” he said.

Markets are implicitly betting that Trump’s trade wars are just bluster, but he restated on Monday night that his 25pc tariffs against Mexico and Canada would go ahead next week, which would instantly snarl up the North American auto industry.

“It would be devastating,” said Ford’s Jim Farley.

Trump has a particular loathing for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its weather service, deemed the spearhead of “the climate change alarm industry” by Maga’s Project 2025.

Officials at NOAA have already been told that “climate change”, and “pollution” are henceforth banned terms. The office of management and budget plans to cut 38pc of their funding as part of its campaign to root out “woke agendas”. Commerce secretary Howard Lutnick wants to abolish the agency entirely.

The surprise is that Elon Musk’s army of zoomer zealots are taking on everybody, even the US defence department. It will fire 5,400 civilian staff next week as the first stage of a 5pc to 8pc cull of the Pentagon staff to “cut the fat and grow the [warrior] muscle.”

It is hard to gauge the macroeconomic intensity of the fiscal cuts because judges are trying to jam on the brakes. We do not know what is mere theatre. I incline to the view that the culture war is deadly serious.

Orville Schell, director of the Asia Society, says Trump is uncannily like his fellow agent of insurrection, Mao Zedong, who also revelled in permanent havoc as a governing method.

The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution launched in 1966 weaponised the fanaticism of indoctrinated youth, urging them to rise up and “bombard the headquarters” of the deep state.

Character-posters incited them to do their worst: “World in great disorder: excellent situation!” or “Without destruction, there can be no construction”, writes Schell on Project Syndicate.

Musk, meanwhile, does a passingly good imitation of Mao’s enforcer Kuai Dafu, who raised a student shock force of 5,000 Red Guards to crush resistance in the Communist hierarchy.

A young princeling called Xi Jinping was sent off to “eat bitterness” in the coal fields of Shaanxi.

What does China’s leader now make of this strange spectacle in Washington? Quiet satisfaction that America is tearing itself apart? Or alarm that the madness will spin out of control? A regime that sacks staff in charge of America’s nuclear weapons, without realising who they are, is a planetary danger. But I digress.

Trump hopes to overwhelm any contractionary shock by slashing taxes with his “ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” now heading for Congress.

But the risk for him is that a) his ideological stunts will send the economy into a tailspin months before any stimulus kicks in, and b) it will be thin gruel in any case.

You only have to read the details of Executive Order 14154 to see that there will be real economic consequences. Section 7, Terminating the Green New Deal, reads: “All agencies shall immediately pause the disbursement of funds appropriated through the Inflation Reduction Act or the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”

Judges have intervened but almost $300bn (£240bn) left from the Infrastructure Act remains in limbo. Freyr Battery has cancelled a $2.6bn plant in Georgia linked to the IRA. Kore Power has dropped its $1.2bn energy storage project in Arizona. Heliene has shelved a $200m solar-cell facility. Nel has halted its $200m gigafactory in Detroit. Prysmian will not be making undersea cables for offshore wind after all.

The US economy has been displaying late-cycle fatigue for some time, which is no doubt why Warren Buffett more than doubled his holding of cash and treasury bills to $334bn last year. We can only guess at his real reasons for battening down the hatches: perhaps he fears the delayed effects of past Fed tightening; or perhaps he dislikes anarchy.

Last week’s US data ought to be a warning.

Home sales fell 4.9pc in January. S&P Global’s survey of services tipped into contraction, and manufacturing held up only because of “front-running” ahead of trade wars. “February saw the US expansion falter to near-stall pace,” it said.

Is Wall Street showing the same pathological complacency seen in late 1999, or late 2007, or in early 2020, when it was already clear to anybody paying scientific attention that Covid meant havoc wherever it hit, progressing in staggered shocks over seven weeks from China, to Korea, to Iran, to Lombardy (blithely dismissed as an “Italian issue”) before investors reacted? Markets then went mad.

The deeper question we have to ask is what is the equilibrium value of equities and financial assets in a world where the US declares trade war against the democracies, and aligns itself with Russia and North Korea in geopolitics.

