A true hero in the civil rights movement. This woman's courage to face arrest for equality helped to spark a revolution that awakened America from judging someone on the basis of their skin color. She will go down in history as an individual that helped change the world for the better. This woman's courage changed the course of history. May she rest in peace.

Rosa Parks defined an era in American history. She never intended to be a hero, and yet somehow that's how she ended up.

A courageous woman has left a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Yes but many of the gains of the Civil Rights
movement have been eroded ever since the
criminal Reaganites took over. That eroding
continued with Clinton and Bush. For the record
Bill Clinton was Gov of Arkansas for 12 years
with 2 years out of office in the early years
then he got back in. He gained a reputation for
being able to massage the State Legislature into
doing what he wanted. When Bill Clinton took
over Arkansas there was no Civil Rights Statute.
Over a decade later when he left for the White
House there was still NO Civil Rights Statute
in Arkansas. So all his two-faced posing with
Afro-Americans and using Rosa Parks during a
State of the Union address was just that empty
b.s.!!

Howard, I don't agree with everything in your post, but I'll give you credit as a liberal who is at least not hypocritical on the issue of Slick Willy. Unlike most liberals.

Rosa Parks deserves the honor of not having some absurd Left wing myrmidon hijack a thread meant to praise her courage. Thanks Rosa. As a son of the South, it's hard for me to comprehend the world has changed for the better in such a short time.

There is so much wrong in that one sentence that I struggle at where to begin. Reagan was a great American, and was awsome for this country. Only those who wish to perpetuate the womb to tomb Social state which punishes the achievers and rewards the lazy would come up w/ such a mindless and devisive charge.

Okay, okay, okay!

Let's drop the thread-hijacking right now! No more grinding political axes -- and that includes "balancing the books" when someone else does. If someone insists on being a political troll on this thread, I recommend just ignoring them, and returning to subject.

Subject: Rosa Parks.

I'm half of a salt-and-pepper marriage; My wife has told me stories of a cross-country road trip she took as a small child; being raised in California, she had no experience at Jim Crow law, and being naturally defiant, she deliberately took a drink from the wrong fountain in Mississippi! Her mother nearly had a heart attack. That's the world as it was.

Some have criticized Rosa Parks for having defied the law on purpose because local civil rights forces needed a test case. I'm not one of them. It takes courage to put your freedom and physical safety on the line, even if you've figured the odds beforehand. It would have been easy enough for a cop to get violent towards a small black woman who was breaking race law.

Good bye Rosa, and Godspeed.

So your definition of a "Great American"
is a moron puppet who was the window dressing
for an administration that did the folloiwng:

1. Support Apartheid South Africa...so much
for your empty two faced words for Rosa
Parks. Reagan and his cronies armed and
supported the racist regime in South
Africa.
2. The Reagan admin was responsible for the
single most extensive campaign of
international terrorism the world has ever
seen. From the death squad murder of at
least 300,000 innocent people in Central
America to arming and financing the Islamic
fundamentalist to wage war in Afghanistan
among them Osama Bin Laden.
3. To supplying Saddam Hussein with chemical
weapons and siding with Saddam in the Iran-
Iraq war.
4. To arming and assisting Suharto in Indonesia
and extending the occupation and genocide
in East Timor.

plus so MUCH MORE!!

You people are the tasteless ones for taking
Rosa Park's name in vein while glorifying a
President who rolled back Civil Rights gains
and supported the racialist regime in South
Africa.

THIS is what this thread should have been about. Rosa Parks, an American that-regardless of political motivation- changed our country in ways that historians will analyze for centuries to come.

How the holy living fuck did this thread get hijacked to "blame Clinton," "Reagan was the greatest," Reagan was the crappiest," etc.? Show some respect for Ms. Parks, and get this thread back to where it belongs: Honoring the dead who made a lasting contribution to America.

Godspeed, Rosa Parks- take any seat in Heaven you want.

HOWARD, thanks for showing us how classless and void of any coherent thought patterns one can be. It must really suck to be so filled w/ irrational hatred that you can't even leave one thread alone which honors a true American hero.

RIP, Rosa. At least some of us learned from your example.

There is I assure you NOTHING irrational
about anything I have stated.

As I have stated the tasteless offence is
to associate the criminal Reagan and his
criminal regime that supported precisely
the racism Mrs Parks fought against.

All you care about is official heroes you
have NO appreciation for the substance
of content.

You have not disproven a single fact that I
have stated for every fact I have stated is
beyond all reasonable doubt and backed up
by a mountain of hard evidence.

It is utterly sickening to speak of Ronald
Reagan a backer of South Africa's Apartheid
and wars against three other African nations
in the same breath as Rosa Parks.

It is not I who is driven by hate or irrational
mindset but YOU and your fellow ignorant ultra
reactionaries.

You appreciate and get nothing about the
substance of the Civil Rights Movement.

If you did you would have no truck with anyone
tasteless enough to admire, praise or laud
Ronald Reagan whose administration murdered
300,000 people in Central American. Armed proxy
wars in Africa that killed at least 3 million
people and did all they the Reaganites could to
maintain the racist regime in South Africa.

YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO MORAL RIGHT TO PRETEND TO
ADMIRE ROSA PARKS.

YOU CARE NOTHING FOR WHAT THE CIVIL RIGHTS
MOVEMENT STOOD FOR AND WAS ABOUT.

NOR THE FACT THAT REAGAN ROLLED BACK AND
DISSOLVED MANY OF THE GAINS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS
MOVEMENT.

You people are a disgrace to name of the
American people!!

It was precisely people like you who stood
screaming "nigger!" and "commie!" from the
sidewalk back in the day!!

What you have stated may or may not be accurate; that is not the point. What you have done is hijacked a thread in an inappropriate way, which is tasteless. This is a thread to honor Rosa, not discuss Reagan's impact on the civil rights legacy. If you wanted to do that, you should have started another thread, titled (appropriately enough) "Reagan/Clinton civil rights legacy," and gone on from there.

I don't know, you sound pretty hateful to me right here.

You useless, baseless, ignorant little troll.

My class just finished To Kill a Mockingbird, and one of the ways I set it up is to show them pictures of life for blacks in the 1930's, and then show then what happened during the 1960's, and ask them to reflect on the way things are in America now. Rosa Parks' actions on that bus helped race relations in more ways than you could possibly imagine. It led to the bus boycott that, among other things, convinced a 26-yr old preacher to take charge of the civil rights movement (a preacher that is one of my personal heros- I too, have a dream). Because later leaders weren't the shining light that they could have been gives you no right to come into this thread and take respect away from the one person that deserves it more than so many others. You make me sick.

Actually, I think you just disgraced many British folk by your words in this thread. If you can't show respect to the dead, you don't deserve any yourself.

Oh? Which makes them worse than you, who scream "death to Israel!" and "fascist!" in every thread? You sir, have zero social skills.

Sir:

You have no moral right to tell me who I can or can not admire. You don't know me.

I probably care as much or more about the legacy of the civil rights movement than most, seeing as how neither my marriage nor my children would exist if the old barriers hadn't been broken by couragious souls like Rosa Parks.

And trust me, fewer persons have a lower opinion of Ronald Reagan than I do; but that ain't the point. That you and I seem to agree on this point is unimportant, that others disagree with you on this point is unimportant, compared to the massive disrespect you are showing both the late Rosa Parks and all others posting on this thread. This thread ain't about Reagan!

You are, I am afraid, a living example of Niven's Sixteenth Law: There is no cause so right that one cannot find a fool following it.
