Its nice to see the Senate working so hard to get the Roberts confirmation over and done with. My last count was something like 77-21, but until the official results come in we wont know for certain.

Works out like so. 77 voting for Roberts because either they agree with him or can't find anything wrong with him. A dozen or so voting against him because they plan to run for President or at least want to keep the option open. A few voting against him becaue they can't vote for a person nominated by a Republican regardless of that person's qualifications, experiance, or ability. One voting no because he is drunk. And finally one voting no, even though he initially planned to vote yes, after first indicating he would vote no and cautioning us not to think his no vote means he opposes the Roberts nomination in theory, he just can't support giving ther President a "blank check" on future nominations.

What all this really means is that Mr. Roberts can celebrate by going to the Washington DC premire of 'Serenity'. So it all works out.

Exactly! By the way, in the end it was 78 in favor and 22 partisan hack democrats against.

ROBERTS: Thank you. Thank you very much.

Let me begin by thanking Justice John Paul Stevens for being here today. In December, Justice Stevens will mark 30 years of service on the court.

It's a great honor to take the oath from him. And it will be a great privilege for me to sit next to him on the bench on Monday.

Thank you, Mr. President, for nominating me. There is no way to repay the confidence you have shown in me other than to do the best job I possibly can do. And I will try to do that every day.

And thank you for the remarkable team that you assembled to assist me throughout this process. I benefited greatly from the wisdom, judgment and plain hard work of Ed Gillespie, Senator Thompson, Harriet Miers, Bill Kelley and everyone on the team. I am very grateful to each and every one of them.

Joss Whedon and the cast and crew of 'Serenity'. You movie is an inspiration to all who will see it. And to all the Browncoats and Democratic Senators out there...I can kill you with my brain.

Thank you.