Trump has supposedly come to an agreement with Ukraine over its mineral wealth:
Quote:

Under the terms of the agreement, Ukraine would pay some proceeds from future mineral resource development into a fund that would invest in projects in Ukraine.... The size of the U.S.’s stake in the fund and joint ownership deals will be hashed out in future agreements.

That is clear as mud — and it's the best explanation I could find. Does this mean the US gets money out of the deal? Or minerals? Trump is obsessed with the idea of being paid.

In any case, Zelensky is due in Washington on Friday to sign the deal, so presumably all the details will be available by then. The Winds of Change are blowing hard.

Republicans are coming off of their best presidential election performance with low-income voters in recent memory. According to the (imperfect) 2024 exit polls, President Donald Trump won voters earning $50,000 or less, something he didn’t do in either his 2020 or 2016 campaigns. This is a landmark measure of the Trump era realignment, with lower-income, noncollege voters of all races moving toward the Republican Party, while college-educated, higher-income white voters migrate to the Democrats.

Republican governance, however, has not kept up with these changes.

After a chaotic, grinding effort Tuesday to corral the necessary votes, House Republicans barely passed a blueprint for their “one big, beautiful bill” containing much of Trump’s legislative agenda. It tees up their ability to use the filibuster-proof reconciliation process to enact a sweeping bill, along party lines, down the road.

The blueprint creates space for a mishmash of Republican priorities, like beefing up border security and boosting defense spending. But its core is the same old, same old: Cutting spending for programs that poor people rely on, and cutting taxes. It is, in other words, roughly the same agenda that Republicans sought in 2017, when Trump entered the White House for the first time, even though the party’s composition has changed significantly since then.

The most controversial element for Republicans is that the blueprint tasks the Energy and Commerce Committee with finding $880 billion in cuts. This powerful committee, once described as having jurisdiction over “anything that moves, burns, or is sold,” also oversees Medicaid. Since Trump has ruled out cuts to Medicare, it’s Medicaid, a program that spends nearly a trillion dollars per year, that’s the obvious pot to raid for cash. Indeed, House Republicans earlier this year put out a menu of spending cuts they could choose from, and the bulk of the Energy and Commerce options relate to Medicaid. Republicans have some other big targets, for other committees, in mind, whether that’s rolling back food stamps or student loans. But the members have cornered themselves into targeting Medicaid for the bulk of the savings they want to achieve in order to finance tax cuts.

It has at least begun to dawn on some Republicans that the party now describing itself as the tribune of the American poor might be acting counterintuitively here.

The straightforward solution is a return to the tax rates when Eisenhower was President. But that is a solution Trump would never accept. How much did he pay in 2016? 2017? $750.

The predictably horrific conditions created by Trump at Guantanamo

Here’s what a new investigation tells us.

by Patrick Reis | Feb 25, 2025, 4:35 PM CST

https://www.vox.com/politics/401285/logoff-guantanamo

What’s happening at Guantánamo? The administration housed nearly 180 migrants there for weeks before they were deported to Venezuela on Thursday. A report today from the Washington Post revealed horrific conditions while they were there. The reports, based on interviews with migrants released in Venezuela, reveal:

1 Detainees housed in solitary confinement, going outside only twice in a two-week period;

2 “Humiliating and invasive strip searches”;

3 Multiple suicide attempts, including one man who swallowed screws and another who attempted to slit his wrists with sharpened plastic bottles.

Administration officials have said the military prison would house the “worst of the worst” criminals, but among the migrants the Post interviewed, their only known criminal act was crossing the border illegally.

On Sunday, the administration flew 17 additional migrants to Guantanamo, the New York Times reported.

What’s next? President Donald Trump has ordered his team to prepare to house up to 30,000 migrants at Guantánamo, but the plan is running into roadblocks. CNN reported Monday that the base had paused plans to house migrants in tents because they lack the air conditioning and electricity needed to meet detention standards.

