Hi all....first post here, and I hope it's worth your time. I've read a lot of opinions about how to get the show revived, or at least another BDM made, and though it pains me to say it, I doubt either will ever happen. Fox is way too concerned with churning out garbage like "Who wants to Marry a Millionaire", and "Skating with the Stars", or "American Idol", to ever put something decent like Firefly back on the screen, so we'll just take them out of the equation all together..!! They frankly don't deserve the privilage of having the rights to the show anyway.
Also, since the BDM was somewhat less than a blockbuster (integrety is worth more than box-office anyway), it seems un-likely that any studio would ever put up the money for a sequel. But maybe we're chasing after the wrong dream..? Since Sci-Fi seems to show some interest in the show and it's fan base, why don't we, as a group, approach them with the idea of a movie, or series of movies, or even a mini-series, for the small screen... The sets are alredy there, so that should reduce the up-front costs of any production, which money they could then use to advertise said production to get an even bigger fan base growing, increasing the potential for commercial viability. They could also then show it over and over (as cable channels seem want to do anyway), thus increasing it's marketability, and with fan sites such as this doing the word of mouth thing, the chances for it being profitable for the network seem to be very high indeed. And once it's "run it's course", they could still reap profits from the DVD venue.
Plus, as a series of made for TV movies, or a mini-series, they could spend more time on story/character development, than a single BDM has time to do. They could start with some flashback type things (as in 'Out of Gas') to show/explain what has taken place in the time between the end of the series, and when "Serenity" takes place, telling us why/how Book left and ended up at Haven, and/or the specifics of when Inara left and the "drama" surrounding the event. We could even use the flashback theme to tell us more about all the character's pasts, not just how they came to be on Serenity. And then we could even develop further as a series, moving on from the end of the BDM, with River as the new pilot, since she seems to be "better" now, and obviously shows the propensity to fly the ship, as well as deliver some great one-liners ('also.....I can kill you with my brain') in the spirit of Wash....and wouldn't Jayne love it if his life/safety was put in the hands of River to such a degree.
Anyway, these are just the musings of one very heart-broken browncoat who feels as though the 'verse has come to an end, and wants to try and bring it back to life. What do you think....does this sound like a plausible idea....? Is anyone out there willing/able to co-ordinate such a task? There ARE Firefly stories left to be told (just what IS Book's past, anyway.....?)

to hell with this.....I'm gonna LIVE...

Okay, but how do we talk Joss into the idea?

I think Sci-Fi is a great channel for Firefly. They already have the re-runs playing and I'll bet lots of people watch them (curses on my school's cable provider for not having SF!).

And, let's face it, they really really need some decent programming to balance their totally goofy made-for-TV movies. :)

I think having it on SciFi is probably the most likely option--if only for the fact that Universal owns SciFi, so they own the sets, and are familar with the 'Verse.

Fox washed their hands of Firefly a long time ago. Maybe if the BDM had grossed 400 trillion dollars, they would have taken notice, but otherwise, it seems like their not interested. They'd rather make another cheesy reality show.

The only other thing I can think of is the new CW station, made from combining the WB and UPN. They're a new network, maybe their looking for new programming. Firefly seems like it would be attractive, snice it already has a built-in fan base. However, I could see the production costs being a little more than what they are used to.

Why is this post in "Real World Discussions"?
