I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It seemed to me that the protests were mostly NOT about ICE. Except in heavily hispanic cities.

Mostly attended by whites who appear to be nicely dressed, with good spelling, and college educated. .. one or two blacks here and there ... and primarily anti-Trump.

So basically what we have is an anti-Trump movement, funded by Soros and other globalists, under a catch-all title. BUT NO AGENDA MOVING FORWARD. A classic color revolution operation.

I wonder if this will eventually be used to gin up support for a nicely dressed, white, college educated, seemingly middle-of-the-road ... a Bill Clinton- style "moderate Democrat" with a globalist agenda.

I posted earlier that the Trump election is, for the globalists, possibly not a problem but an OPPORTUNITY. The collected problems of the USA ... financial, foreign policy, immigration, social, economic, political, environmental ... could be blown up under Trump. Then, with MAGA and populism discredited along with its most powerful leader, global financialism and hyper-monopolism could resume.

As it is, nobody needs to blow anything up bc Trump is self-destructing all on his own. His ego is preventing him from admitting inevitable defeat in Ukraine, which is why he keeps pushing a "negotiated settlement" (so he can claim credit or at least avoid surrender). And he's tying the USA to the millstone that is Israel, which will likely be another defeat in 5 years or so.

Way to go, America. You ruined Trump's parade and made him sad

Nice job, guys. Do you know how hurtful that was for a man who just wanted to have a cool birthday parade that would make him feel like a powerful dictator?

People from Virginia to California and everywhere in between were hoisting signs that said mean things about President Trump like “IF MELANIA DOESN’T HAVE TO LIVE WITH HIM…WHY DO WE?”

Just a bunch of unemployed, white, college "educated" kids with nothing better to do in June on the weekend after Pride month was cancelled.

Not really though. Nobody actually showed up to these things. Certainly not millions of people.

They're running out of steam. If they keep losing all the morale battles as they have during the last 6 months, they're going to be crushed under their own emotional damage and they're likely to give up entirely and finally move on.

Like... What did this weekend get them anyhow? Nothing. Just more exposure for the normies to the lies of the Legacy Media, more video evidence of thousands of illegals and white college "educated" kids flying flags from other countries while burning American flags and businesses, ramped up ICE raids in blue "Sanctuary" cities announced countrywide on the very next day.

Things aren't going to be the same after this. I don't think that people get that yet.

Trump's Deportations are a Flop.
Libtards at the No Kings Protests should have been celebrating that Trump's team is incompetent at planning and performing.

Trump is deporting way fewer people than Obama did. Why?

Obama, the “deporter in chief,” still holds the record.

By Nicole Narea | Jun 17, 2025, 6:00 AM CDT

President Donald Trump promised his supporters “the largest deportation program in American history” — but he’s nowhere close.

That distinction belongs to an early 20th-century program that likely saw 2 million people deported. When looking at more recent times, it’s President Barack Obama — once dubbed by immigrant advocates “the deporter in chief” — who holds the 21st-century deportation record. His administration kicked out 438,421 people in 2013. No president since has come close to equaling that record, including Trump during his first term.

Trump’s ambitions have been stymied. If Trump truly wants to set a new record, he’ll need to more than double the current pace of deportations. And that will take a strategy that radically departs from what he is doing.

Lies and Deportations

The truth about Trump’s off-again-on-again deportation policies is catching up with him

By Paul Krugman | Jun 17, 2025

https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/lies-damned-lies-and-deportations

Trump returned to power apparently convinced that America is being overrun with violent immigrant criminals. So all he had to do was order ICE to start rounding up these evildoers and kick them out.

However, tracking down undocumented immigrants who are also criminals has turned out to be a slow affair, because the great majority of immigrants — like the great majority of people in general — are law-abiding. In fact, the available evidence suggests that undocumented aliens are less likely to commit crimes than native born Americans. Things move a little faster if ICE ignores due process and just sends people it imagines might be criminals to overseas prisons. But this means sending people who may well be innocent — and legal residents — to horrifying gulags. And while such things don’t bother Trump or Stephen Miller, they do in fact bother many Americans.

Yet Miller, by all accounts, has been deeply frustrated at the slow pace of deportations. So the administration began just rounding up people who look to them like illegal immigrants. Again, the abandonment of due process and rule of law clearly didn’t bother them.