What’s the big picture? When Trump announced his Guantánamo plan, administration officials said fears of mistreatment at military facilities were misplaced. Now, with only a fraction of the planned number of detainees housed at the base, the Post’s report suggests that mistreatment has already occurred.

NPR reported Monday that the administration is now laying the groundwork to house undocumented immigrants in military bases around the country.

DOGE Secretly Changes Its Website After Being Caught in Huge Lies

By Malcolm Ferguson | February 25, 2025 3:30 p.m. ET

DOGE deleted the top five highest savings claims on its “wall of receipts” leaderboard after various news outlets pointed out multiple errors in its calculations.

The savings, deleted with no explanation from DOGE or the White House, include: a $232 million cut to the Social Security Administration that actually amounted to only $560,000; an $8 billion cut at Immigration and Customs Enforcement that was actually only $8 million; and three $655 million cuts at the U.S. Agency for International Development that ended up being a measly $18 million. These mistakes all seem to be completely avoidable human errors.

Musk and Trump have rapidly destroyed U.S. influence in the world. America redefined itself as a rogue nation that doesn’t honor its promises, threatens its allies, tries to engage in Mafia-style extortion, and intervenes in democratic nations’ elections.

Let me set it up for you: “Rubio” is congressionally confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who occupies a position that is traditionally considered one of the most powerful in the world. “Farritor” and “Kliger” are Luke Farritor and Gavin Kliger, computer programmers in their mid-20s who work for DOGE, a so-called temporary organization created by executive order. “Musk” is Elon Musk.

Rubio had decreed that certain critical programs — such as aid to Ukraine and Syria and costs related to the PEPFAR program to combat HIV in Africa — would continue to be funded. Several times, USAID managers prepared packages of these payments and got the agency’s interim leaders to sign off on them with support from the White House.

But each time, using their new gatekeeping powers and clearly acting on orders from Musk or one of his lieutenants, Farritor and Kliger would veto the payments — a process that required them to manually check boxes in the payment system one at a time, the same tedious way you probably pay your bills online. Meanwhile, AIDS clinics shuttered and staff found themselves stranded in unstable countries such as Congo.

According to the administration, the Department of Government Efficiency is merely an advisory group that Musk oversees but does not formally direct. But Musk — via his staff — is canceling payments that have been approved by both the secretary of state and the “White House.”

EPA tells White House to strike down landmark climate finding

By Maxine Joselow | February 26, 2025, 11:41 a.m. EST

https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/02/26/epa-enda
ngerment-finding-trump-climate
/

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin has privately urged the White House to strike down a scientific finding underpinning much of the federal government’s push to combat climate change, according to three people briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.

The 2009 “endangerment finding” cleared the way for regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act by concluding that the planet-warming gases pose a threat to public health and welfare. The Obama and Biden administrations used that determination to set strict limits on emissions from cars and power plants.

By repealing the endangerment finding, the Trump administration would be taking one of its most consequential steps yet to derail federal climate efforts. In recent days, the administration has also blocked work that is central to international climate research and barred federal scientists and diplomats from attending a major climate event in China.

EPA officials weighed whether to reverse the endangerment finding during President Donald Trump’s first term but opted not to do so.

Conservatives have argued that repealing the finding is critical to unraveling what they see as burdensome limits on emissions from various sectors of the economy. Environmentalists, in contrast, say the finding has justified stronger regulations that have yielded enormous benefits for the planet and public health.

On the first day of his second term, Trump signed an executive order that tasked the EPA with reviewing the “legality and continuing applicability of” the endangerment finding. The order gave Zeldin 30 days to submit recommendations to Russell Vought, the head of the White House budget office.

EPA officials have not shared the recommendations publicly. EPA spokeswoman Molly Vaseliou declined to comment on the matter Tuesday, saying in an email, “EPA is in compliance with this aspect of the President’s Executive Order.”

Mandy Gunasekara, who served as EPA chief of staff at the end of Trump’s first term and wrote the EPA chapter in the conservative blueprint Project 2025, has been advising the administration on repealing the endangerment finding, according to the three individuals briefed on the matter.

