I don't mean to be mean, 'cause no matter where you go, there you are. But I'm through pussyfootin' around. Here it is.

Do we live in a democracy? "..and to the republic, for which it stands..." I guess that says it.
On global warming: We're toast, it's just gonna take us a while to pop up.
Should people be allowed to burn the flag? Hey, it's a stupid thing to do, but in the end I don't really give a s*@t.
Should God be allowed in public schools? I think he/she already knows everything, but the door's open, as far as I'm concerned.
On being gay: whatever floats your boat ( although, anyone, male or female, who wouldn't want a piece of Salma Hayek has got a screw loose).
On Janet Jackson showing her boob: I find nipple rings unattractive, so yeah, it was wrong.
Are there massive conspiracies afoot? Hell yes! And anyone who doesn't think so are the living proof that they are!!!
Is Saddam better off in jail? You bet, he finally gets to wear clean underwear and can eat all the Doritos he wants ( I saw the pictures, nay sayers!).

That's all the really important stuff I can think of to address for now.
What are everyone else's core beliefs?

Belay that! I don't even want a response! If you don't fully agree with me, you're wrong, and can go to Hell.
( But since I don't really believe in a Heaven or Hell, I guess that ain't sayin' much )

All fired up and most un-Buddah like Chrisisall

As much as some don't like it, "We the people", excercising the franchise, usually get it right, eventually.

Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others. (Thanks, Winston, for the quote)

My right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

Arguing about religion or politics is fruitless...but often fun.

There really are evil people in the world. They should be ended as soon as possible.

History is just that...history. There are no do-overs. Learn from it, but move on.

I am above noticing such poseurs. [frog accent]I fart in their general direction. [/frog accent]

I'm more curious about the fact that, apparently, no one else here has any core beliefs.

OK, core beliefs. I'm not going to deliberate on this long, so consider it an off the cuff, free association of sorts.

I believe in an inverse relationship between the intelligence of members of a group, and the number of the group.

I believe that the majority is always wrong.(see previous belief)

I believe in the power of faith (and sometimes religion), but that every bit of that power exists in our own minds - and nowhere else.

I believe in standing up to bullies, especially the political sort.

To be continued....

Hey everybody . I've been basically just ghosting the RWED for a while. Haven't had much to say that would be new since someone usually writes what I'm thinking. But I'm looking for a distraction from work and figured I'd free flow for a bit here...

Catfish are an abomination. I must catch and eat as many of them as I can. Trout and bass are to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

The Pac-10 is the best conference in NCAA Division I sports (even, grudgingly, USC).

The Big One won’t happen just because I’m a Dodgers and a Giants fan.

First, do no harm.

It is a quirk of fate that I was born male, heterosexual, and an American and that I enjoy the privileges associated with each of those states. I did nothing to earn that privilege. If I was born white and rich I would add that to the mix as well.

I am more at risk from home-grown supremacists/separatists than I am from foreign terrorists.

Well Geezer, I haven't posted here b/c certain situations in my life have made me start to seriously doubt many of my core beliefs; I have somehow ended up in a bad place. A bad place that even my blogs don't begin to tell.

The unfortunate fact is, I really don't know where I nor my core beliefs stand right now.

That's at least my reason.

I have no core beliefs other than the belief that I have no core beliefs (and now for my party piece my head will explode in existential angst) …

Actually, I believe in:

The beauty of TV (even crap TV)

The glory of film (even subtitled foreign madness)

The genius of the written word – specifically, Mr Michael Chabon, Mr John Irving, Miss Jane Austen and Mr T Hardy (and many more)

I don’t give a good gorram about much else, although politics is always like to rile me.

As far as gender, sex, the right to life etc. goes, I reckon each man has enough to contend with keeping his own conscience off his back without other people butting in and trying to dictate the terms of his existence, guess what I’ve trying to say is “live and let live”.

Do I get to write this and not have people criticize b/c I didn't provide links?

I used to think people were simply uninformed, now I know it's mostly on purpose. And a related item, facts seldom change closed minds.

If you are trying to do business and the other party is schmoozing you, be wary. If it was a good deal for you, they wouldn't be schmoozing.

