The CEO of the Anti-Defamation League rebuked Elon Musk on Thursday after the MAGA billionaire joked about the Holocaust amid the blowback over his evocative salute.

But after Musk’s jokes Thursday, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt seemed to have enough of it all. In a statement directly addressing Musk, he wrote:

“We’ve said it hundreds of times before and we will say it again: the Holocaust was a singularly evil event, and it is inappropriate and offensive to make light of it ... @elonmusk, the Holocaust is not a joke.”

In France, sales of new Teslas fell by 63 percent with EV sales dropping just half a percent.

Germany was already looking like lost ground for Tesla—its 41 percent drop in 2024. That must make the 59 percent drop in German Tesla sales recorded during January 2025 even more painful on the profit and loss statements.

Large declines have also been recorded in Sweden (44 percent), Norway (38 percent), and the Netherlands (42 percent).

The behavior of Tesla CEO Elon Musk could be to blame for much of Europe's distaste for his cars. Lately, Musk has repeatedly inserted himself into European politics to create friction and promote his far-right causes. Over there, at least, it seems car buyers may be sick of him.

“Your average MAGA Trump supporter isn’t going to go buy a Tesla,” McDonald, the EV analyst, said. Before the car shipped in November 2023, Musk predicted that Tesla would sell 250,000 a year. He hasn’t even sold one-fifth of that in total—and sales are falling. (Neither Tesla nor Musk responded to a request for comment.)

Musk made a lot of other promises that haven’t really panned out: The Cybertruck was supposed to debut at less than $40,000. The cheapest model currently available is double that. The vehicle, Musk said, would be “really tough, not fake tough.” Instead, its stainless-steel side panels have fallen off because Tesla used the wrong glue—and that was just the most recent of the car’s eight recalls. The Cybertruck was supposed to be able to haul “near infinite mass” and “serve briefly as a boat.” Just this month alone, one Cybertruck’s rear end snapped off in a test of its towing power, and another sank off the coast of Los Angeles while trying to offload a Jet Ski from the bed.

The Cybertruck, in that sense, is a perfect metaphor for Musk himself. The world’s richest man has a bad habit of promising one thing and delivering another. X was supposed to be the “everything app”; now it is a cesspool of white supremacy. DOGE was billed as an attempt to make the government more nimble and tech-savvy. Instead, the cuts have resulted in seniors struggling to get their Social Security checks. So far, Musk has only continued to get richer and more powerful while the rest of us have had to deal with the wreckage. Let that sink in, as he likes to say. The disaster of the Cybertruck is not that it’s ugly, or unconventional, or absurdly pointy. It’s that, for most people, the car just isn’t worth driving.

If You Lie With DOGE You Get Fleeced

I have to admit that even now I’m not sure how the Donald Trump/Elon Musk breakup will play out. We’ve seen so many Trump critics eventually cave, engaging in humiliating acts of self-abasement, that it’s hard to be sure that even Musk — who has a monstrous ego, but whose business interests can be badly damaged by a vengeful president — is immune.

But one indication that this breach won’t be easily resolved is the pace at which anti-Musk stories are being leaked to the news media.

I was especially struck by reports of a confrontation between Musk and Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary. We have solid reporting of the fact that the two men fought over the choice of acting IRS commissioner, and that Bessent won. Unfortunately, our only account of what happened next comes from Steve Bannon. But that story is almost too good not to be true.

According to Bannon, after the meeting the two men began exchanging insults, with Bessent pointing out that Musk had promised to find trillions of dollars in wasteful spending but come up empty. “You’re a fraud. You’re a total fraud,” Bessent supposedly said. At that point Musk body-checked the Treasury secretary, who hit back, and White House staff had to break up the fight.

Is this story plausible? Is the world’s richest man so lacking in self-control that he would behave like a hopped-up adolescent in the White House? Of course he is — that’s the completely plausible part of the story. I’m a little more skeptical of the portrayal of Bessent as someone willing to speak the truth that bluntly.

But in any case what Bessent supposedly said was completely true. Musk is a total fraud. He failed to deliver on his promises of huge deficit reduction. In fact, DOGE almost certainly lost money. There’s no evidence for many of the cost savings it claims, and the “receipts” it has provided are full of misstatements and errors. And the disruption it caused almost surely cost taxpayers more than any minor savings it may have found.

Furthermore, its depredations have left both the federal government and the nation as a whole degraded and weakened in ways that will take years to reverse.

Of course, you shouldn’t expect anyone in the Trump administration to admit that DOGE was a complete, costly bust. These people never admit being wrong. But if you look at what is actually happening right now, there’s clearly a frantic effort at de-DOGEification. The Washington Post reports,

Across the government, the Trump administration is scrambling to rehire many federal employees dismissed under DOGE’s staff-slashing initiatives after wiping out entire offices, in some cases imperiling key services such as weather forecasting and the drug approval process.

The people DOGE installed in federal agencies appear to be losing most or all of their influence now that they no longer have a patron with the president’s ear, and it appears that at least some of the young tech bros Musk tried to put in charge of government programs they didn’t understand are self-deporting.

Oh, and if you think I’m being disrespectful by making fun of the Muskenjugend, consider what we’ve learned about the U.S. Institute for Peace, which DOGE took over for a while before being forced by the courts to give up control. Returning workers reportedly found the office full of cockroaches and rodents, with leftover marijuana and empty beer bottles strewn about.

