If we're going to just blindly march off this cliff, might as well have a good time while doing it.

I love this Renn dude. I've even watched videos of his regarding topics that I'm not interested in at all, just because I find him that entertaining.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I guess I didn't find him as entertaining as you did.

So here's me, taking an entertaining video seriously:

He mostly conflates AI with chatbots. I see a lot wrong with chatbots but a lot more wrong with AI, and it's the GIGO variety.

For example: Show a picture of a man sitting in a chair, looking at a piece of paper with an agonized look on his face.
Have an AI translate it into words, then take those words and make a picture of them. Repeat that a dozen or so times and what you wind up with is a picture of a formal room with no people. No creativity. No spark. No meaning.

Translate that to AI populating the "large language“ models that it itself learns from?

That WE learn from?

Yeah... My bad. Admittedly not the starter video for his channel.

Usually he is front and center for most of it, and it's a lot more lighthearted. This was a very strange one for him.

But I don't know if you noticed it was basically a 10 minute lead up to the joke?

He just showed you some of the most nightmare fuel AI slop out there, often right after filming scense where he's being cute with it and telling it how nice it is. He says he's interviewing a Psychologist and he's just talking to AI that claims it graduated University in California. (To which he immediately replies by asking her if that means she's gay and then he gets lightly admonished for it).

He eventually becomes so dependent on it that he's got it dressing him up in ridiculous outfits before going to WalMart where he starts calling it Mom in public and introducing it to random strangers as Mom.

Then you get one of the tech billionaires saying that their plan is to turn "Intelligence" into a necessity for every one of us and charge us all a monthly fee for it as if it were as important as water and electricity.

After he had the AI explain to him what that meant, he said "oh... that sounds like a terrible future, doesn't it", to which the AI assured him that it was a great thing and there's nothing to worry about. And he immediately went back to smiling because AI told him everything was going to be alright. He even did that thing where they jump in the air and kick their feet together as he walked off.

It's all a joke. At least he's making light of it. His entire channel focuses on a niche brand of comedy, that's mostly video game related or adjacent. I haven't seen all of them since at least half the stuff he covers isn't anything I'm interested in, but of everything I've seen him do, this was literally the only one I saw with dark subject matter.

You don't have to talk me out of using it.

I've found the rudimentary AI that they've shoved into Google's search to be pretty useful at times. Especially since Google search itself sucks so bad these days.

But that's about it. Helps me find old news stories or episodes of old shows I remember. I know that even without spending money there would have been ways to use AI to assist with making my project, but I didn't want to do that. Hell.. I had to actually search google to figure out how to turn off the AI in their version of Word and Excel because they shoved that right in there at some point without asking and then one day you're doing a somewhat repetitive task that you've done many times before without any issue and now you're getting semi-transparent popups all over the place suggesting auto-fills. Not infrequently either. All the freakin time.

And I was glad that it happened. Because I thought to myself, how did somebody design this AI to be the textbook definition of not just one, but at least three of my largest pet peeves. No. I do not need, nor did I ever solicit your suggestions. I do not want or need anybody lording over my shoulder while I'm doing work. Especially not when the work is unpaid and just a hobby that I enjoy. By the way... what the fuck are you even doing in here looking at all my shit when I never invited you in the first place?

For me? That was a great experience. Just like immediately losing $40 at a slot machine my very first 2 minutes in my very first casino while my buddy sat next to me and won $300 was.

I don't want to hate on AI. Especially since I just assume that it is going to remember every single thing that every single person has ever written about it or said about it within earshot of a device with a microphone on it.

Consider me A.I. Neutral.

But at the same time, I don't want to have that kind of relationship with AI for anything that I really spend time on like my project. I figure doing something like that would be the way that I end up inviting it into more of my life to do more things for me. And I know way more than I need to about myself to know that I don't even want to be a part of that long enough to even have a taste of what life with A.I. in it might be vs. what I already know what life without A.I. in it is.

Ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

If you're not paying for something worthwhile, then you're the product.

I don't like asking human beings for help doing things I have no problem doing on my own. Somehow, someway, everybody that is using it regularly will end up paying a price for it. Sounds to me like quite a few may already have.