Forgiving a wrong frees the soul, but it makes bad policy, as do revenge, hate and fear.

This world would be an Eden if more people ran on self-interest instead of greed.

Always read original documents. You can't count on second-hand reports (especially the media) to portray things truthfully.

What else -

Always call twice and ask the same question. People who answer phones may not come up with a complete off-the-cuff answer. Two different answers when added together are more likely correct.

The time to do what needs to be done is NOW, not at a more convenient time. A related item: when faced with too much to do and not enough time, living things come first as they can have a limited shelf-life.

Always keep promises.

I can completely empathize with SoupCatcher's first statement, though I'd be a bit less species-biased (they all need to be caught and eaten, yumm yumm yumm!).

However, I have to vigorously protest the second statement as a perversion of the natural order of things. How on god's green earth can you be a fan of both the Giants and the Dodgers? The Dodgers are the blue embodiment of baseball evil, whereas the Giants.......... well damn, the Giants are stinking up the league bigtime.

(perfessergee grew up in northern California, and he swears the Giants are not as bad as they look).

I've seen the first three seasons of Buffy, and while they strike me as wittier, LOL funnier, and much more fun than DA, DA hits me on a gut level more, the way Firefly does. I like to laugh, but when a show pulls tears outta me too, I feel like it's real to me.
Not that the Buffster didn't make the occasional tear roll, just so keenly aware that her world is fantastic, what with people comin' back from the dead and all...

My core beliefs:

Christianity is Truth.

Tolerance means letting other people hold their own opinions, even if they conflict with yours.

Tolerance is not that "what you believe is true for you, what I believe is true for me" nonsense. That's subjective pluralism, and it's bunch of hooey.

Guns do not have the ability to kill people all by themselves.

States with less restrictive gun laws have less crime.

Banning guns would have the same effect as banning pot has had--none.

The abortion debate will go on forever because one side is arguing about freedom of choice while the other side argues about the right to life. No progress can be made because they aren't even talking about the same thing!!!

I'm a conservative not because I was raised a Christian, nor because I'm rich, but because I think they have better ideas.

If you haven't served in the military, you're not qualified to comment on it.

Unless you have been in combat, don't arm-chair quaterback the things people do there. Until you have looked down the sights of an M-4 carbine with the firm conviction that it's him or you, you have no idea what combat is like.

You aren't really living until you have been in a situation in which you were convinced you'd die.

And I supposedly have a pop up blocker with my DSL (whatever that stands for).

Another core belief: If the world is destroyed, it will be because of a computer glitch!!!

Heh heh. . This might take a bit of explaining.

[hijack thread]
Well, I grew up in the hills across the 5 freeway from Dodger Stadium. We listened to games on the radio all the time - just the sound of Vin Scully's voice is enough to get me all nostalgic.

So long time Dodger fan. But not a Giants hater. I think it has everything to do with how non-existent the Giants were as a team when I was growing up (late seventies, early eighties). I can't remember anyone getting excited when they came to town. Atlanta was more of a rival team. And it was always exciting when teams like the Reds and Pirates came to town. But the Giants, not so much. So it was a bit of a surprise to me to find out how much the Giants fans hated the Dodgers (nowadays the rivalry is definitely back on and both sides get up for the games).

About ten years ago I moved to the Bay Area. I love listening to baseball on the radio so it was either the Giants or A's. We never really paid attention to the American League growing up so that made the decision easier. After a couple of years of doing this I became a Giants fan.

But I'll always have a soft spot for the Dodgers.

The only time it's a problem is when they play each other. At that point, I usually root for the team that has the best chance of advancing to the post season. Neither team looks great this year. That sweep by Oakland over the weekend was painful (at least the Giants won strong today). It's just one of those years where runs are hard to come by and no lead is safe. But it's cool to see all the young guns they're bringing up from Fresno.

I'm Buffy the vampire slayer. And you are -? Chrisisall

Ohmigosh, Chrisisall, you gotta watch West Wing - if you want tears, you want laughter and you want intelligent story lines - Its gone to pot since Aaron Sorkin stopped writing it but I'd say that the first 2 sseries are up there with Firefly (though of course very different)!!