But the loss of an important part of the labor force bothered business interests. And so last week Trump suddenly announced that he wouldn’t be going after immigrant workers in agriculture and the hospitality industry, who are “very good, long time workers.”

What this meant, I guess, was that the dragnets will be limited to industries that employ large numbers of undocumented immigrants, but in which these immigrants are not a crucial part of the work force.

So I wondered how long it would take Trump to realize that there are no such industries. I mean, wait until he learned about who does the hard, dangerous work in the construction industry.

Sure enough, it only took a couple of days for the administration to reverse its policy of exempting farms and restaurants from immigrant raids. Anti-immigrant hardliners realized, even if Trump didn’t, that going easy on immigrants who are crucial to the economy would in effect mean abandoning the whole idea of mass deportation.

As often, it’s useful if disturbing to read what Trump says, unfiltered by media sanewashing. Here’s part of a screed from Sunday:

“In order to achieve this, we must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America's largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside. These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens. These Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities — And they are doing a good job of it! There is something wrong with them. That is why they believe in Open Borders, Transgender for Everybody, and Men playing in Women's Sports — And that is why I want ICE, Border Patrol, and our Great and Patriotic Law Enforcement Officers, to FOCUS on our crime ridden and deadly Inner Cities, and those places where Sanctuary Cities play such a big role. You don't hear about Sanctuary Cities in our Heartland!”

Notice that Trump is still going on about “our crime ridden and deadly Inner Cities,” oblivious to the reality that homicides in major cities have plunged — in New York, where immigrants make up 37 percent of the population, murders were 83 percent lower in 2024 than in 1990, and have continued to fall rapidly this year. Note also that Trump has gone full Replacement Theory, claiming that Democrats are deliberately bringing in illegal aliens to “expand their voter base” (undocumented immigrants can’t vote.)

But in the context of Trump’s temporary move on farm and hospitality workers, the line that struck me was the one about how immigrants were “robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.” Which “good paying Jobs and Benefits” did he have in mind? Agricultural field work? Scrubbing toilets? Installing drywall?

Incidentally, not only do undocumented immigrants often do the most physically demanding and unsafe work, they are often deliberately misclassified as independent contractors, which means that they “do not have access to health insurance, medical leave, workers’ compensation insurance coverage, and safe workplace protections.”

The point is that in general undocumented immigrants don’t take good jobs away from native-born Americans. By and large they take jobs the native-born don’t want or would only take at much higher wages. This means that immigrants are complements, not substitutes, for native workers. They increase, not reduce, native-born wages. And mass deportation, if it really gets going, will be an economic as well as a human catastrophe.

Which doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. TACO doesn’t necessarily mean that Trump chickens out from bad policies. Sometimes it means chickening out from good, or in any case less bad, policies. In this case he has chickened out in the face of MAGA hardliners, retreating from a policy change that would have limited the damage from anti-immigrant fanaticism.

Trump’s New Tech Friends Can’t Stop Embarrassing Themselves

The humiliation was on full display during the weekend’s military parade for the Army’s 250th birthday.

By Nitish Pahwa | June 17, 2025 1:17 PM

https://slate.com/technology/2025/06/trump-military-parade-us-army-pal
antir-coinbase-big-tech.html

On Saturday evening, as millions of Americans turned out for a nationwide spate of anti–Trump administration “No Kings” protests, the unpopular president arrived at the National Mall to stage his long-planned military parade for the Army’s 250th birthday (and Donald Trump’s 79th, and also Flag Day). It was a low-energy display: The audience numbers were underwhelming, and the planning was so shoddy that many attendees left even before the festivities had officially wrapped. The telecast of the party looked so wimpy that its corporate sponsors stood out all the more, and not in a good way: The branding for Trump-connected tech companies like crypto exchange Coinbase and data firm Palantir regularly juxtaposed with the piddling crowds and oversize tank processions that cost tens of millions of dollars to set up.

“Special thanks to our sponsor: Coinbase”
— Acyn (@Acyn) June 14, 2025
https://x.com/Acyn/status/1934018536571371719

Coinbase and Palantir weren’t the only Big Tech companies involved; defense contractors Oracle and Lockheed Martin were also prominent partners, along with combat-sports empire UFC, which is headed by Meta board member Dana White. But the presence of those first two firms made for a particularly in-your-face and cynical exercise, beyond the surreal optics of a supposedly distinguished government ceremony that featured blatant advertisements for private-sector firms. More pointedly, it was a sign of the extent to which Silicon Valley players are appeasing the Trump administration for favorable contracts and regulations—and how willing they are to debase and humiliate themselves in the process.