All of this was completely predictable. Well, maybe not a fistfight in the White House, but anyone who knew anything about how the federal government spends its money knew that DOGE would fail.

To repeat the old line, the federal government is basically an insurance company with an army. Musk made a brief stab at going after the insurance side, with his ludicrous claim that millions of dead people were collecting Social Security, but aside from that all of DOGE’s efforts were focused on where the money isn’t — nondefense discretionary spending (NDD).

Was this small segment of the budget bloated and full of waste? Hardly. As the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities documents, NDD on the eve of Musk’s arrival was historically low as a percentage of GDP:

And if you look at the major categories within NDD, nothing stands out as an obvious waste of money:

Or maybe I should say, nothing looks like an obvious place to make big cuts unless you think it’s a good idea to slash spending on international affairs — largely foreign aid — along with spending on science, environment and medical research. The Trump administration is indeed making big cuts in all these areas, but not because they involve waste and fraud. Instead, the goal seems to be to undermine U.S. influence in the world and destroy U.S. scientific leadership.

In any case, none of this has anything to do with the massive savings Musk claimed he would achieve by eliminating waste and fraud.

So how could he have made such foolish claims? After all, Musk is a brilliant businessman, creator of fantastic products like the Cybertruck. Oh, wait. https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/tesla-problems-cybertruck-trump-mus

But the real point isn’t Musk’s personal failings. It’s the falsity of the whole claim that the U.S. government wastes vast amounts of taxpayers’ money. Of course there’s waste and fraud there, as there is in any large organization. But the federal government has in fact historically been a well-run organization, with many dedicated workers doing their jobs as best they can despite often being paid less than they could earn in the private sector.

Then Musk marched in, told these workers that they were worthless and pushed many of them out. He was wrong, and now he’s gone. But after the way they’ve been treated, the best federal workers are probably the least likely to return now that even the Trump administration is beginning to realize that it needs them.

America will spend years paying the price for Musk’s fraudulence.

Is driving on the wrong side of the road a feature?

About seven minutes into the ride, the Tesla comes upon an intersection while in the turn-only lane. The wheel jerks a bit as the car drives straight through the intersection, ending up in the opposite lane of traffic once through the lights. It starts to correct, then opts to just bypass the cars in front of it by driving through the no-passing zone lines and into a turn lane, where it finally gets re-aligned.

Another video uploaded by Edward Niedermeyer shows a Tesla Robotaxi needlessly braking hard and coming to a near-complete stop in the middle of the road when it passes police vehicles, neither of which are actually on the street itself or require yielding.

Robotaxi is limited to a very small chunk of Austin and can’t go to the airport. There are already so many major issues on display in a small number of actual miles driven.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk promised that Tesla's robotaxis would launch offering fully "unsupervised" rides with "no one in the car."

That turned out to be a lie. And less than a week into the robotaxi service's debut, which is currently limited to a tiny geofenced area in Austin, Texas, it's already become apparent that the self-driving cars are very much reliant on the human supervisors — or "safety monitors" — that Musk was adamant he wouldn't need.

In an incident shared on Wednesday, a popular Tesla content creator who goes by the handle "Dirty Tesla" said that after his robotaxi ride dropped him off, the vehicle struggled to exit the tight parking lot and appeared to back up into a parked car. The safety monitor got out of the front passenger seat, climbed into the driver's seat to take over, and then drove away.

I doubt that zombies give much thought to other zombies. Fifty percent of the population where I live are zombies, meaning they are Trumptards. It is obvious who is a Trumptard and who isn't. (See the movie 28 Years Later [2025]) Where you live, Indiana, everybody is a zombie. If they are human, they try to blend in so that they are not attacked by the semi-human Trumptards.

On one hand, humans are repelled by zombies and the semi-human Trumptards because both behave in a less than human fashion. On the other hand, zombies and Trumptards are a hazard to real humans. Maybe 6ixStringJack can see why zombies and semi-humans are not conscious of either Trump or Elon Musk, both of whom are obviously not human.

Claiming not to use drugs or a laptop, Elon "Pedo Guy" Musk has found someone to blame for Tesla's abysmally poor performance, not himself.

Head of Tesla's sales and manufacturing operations in North America and Europe, Omead Afshar, has been dismissed. It must seem obvious to anyone paying even the least bit of attention that this guy, whom we seldom hear about, is the reason Teslas are not selling. Elon has managed to get Teslas universally referred to as Swasticars, his ability to achieve marketing excellent is without compare.

Afshar, who was considered one of the more senior executives at the company, reported directly to Musk and has also worked at Musk's rocket company, SpaceX. On Thursday, Bloomberg reported that Afshar had "left" the company, but did not provide details about why. Not long afterward, Forbes reported that Afshar had been let go by Musk, citing sources with knowledge of the situation. CNBC later claimed to have confirmed the news. Gizmodo reached out to Tesla for more information.

The circumstances surrounding Afshar's departure are unclear (and, again, the company hasn't confirmed his termination yet), though there are plenty of reasons why Musk might be angry about his company's sales operations. In recent months, the number of people buying Musk's cars has continued to drop at a staggering rate. In April, Automotive News reported that Tesla sales had fallen 16 percent in the U.S., year-over-year. On Wednesday, Cox Automotive, which provides car dealerships with business intelligence, projected that Tesla sales were expected to dip another 21 percent during this quarter.
