Just an observation, really.
Where I work there are two diametetrically opposed dudes, one a co-worker, and one a customer.

My customer goes on and on about Bush like he's actually Damien from the Omen- not like he is, he IS! And this is the era when the world will destroy itself with capitalism and corporate connections to the CIA and the NSA and ZOWIE and what have you. He'd give Mel Gibson's character from the movie 'Conspiracy Theory' a serious run for his money. He is knowledgeable enough to get you going, and then at some point or other, he loses you as the fantastic nature of his theories go on. And he tells it all with a twinkle in his eye, as if he's letting you in on a big secret-*hush*, they might be watching right now!!!

In contrast, my co-worker counters every accusation of governmental responsibility concerning morality, war, or simple ineptness with "If you don't want government- find an island". He sees no wrong ever comitted by the CIA in promoting world wide Democracy, and sees no error at Kent State, or Viet-Nam, etc. And absolutly no room for improvement anywhere within the governmental structure of this country. He states that all is working as well as it can, and if it could be any better, it would be already. "If you get pulled out of your life as a suspected terrorist, you probably did something wrong, and in the off-chance that it was a mistake, it's one man's sacrifice to ensure freedom for the rest of us". I thought that was a particularly interesting philosophical take on things. And he talks over you, hurrying, as if he HAS to cut down your arguments quickly, or he'll start to bleed.

I hope I'm somewhere in the middle of where these two wannabe World History Professors are.
But I feel that they do serve a purpose, though...although I can't seem to think what purpose that might be....

Oh yeah! That the edge may not be the most desirable place.....

Any comments from the peanut gallery?

America loves a winner!

Seems you're caught between 2 extremes. For one, I can't see what sets folks off on W so much. I'm not keen on everything he does, but on the other hand, I like him much more than any viable alternative.

We do need Government, but I see it as a necessary evil. Guess this argument goes back to the founding of this country....Federal control vs State's Rights.

I've come to realize a few things in my time here. Much of what we were taught ( Kent State ) has been exaggerated by those who'd have us think one way. It was a really bad course of events, but nothing compared to what happend at Concord, MA. in 1775.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I agree. But while its nothing like what was happening in Concord of 1775, it has something to do with what was happening in Pennsylvania in 1794.

America has never claimed perfection. That is not even the goal. "More perfect" is our self-imposed limitation and an ackowledgement that it can and will change for the better, even if we take a step back now and then.

Pistols at dawn, 15 paces ?

At least then you'd only have to listen to one of em... of course, if they're BOTH terrible shots, you might have to take matters into your own hands.

So bring a shotgun.

Yeah, when I hear the 'Bush ia a real life Damian' nut, I suddenly feel all conservative and such, wanting to take my conspiracy theories down a few notches.
And when the 'U.S. can and has done no wrong' wanker starts goin' off, I suddenly want to run to a U.S Out Of Iraq rally.

In the true way of the Shaolin, I prize peace above all else.
In another way of the Shaolin, I keep wanting them to take a poke at me, so I could Kung-Fu both their asses. Then I'd have peace.

Frem, are you using that shotgun over there?

The path of the righteous man is beset on both sides by the thorns of ignorance and psychosis...

One must walk softly, and carry a big stick...

And thus if the chirping of the ignorant or the incoherent babbling of the psychotic Beginneth to give thy a headache, thoust can raise thy mighty rod above ones head and declare:
"Shuteth the up"
Then bring forth much fury and vengeful anger upon the heads of the unrighteous, and they shall know peace!

So endeth the lesson...

"Make me one with everything."

At least you've got some sort of balance around you. It'd be worse if all you heard was one side, ad infinitem. I once worked with a guy who put anti-abortion propaganda on all the company bulletin boards (supposedly reserved for company notices and such)and hung his cube with pictures of aborted fetuses. One day there was a News of the Weird piece about a guy who married his horse and he told me that that was what gay people did. When I comlained about his proselytizing, I was told that our diversity was our strength.

Could you maybe lock them both in the break room and let them duke it out? Now that's entertainment.

I don't know....
That would be like mixing matter and anti-matter in a cardboard NES-cell....

I look at it this way: If one of the deities (cosmic muffin or hairy thunderer, doesn't matter much which one) decrees that it's time for the world to end, then it's time. And it's not like the rest of us would be around to blame you.

'Course, you'd want to check your calendar and make sure there was nothing else big coming up . . .Maybe after the 30th.