. . .

This weekend’s military exercise, then, may just be the latest illustration of how poorly Silicon Valley executives’ supplication to Trump has been working out for them. Elon Musk is out, and Tesla’s reputation has been tarnished. Meta’s Bosworth may now be enlisted in the Army, but the Big Tech giant is locked in a legal battle with the Trump administration’s Federal Trade Commission—a longtime case that Mark Zuckerberg explicitly tried to get Trump to drop. Google is still battling regulators over antitrust concerns. Apple hasn’t been able to sidestep Trump’s hypertargeted tariffs threats. Microsoft is losing foreign clients over its ties to Trump.

But these companies are no longer even pretending to care about the everyday consumer. For them, getting in good with Trump and earning some favors in the process is the single best business decision they can make—at least until Americans’ growing anger with the Trump regime boils over and targets them too.

Opinion: It’s long past time for Trump to grow up and leave the stage

Tanks roll in Washington D.C. while federal troops battle immigration advocates in Los Angeles. An assassin in the nation’s heartland — reportedly a Trump supporter — kills one Minnesota Democratic legislator and severely wounds another.

Sounds like a Hollywood political thriller. But this was real life last weekend. Our nation is at war domestically, and democracy is in peril in our great republic.

“No Kings Day” was a rousing success but the military spectacle was as lifeless as a funeral march. The silence was so profound that you could hear the creaks from the armored car tracks as the procession wound down Pennsylvania Avenue. The proceedings were so boring that the president appeared to doze off.

Trump’s political career started ten years ago this week, when he glided down the polished golden escalator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy for president. His first major act as a candidate was to deliver a speech demonizing Mexican immigrants. For ten years now, he has sowed chaos and confusion, keeping the passionate issues of race and immigration at a high boil to distract Americans from his abject inability to fix major systemic problems such as the spread of COVID-19 and the rise in prices for consumer goods.

Trump is like a kid who wants to play with toy soldiers and acts like a bully. He is a poor president, but a great showman. He has taken Shakespeare’s words to heart, knowing that “all the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”

Saturday was a big day, on which capital area residents sat out the military parade but millions across our great nation stood up for democracy in “No Kings” rallies. Meanwhile, the tinpot dictator orchestrated a Soviet-style parade of military hardware as he bullied immigrants and stood idly by as prices soared.

The situation isn’t any better overseas.

While Trump plays soldier boy here in America, Israel and Iran are trading missile volleys over Baghdad and Jerusalem. Trump went to the Middle East and returned with a flying palace gifted by an Arab potentate. All Americans got from his trip was a lousy war in a region that is key to our nation’s fossil fuel driven economy.

Things aren’t any better in Europe. The long, drawn-out war between Ukrainian heroes and Russian villains drags on despite the president’s boast that he could end the conflict within 24 hours.

Democrats Chase Trump’s Laser Pointer on Immigration
COMMENTARY
By J.T. Young
June 13, 2025
Democrats Chase Trump’s Laser Pointer on Immigration
The White House from Washington, DC, Wikimedia Commons

In his first term, Trump chased Democrats’ laser pointer; now, they’re chasing his. No issue illustrates this like immigration; it’s become the Democrats’ red dot. Whenever, wherever, and however Trump moves it, Democrats can’t help pouncing.

In his first term, Trump reacted to everything Democrats and the establishment media did. He couldn’t help himself, as though always compensating for having lost the 2016 popular vote. Forever taking their bait, his tweets poured forth. His frequently abrupt policy and political changes cost him on Obamacare – and popular support, too: Throughout his first term, Trump never had a favorable job approval rating in the RealClearPolitics Average of national polls.

In his second term, circumstances have markedly reversed. Democrats have been reacting to Trump since before he took office – if not since before he won it.

Even before his inauguration, Democratic leaders ran to microphones to announce their defiance. As they did, they picked politically questionable issues. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker proclaimed he was opening his state to more transgender surgeries; California Gov. Newsom proclaimed support for electric vehicle credits.

When Trump talked about a third term, even with the Constitution clearly blocking it, Democrats and the establishment media were apoplectic. Once in office, they were opposed to DOGE with equal vehemence.