Heh heh. . This might take a bit of explaining.

[hijack thread]
Well, I grew up in the hills across the 5 freeway from Dodger Stadium. We listened to games on the radio all the time - just the sound of Vin Scully's voice is enough to get me all nostalgic.

Soupcatcher,

Since you've already engaged in a hijack of this thread (meaning I can divert blame), then I feel no guilt and might as well follow along: I think I did your personal track in reverse. I grew up listening to Lindsay Nelson and the Giants on the radio, during the years when the Dodgers kept kicking the proverbial butts of my boys. But, after I got Piled Higher and Deeper, I took a job down here in LA, where for the last decade I've been gratified to watch my boys kick some blue butt - well, most of the time until this year. If Lindsay were still alive, he'd be pleased to hear Vin Scully still announcing, and so am I - he may call the Dodgers, but damn, he's good!

ImEarly, it's not the photo, so you can put it back! The problem is the line, it's too long for those of us set at 1024 x 768. You could put a space in the middle, or better yet use something like this...

Should(if I'v done this right) look like this...

CONNORFLYNN

My core beliefs:

The people should control the government, not the other way around.

Eminent Domain should be abolished.

Parental rights should not take a backseat, UNLESS a child's health is at stake.

"Acceptable losses" should not be a term used freely. Every life is important.

Governments and businesses should be held accountable for their actions.

Anyone who makes more money then they can possibly ever spend in a lifetime should take it upon themselves to change at least 1 less advantaged family's life.

Noone should have more cars then they have people living in a household.

If you can afford a "Driver", you have too much money and should be required to drive your own lazy ass about, and donate the money to change someones life.

Same Sex Marriage should be legal.

All drugs should be legalized. If it's legal, it can be regulated. Those with drug problems can get help faster.

Prisons should be for Violent criminals and those who commit crimes against children. Non-violent criminals can be aided by education and learning of self-respect.

Oil companies should be required to invest 25% of all Gross profit towards towards finding new renewable energy resources and 25% towards social security for our elderly.

The 2 party system should be abolished and no lawyer should be allowed to take office.

Religion should be a personal belief, not a political agenda.

War should only come as a last resort. When it does come, our troops should be protected from being ostracized by the Main Stream Media.

A governmental Bill should not have anything attached to it, that doesn't specifically have something to do with it.

Local governments should support local businesses, not bring in bigger businesses to put the little businesses out of business (say that 3 times fast ;) )

Consumerism is evil incarnate.

I believe in a person's right to own guns and bear them. I don't believe civilians should have the right to own automatic weapons. You don't need 30 shots to kill a deer or protect your family. If you own a gun, before you are granted the priviledge of having it..you MUST prove, you know how to use it proficiently and safely and have acceptable safe storage for it.

Children who live in poverty should ALWAYS have hope that they can be all they can be. Despair should not be the only option open to them.

Noone with the Surname of Clinton or Bush should ever be allowed to hold office again.

Thats just a few. I need to think a little more on that..hehe

You give me too much credit, my knowledge is merely experimental.

*joke free zone*
I agree with all, but this is the single most important thing on this planet. That, and that they should not have to fear being shot at.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

[humor-free zone] My significant core belief: There is a real universe, and we know it through our senses. (That pretty much does way with subjectivism, relativism, and religion.) [/humor free zone]

DANFAN

God wants me to do my best to take care of my life before I come to him with my hands out.

Legislation should be used to give each person the greatest degree of freedom without impinging on someone else's freedom. The unspoken view that legislation is about limiting freedom instead of protecting freedom is at the root of many problems in this country today.

Morality and faith are things that you should teach, not legislate.

On a related topic, I just don't get homosexuality. But I don't have to. Let 'em marry. And hug. And kiss. Whatever. I'll let God figure it out.

God doesn't need Bush's, the Republicans', or the Democrats' help in figuring it out. Those guys need to stop passing laws intended to help God figure it out.

Seafood is wonderful. Dark chocolate is even better.

Bicycling is a miracle drug. It cures anything wrong in your attitude.

My wife is the best woman in the world. After 25 years, I'm more convinced of that than ever.