Jonathan Brightbill, who was a top deputy in the Justice Department’s environment and natural resources division during Trump’s first term, has also provided legal advice, these people said. Brightbill recently served on the Trump transition team at the Justice Department and is a partner at the law firm Winston & Strawn.

Gunasekara and Brightbill did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The endangerment finding has sparked legal and political battles in Washington for more than 15 years. In 2007, the Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling that the EPA has the authority to regulate carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases as pollutants under the Clean Air Act. In response, the EPA first issued the endangerment finding and then established the first-ever carbon limits for vehicles and power plants.

During Trump’s first term, skeptics of mainstream climate science filed a petition asking the EPA to repeal the determination. But agency lawyers rejected that petition on Trump’s last day in office in 2021.

Allies of the fossil fuel industry cheered the idea that the administration would revisit the issue.

“They unfortunately didn’t do this in the first term, so I’m pleased to see that they’re working on this in the second term,” said Tom Pyle, president of the American Energy Alliance, an advocacy group for the oil and gas sector.

Myron Ebell, who led the EPA transition team during Trump’s first term, said nixing the endangerment finding could make it easier to overturn Biden-era climate policies.

“If you want to go back and redo one of these rules, you’re going to have a very spirited court battle if you ignore the endangerment finding,” said Ebell, the chairman of the conservative American Lands Council. “So I think they really need to do this.”

Environmental advocates said they would challenge the move in court. “If the Trump EPA proceeds down this path and jettisons the obvious finding that climate change is a threat to our health and welfare, it will mean more polluted air and more catastrophic extreme weather for Americans,” said David Doniger, a senior strategist and attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council. “We will see them in court.”

Sean Donahue — an attorney who has represented environmental groups that support the endangerment finding — said he thinks any repeal effort will be struck down, given the robust body of scientific evidence on the dangers of planetary warming.

“You can have a lot of good and reasonable disputes about exactly how we should be addressing climate change,” he said in a phone interview. “But the proposition that greenhouse gas emissions from human activities don’t endanger public health and welfare is not a position that could be supported by the science or what EPA’s own record suggests.”

What TWO said. Yup, I agree.

So, comrade SIGNYM a question from me. What justification does Russia have for going into Ukraine? Both times comrade. First time in 2014 I think it was. It is obvious the Ukrainians don't want them there. I predict you will say elections were held and they want Russia there. Which would explain why they are killing Russians as quick as they can.

Of course you do, ya fuckin' bobble head.

Too bad for you that you lost. And now you get to see your entire world fall apart before your very eyes.

And all the Democrats can do now is try to save those poor tranny kids that want to beat up women in women's sports.

You're not learning any lessons.

Your party is dead.

You chose death.

Eisenhower was paying off WWII debt.

So, what did we blow our money on afterwards?

AFA your constant bitching about Trump and taxes .... ALL ultra wealthy people pay very little taxes. Bezos. Buffet. Gates. Musk.
Corporations also pay very little in taxes
The problem isn't Trump.
It's our tax law.
You really are very, very stupid. A stupid person with an axe to grind.

I assume you are forgetting that the Trumptards in Congress are, once again, lower taxes. The corrective action would be to raise taxes to the level during Eisenhower's administration. Poor people such as Signym and 6ix struggle because rich people like me gather all the wealth for themselves. Back when Eisenhower was President, the wealthy couldn't own all of America, but it is inevitable now. It's great for me and my similarly oriented children and sisters, so I'm not gonna stop it, and neither is Trump. He has gone a few steps further by arbitrarily paying no tax; law means nothing to him. There are numerous articles about 'Trump paid no tax' because he lied on his tax returns:

What the hell is going on in the brains of angry poor white trash like 6ix and Signym? There is a scientific explanation that essentially says Trumptards lack sufficient experience with the world as it truly is:

It’s Been 10 Years Since “The Dress”

The viral image holds a lesson in why people disagree — and how we can learn to better understand each other.