In short, if Trump proposed it, Democrats opposed it. They couldn’t help taking the bait. However, of all the things Trump has pursued, nothing has exorcised Democrats like his crackdown on illegal immigration.

New Jersey’s governor, boldly proclaiming he was harboring an illegal immigrant, dared ICE to come…until ICE said they intended to. Democratic officials stormed a New Jersey ICE holding center. When a Milwaukee judge was arrested for helping an illegal immigrant avoid ICE capture, Democrats rallied around her, despite a judge’s job being one of impartiality on cases before the bench.

Wow, people protesting against one guy.

What would have been more meaningful to me? If instead of "orange man bad" protests about ... well, nothing, AFAIK .... they had been protesting against something specifically unconstitutional. Yanno, where were there people when the so-called Patriot Act was passed? Or when the Biden admin blatantly censored and gaslit everyone 24/7/365?

Here's something to protest: Trump's executive order banning birthright citizenship.

Haha....

Yeah. That's what my old man was telling me.

I said it must have been all the old hippies that didn't sell their souls and become CEOs and Politicians. They're so old they don't even realize that the Democratic Party ain't even their party anymore.

Pathetic.

MAGA’s spin on No Kings Day 2 was both insane and revealing

Donald Trump has not yet consolidated anything like absolute political power. But parts of our society — the Republican Party and supposedly independent institutions like CBS — are in effect living inside a bubble in which they operate as if he has. Within that bubble, a cult of personality around Trump has been built, a cult of personality worthy of Kim Jong Un. And to show their fealty to Dear Leader, Republicans must engage in bizarre rhetoric.

What are we to make of the completely unhinged things Republicans were saying in advance of the protests?

CNN has a good rundown of the craziness coming from leading Republicans in advance of No Kings Day 2. Mike Johnson, the speaker of the house, called them “hate America rallies” consisting entirely of the “pro-Hamas wing” and antifa. Scott Bessent, the treasury secretary — remember when people thought he was the adult in the room? — said that the demonstrations would involve “the most unhinged in the Democratic Party.” And Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, attacked the whole Democratic base: “The Democrat Party’s main constituency are made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals.”

These claims were all self-evidently absurd. So why make them? CNN says that it was a “weird strategy”: Calling grandmothers Hamas terrorists won’t convince anyone who isn’t already deep in the MAGA tank and will backfire as those not in the tank see the disconnect between this rhetoric and the reality of the protests.

But it all makes sense once you realize that what we have been seeing in operation isn’t the Trump administration’s strategy for dealing with its critics. It is, instead, the strategies of individual MAGA apparatchiks for dealing with He Who Must Be Obeyed.

Political scientist Xavier Marquez noted that autocracies that cultivate a cult of personality around their leader are prone to “flattery inflation.” Marquez’s examples go all the way back to the Emperor Caligula, but the logic has remained the same over the centuries.

Here’s how it works. The ruler’s lackeys and courtiers believe that they must praise him to the skies, proving their loyalty by offering paeans to his wisdom, character, and golf game. And they must continually up the ante.

How do you show your loyalty? By paying the costs of humiliation. The more grotesquely over the top your praise, the more credible it is as a signal of support for Dear Leader. Apparatchiks’ willingness to degrade themselves will hurt their reputation with other people. But for exactly that reason, it serves as proof of loyalty to the one man who counts, Donald Trump. The more appalling the self-abasement, the more effectively it will serve this purpose.

A similar process of self-reinforcement applies to telling lies that serve the autocrat’s ego. Call it “mendacity inflation.” Trump insists that he’s overwhelmingly popular and that only a lunatic fringe disapproves of his presidency. Well, to show loyalty his hangers-on must go further, declaring that grandmothers and parents pushing prams down 7th Avenue are illegal aliens and violent criminals. The humiliating absurdity is a feature, not a bug. Simply lying about demonstrators isn’t enough; to prove their MAGA mettle, people in Trump’s orbit must tell lies that are grotesque and ridiculous.

Again, what’s historically odd about this is that while Trump’s personal depravity may match that of historical autocrats, his power doesn’t. Call him Caligula, if you like, but he can’t order Senators — even Republican Senators — to commit suicide. (Dear historians: yes, I know that many of the stories told about Caligula were probably exaggerated.) He’s only able to act as if he has absolute power within a limited enclave, a bubble created by greed and fear.

