If Schiavo was shown to be capable of a meaningful recovery
The CT scans (severe brain loss) and EEGs (flat) ruled that out a long time ago. I can understand why her parents refused to accept the hard facts. But in time they may realize that clinging to irrational hope (and libeling her husband) to assuage their emotions only created more suffering for everyone, without exception.

As for 'Conscience', have you considered that Michael Schiavo was answering God's call to let her rest in peace?

Hero and Conscience;
Wow. Just wow. Time for both of you to change the tinfoil in your hats.

Funny though, I don't seem to hear any admissions of error from those who "knew" she was conscious.

Time to put this issue to bed. Both sides are certain that their positions are unassailable despite evidence to the contrary. And like Michael Jackson, this news item has been worn threadbare. Plus, the arguments from the side that didn't get their way are becoming increasingly shrill.

But hey, there's no important issues to deal with. US servicemen and women aren't dying in Iraq with no discernable exit strategy. Economic thinktanks from both parties aren't issuing joint statements predicting economic armogeddon. After we get done worrying the last shreds of flesh and dignity from Terri Schiavo's corpse we can all sit back and watch another episode of "Dancing with the Stars."

The more I get to know people the more I like my dogs.

I'm with Hkcavalier on this. The politicization of this issue is appalling and disgusting. This was a highly personal, and should have been completely private, event. The American public agrees, in an overwhelming majority. Having *anyone* other than immediate family and physicians involved is a gross violation of decency, and having politicians get involved so as to make political hay is so far beyond the pale that I can't come up with words to describe my level of disgust. I can only hope that there's a special hell for such hypocrites. We should all MYOB.

While I absolutely agree that the individual decisions like these should be personal and private; at the same time, let it not be forgotten that both sides wanted maximum exposure on this - in the courts and in public media - when they couldn't get *their* way. We should also note that medical issues like these ones - perhaps not this exact one - are nevertheless society issues and family issues that should be discussed at large. The fact that a rather "simple" issue like this can be debated ad-infinitem without a clear understand or resolution just shows that it needs even more discussion than not. Talking about these things have practical value within a society and at the human level. Not only on "what does it mean to be alive?", but we should be paying close and careful attention to how our neighbor answers these questions. We might not agree with each other at all, but it reveals what our individual base core beliefs are - partisanship and religions aside.

Priest stating "Autopsy Does Not Change Schiavo's Murder"

Quote:

"No details of this autopsy change the moral evaluation of what happened to Terri. Her physical injuries and disabilities never made her less of a person. No amount of brain injury ever justifies denying a person proper humane care. That includes food and water.

...

"A person with a 'profoundly atrophied' brain needs profound care and love. Terri did not die from an atrophied brain. She died from an atrophy of compassion on the part of her estranged husband and those who helped him to have her deliberately killed."

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Since thousands of ppl die every year in the USA from lack of basic healthcare, and hundreds of thousands die worldwide from lack of food and water, I guess Terri Schiavo should be the exception. Interesting.

I don't know about Terry, but I'm all for thinning out the herd a little.

And the spin continues. Jeb Shrub has asked for an investigation into the original circumstances surrounding Terri Schiavo's collapse and when the first call was made to EMS.

Assuming Mr. Schiavo has any money left it is time for him to go on the offensive and file civil suits naming the Schindlers and Jeb Shrub individually for their interference. Politicians and whiners never pay attention until you hit them in the wallet.

The more I get to know people the more I like my dogs.

If he starts a fund to sue, I will gladly donate to my maximum capacity.

He could be any one of us. Picked out by powerful interests to be targeted for political gain.

Not a single one of us, just trying to manage our obscure existances, has the resources to defend themselves against political machinery that intends to destroy us.

The Eye of Sauron has turned toward Michael Schiavo.

I can't really speak for Terry because I didn't know her. I do know that she was once pretty and vibrant, healthy and very into her appearance. She is the same age as me. And I can tell you if someone showed me a tape of my(future)self as bedridden, heavy, incoherent, speaking jibberish, with no chance for change, I would absolutely not want to live that way.