By Pascal Wallisch | Feb 26, 2025 10:00 AM

https://slate.com/technology/2025/02/the-dress-black-gold-blue-white-v
iral-psychology.html

It was not a tranquil time. People argued with their friends about the very basics of reality. Spouses vehemently disagreed. Each and every person was on one side or the other side. It could be hard to imagine how anyone in their right mind could hold an opinion different from your own.

I’m talking, of course, about “the dress,” which went viral on Feb. 26, 2015, ten years ago today. To recap: A cellphone picture of a wedding guest’s dress, uploaded to the internet, sharply divided people into either white and gold or black and blue — even if they were viewing it together, on the very same computer or phone screen. This is not a debate about people seeing different shades of gray: blue and gold are categorically different colors, not even in the same neighborhood on the color wheel.

The notorious dress, under natural lighting conditions, is unambiguously black and blue, for (almost) everyone who saw it in person, or in other photographs.

. . . the next time you find yourself in an intractable disagreement, whether about colors, politics, or morality, consider this: You and the other person are not just arguing about the facts. You are seeing the world through different priors.

Our family ran a natural experiment. My sisters married Trumptards. They didn't know because Trump's political career was decades in the future but there were signs. The sisters got jobs as a school teacher and a nurse while the Trumptards took crap jobs that seemed easy. The sisters are multimillionaires who still work despite being 67 and 74. They like their jobs as I like mine. As for the Trumptard husbands, they are bitter that their "careers" didn't go well, disappointed that being lazy, stupid, dishonest fools is not a path to success. But, somehow, Trump will fix it for them as only he can do.

"It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger

It was the "then" clause of a conditional statement:

Word should be gotten to Nixon that if Thieu meets the same fate as Diem, the word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal.

Kissinger said this in late November 1968 after Nixon was elected president, but before Nixon was inaugurated.

It wasn't a public statement, just a statement to William F. Buckley Jr. in a phone call, with Buckley taking notes, so it isn't verifiable beyond Buckley (author of United Nations Journal: A Delegate's Odyssey).

Exclusive: The full text of the US-Ukraine mineral deal

By The Kyiv Independent | February 26, 2025 3:25 PM

https://kyivindependent.com/exclusive-the-full-text-of-the-final-us-uk
raine-mineral-agreement
/

Kyiv and Washington agreed on a deal on Feb. 25. The negotiations around the deal have fueled tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky in the past week.

My translation of Trump’s dumb "deal":

1. There is a fund. The US share of the fund will be "to the extent permissible under applicable United States laws." Details will come later in a Fund Agreement.

2. The fund will collect money contributed to the fund.

3. Ukraine will contribute to the fund 50% of all money earned from mining of natural resources.

4. The US supports a prosperous Ukraine.

5. The fund will invest in Ukranian projects, mainly mineral extraction.

6. Ukraine won't sign any deals that encumber the fund.

7. The fund is commercial in nature.

8. The Fund Agreement will ensure the fund can't evade sanctions.

9. The Fund Agreement will be developed soon.

10. This agreement will be part of lasting peace.

11. This agreement is binding.

The US gets nothing out of this. Some unspecified share of an investment fund that may or not ever be profitable, I guess. It doesn't seem to be much of a deal.

Donald Trump has threatened to slap 25% tariffs on the European Union, claiming the 27-country bloc was “formed to screw the United States”.

Speaking at his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the US president said he would soon release details of the latest tariff threat. “We have made a decision and we’ll be announcing it very soon. It’ll be 25%,” he said.

Many economists and even conservative publications, including the Wall Street Journal, have warned that Trump’s plans risk hurting the US economy. On Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to attack a Journal editorial that argued his tariffs on Canada and Mexico would backfire, hurting the US economy.

Calling the argument “soooo wrong”, Trump wrote: “The tariffs will drive massive amounts of auto manufacturing to MICHIGAN, a State which I just easily one [sic] in the Presidential Election,” he wrote.