Does it matter whether people are out there marching and carrying signs, even if they number in the millions? Well, there is a solid body of research by political scientists like Erica Chenoweth about the effects of civil resistance -- nonviolent shows of opposition to those controlling or attempting to control the government. The clear answer from this research is that demonstrations like No Kings Day can make a big difference. They are a testament to the depth and popularity of a movement, reassuring those opposed to a nation’s direction that many others share that same opposition.

Moreover, if a broad cross-section of society is represented in the demonstrations — and the crowds I saw consisted of a mix of seniors, middle-aged liberals, families with children, students and other unthreatening types — they can induce defections from the ruling regime, because the protestors can’t easily be “othered,” portrayed as strange and alien. So protests with a wide base of support can ultimately pierce the regime’s bubble. In fact, in the aftermath of the massive scale and breadth of the demonstrations, the MAGA propaganda machine has gone remarkably quiet, although Mike Johnson has claimed that the demonstrators were all Marxists.

And Trump himself is in denial. From CNN:

The president shows no sign of changing course. He called Saturday’s mass protests a “joke” and described them as “very small, very ineffective.” The people who took part were “whacked out,” Trump said.

“When you look at those people, those are not representative of the people of our country,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday.

Maybe Trump even believes that. But it was the opposite of the truth.

What the No Kings Day 2 demonstrations showed is that we continue to be a great nation, despite how Trump and his minions try to separate, divide, gaslight and intimidate us. Saturday’s marches were a giant step towards taking our country back.

I think Libtards really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get Trumptards saying they are against anti-fascism. Using antifa is giving Trumptards some distance. I genuinely think some Trumptards don't even know what antifa or anti-fascism stands for.

Your posts show just how ignorant and dishonest you guys are. Wow, all the evidence shows that 7 million protested. Two million more than last time, which was between 2.5 and 4.8 million. And yes Gilligan, I was there. See if you can pick me out.

Signym, who desperately wants to be seen as an honest poster, broker on these threads, can add this thread to the piles of evidence she is not. She can’t even get real about this protest. If you must lie comrade, you’re wrong and the opposite must be true. Of course, Jack sat at home. That’s what a big mouth does. Talk shit and watch others; the movers and shakers get it done. The only MAGA that showed up were those who are sick of Trump.

And yeah, I had a great time.

And it drew 4 million protesters. That’s a combined 10 or 11 million protesters with this protest. Both were huge successes. So, my post stands Gilligan.

Meanwhile, nobody actually went, and nobody can supply any actual proof that anyone showed up.

And at the end of the day, it all meant absolutely nothing.

What did you accomplish on Saturday, vicariously, through watching other retarded Baby Boomers scream all day into the void from their wheelchairs and walkers?

Oh... wait a minute...

Is that why he's jerking off to my picture everyday? Because of some claim he had against you for stealing his signature last week or something?

I didn't even bother asking what that was about or looking into it because Ted is retarded and I don't ever pay him any mind unless he breaks his promise to himself again and decides to start throwing me softballs to embarrass him just a little more.

So... You "stole" his signature. I guess he "stole" my image.

I'm wondering now if Ted is Muslim. It would explain a lot.

It would explain how he doesn't use American Idioms correctly. It would explain how he misspells everything and always uses the wrong version of a word when it is spelled 2 or more ways. It would explain how despite my teaching him for 3 years now the correct usage of an apostrophe he still can't wrap his head around the basics.

And it would certainly explain why he would feel that somebody else would feel that something was "stolen" from them when somebody else uses their image they put online for the world to see started obsessively using them in his own posts.

At the end of the day, what does Ted really have here? Basically no more than you took from him. It's a picture that's at least 10 years old. It's a thumbnail image of that picture to boot. There's not a single inch of my face visible in the image. Nothing that was in the background of that pic exists anymore in this timeline.

It's practically an emoji. And besides... Ted doesn't ever believe anything I post about any topic, so why should he even believe that the image he keeps re-posting while masturbating religiously to it is even me.

We all know it's me that he can't get out of his head everyday, but Ted could just be masturbating to the image of some random dude on the internet who's picture I stole.

That's pretty gay.

Why Trump Turned to the Sewer

The president’s disturbing, excremental propaganda campaign

By Anne Applebaum | October 20, 2025, 3:40 PM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/10/trump-no-kings-day-p
rotest-ai-poop/684621
/

Lieutenant Colonel Harald Jäger was in charge of a Berlin Wall checkpoint on the evening of November 9, 1989, when a garbled televised press conference convinced thousands of East Berliners that they were allowed to cross into West Germany. People ran to the checkpoint. They started shouting at Jäger, telling him to open the barrier, even though no one had told him about any changes.

Still, “when I saw the masses of East German citizens there, I knew they were in the right,” he told an interviewer, many years later. In another interview, he recalled, “At the moment it became so clear to me … the stupidity, the lack of humanity. I finally said to myself: ‘Kiss my arse. Now I will do what I think is right.’” He opened the barrier and people started walking through.

Had these events taken place a few months earlier, Jäger might have kept the barrier shut. But the “masses of East German citizens” who had spent that autumn marching against dictatorship in East Berlin, Leipzig, and other East German cities had shaped his understanding of events. Watching them, he understood that most of his countrymen opposed the regime and hated the Wall. If everyone was against it, he no longer wanted to defend it.

The differences between the “No Kings” demonstrations that took place across the United States on Saturday and the East German protests 36 years ago are too numerous to list. I saw no riot police at the protest I watched in Washington, D.C. Nor did the demonstrations in the autumn of 1989 feature animal costumes, cute homemade signs, or people dancing the Macarena. But they shared at least one goal: to remind the government’s supporters and enablers that the public is unhappy. The majority of Americans object to President Donald Trump’s politicization of justice, his militarization of ICE, and his usurpation of congressional power. Eventually some of those presidential supporters and enablers might, like Jäger the border guard, be persuaded to side with the majority and help bring this assault on the rule of law to an end.

The people in the White House know this too, and they reacted accordingly. Trump, the successor to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, posted an AI-created video of himself as a fighter pilot, wearing a crown, flying over an American city, and dumping shit onto American protesters. The point was not subtle: Trump wanted to mock and smear millions of Americans, literally depicting them covered in excrement, precisely so that none of his own supporters would want to join them.

Mockery isn’t Trump’s only tool, nor was it the only one that his team has borrowed from other autocrats and would-be autocrats around the world. Just as the Chinese leadership once described participants in popular, broad-based Hong Kong protests as “thugs” and “radicals,” the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said before Saturday’s protest that the only people protesting would be “Marxists” or “pro-Hamas.” Just as Russian President Vladimir Putin has called democracy protesters “paid agents of the West”—he once even claimed that Hillary Clinton, then the U.S. secretary of state, had sent “a signal” to “some actors in our country”—Ted Cruz, among others, insinuated that the millions of American protesters were paid by George Soros. A host of Republicans tried to portray the protesters as dangerous or treasonous, or else, paradoxically, as elderly and ineffective.

For those using the oldest tools in the authoritarian playbook, the nature of the smear is unimportant. What matters is the intention behind it: Don’t answer your critics. Don’t argue with them. Don’t let them win over anyone else. Describe them as dangerous radicals even when they wear frog costumes. Imply, without evidence, that they were bribed to speak out, because there can’t possibly be any sincere idealists who criticize the Party and its Leader out of a genuine desire to help other Americans. Dump AI-generated sewage on their heads to discourage anyone else from joining them. And if they keep coming out, make the messages even harsher.

We are just at the very beginning of this familiar, predictable cycle, and we know from the experience of other countries that it can lead in many directions. Protests could fizzle out, as often happens, because mocking, angry, and, in this case, scatological propaganda discourages people from joining them. Or the official reaction to them could turn uglier: Anyone who objects to the Party or the Leader will be described as not really American, not eligible for the rights of a citizen, not really entitled to protest at all. In authoritarian countries, state institutions—tax authorities, regulators, political police—would then begin to pursue them. That isn’t supposed to happen in America, but then, this isn’t an ordinary American political cycle.

Alternatively, the people who showed up on Saturday might be inspired to do more. For years, Americans at protests have been chanting, “This is what democracy looks like.” But the No Kings marches are actually what free speech looks like. Democracy looks different. Democracy requires organized politics, support for candidates, the creation of broad coalitions. Protests can only create enthusiasm, spread goodwill, and inspire people to dedicate time and energy to real political change. And the people who created the sewage video knew that too.
