Check out Stephen Colbert speech at the White House Press Dinner. Amazing piece of satire. Watch what the main stream media is not reporting on. A brillant courageous piece of writing and comedy.

Follow the link to the video in three parts at youtube.com then post a thank you to Stephen.

I saw it and personally thought it was a bit flat. He was brave saying those things in front of the president, but he could have done more with it. And that "press secretary audition tape" was just lame. But still, at least he didn't completely compromise himself like Jon Stewart did at the Oscars.

Yeah, pretty flat. He seemed to be pulling his punches. What's this about Stewart and the Oscars? Guess that's what I get for ignoring everything. 'Compromised?' , now that sound interesting. Anybody know where I can find a vid of that?

By 'compromised' I just meant he wasn't nearly as witty and to-the-point as he usually is. I didn't watch all of it, but from what I did see I thought he was trying quite hard not to be too controversial, and controversy is something one would expect from Stewart.

His comments about it the day after:

Oldskool Stewart. Oh the irony (guess what he'd be doing 11 years later):

Yeah, that's brave, ripping the head off the prez and crapping down his neck like that. In public, no less. It was NOT supposed to be funny! Now THAT'S funny. Bush is being set up for impeachment show trial later this year, when the Dem tag team moves back into Congress. That's funny, too.

Was it last year when Laura Bush made EVERYBODY laugh, when she confessed boy George masterbates male horses?

Happy Commie May Day, and birthday of the Bavarian Illuminati, and Satanic Beltane. That's why the massive criminal alien riots are scheduled today. No attempt by millions of copsters to arrests those criminals and deport them, as the New World Odor guts USA.

And I was scheduled for indictment by Grand Jury today, for a 5mph traffic ticket for the crime of safe driving, but I fought The Law and The Law LOST, with court costs paid by Gangsta Govt. Now THAT'S FUNNY! I'm sure my brother's glad the TV news isn't announcing his brother's indictment as voters go to the polls to vote for him for judge.

At any rate, the moral of the story is that the illuminati gave Colbert the green light to crucify Jr Bush. This reshapes the brains of the sheeple, to prepare them for the first successful conviction of a US president via impeachment, as castrated USA falls into its last Civil War.

I think he was perfect. I don't understand the criticisms of him being flat or watering himself down. He wasn't doing a lecture, he was there as a comedian...

but all of his remarks were biting, none of them were without a specific political reference, or implication. And yeah, people didn't do that much laughing, because they were the ones he was scolding. He took this opportunity to call out the main-stream media. He took this opportunity to tell Bush what he and many of us think about him and his policies.

And those of you who don't think it was appropriate, because I expect that to be the next talking-point about comedy and dinners you are invited to,I'll attempt to preempt your argument.

it isn't appropriate to be a President of our nation and not provide forums for people and the press to talk to you. This President has less press conferences than any previously. It isn't appropriate to insulate yourself like our president has from hard questions by screening his town hall meetings of democrats, or people with the wrong bumper-sticker on their cars, etc.

If nobody should have said these things there, where could they have said them? Shout them from their free speech zones?

For those of you who think that comedy is supposed to be 'funny', not 'serious',
that's a complete lack of understanding of what comedy is. That's slapstick. Comedy is funny because it is about truth, because it is about things uncomfortable that nobody is saying, or saying the way you can. Colbert was damned funny that night.

That was great, not as funny as it could have been (the film ran too long...) but WOW, did he make his point!!!
The funniest part was W's face as he took it in.

Thanks to Mr. Colbert, who might try using an encrypted cell phone from now on, he'll be watched.

America loves a winner!

Colbert was VERY controversial, and that's why his 'jokes' fell so flat w/ the audience. This was suppose to be funny, not over the top scathing. It's a wonder that Bush stuck around for so much of this act. Gee Steven, how about a few jokes aimed toward the PRESS ??

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

PROOF Colbert was funny. PROOF heroes still exist

Colbert laffs at Bush

If you haven't already viewed the entire clip of Steven Colbert giving the keynote Washington Correspondents' address, the link will take you to a good download.

The first day after the event his piece was hardly mentioned in the mainstream media.
The second day after, it's mentioned negatively -- called "unfunny" by some, thus sparking a debate between those who think he was funny, those who think he wasn't funny. It's become a tussle. People are taking sides.

I thought, there's got to be a way to resolve this. If we had proof that people laughed, maybe we could make the case that indeed, Steven Colbert was funny.

Colbert had the room on his side as much as one could reasonably expect. Hell, he got this out of Scalia by telling him to go "fuck himself." They were putty in his hands.

What Would Jenna Do?
She'd take her panties off for Colbert and show you her Bush, of course! Just like Patti Reagan.

Pulling his punches? Are you kidding? Did you guys watch the same video I did? Who among us could stand within 20 feet of the President, loathsome, embarrassing and undeserving of respect though he is, and say such utterly mocking, disrespectful things? I agreed with Colbert, and I still winced at the Cheney "shoot me in the face" joke.

In front of a hostile audience, no less...

Yeah, you may be right. I think I was comparing his performance to Jon Stewart's rant on crossfire, which I enjoyed specifically because Stewart wasn't trying to be funny. He was trying to layout the ugly truth behind their little charade. Ostensibly, Colbert was there to entertain, so it was a different mood. Given that, his comments were biting, if not terribly original or funny.

One thing that kind of gnawed at me though, was that Bush didn't get pissed off. Seriously, would any self respecting person let someone say such consistently insulting things with out at least answering them? I dunno, I suppose Bush fans will try to say that shows humility. I think it shows that he's heard the criticism all along and doesn't give a shit. Bush just has this weird combination of smug arrogance and bubba-gump ignorance that is truly perplexing.

Regardless, I couldn't really get in a laughing mood considering how much damage Bush is doing to our country.

Yeah, that was disturbing, now that you mention it. I have always had the impression that he just doesn't understand a lot of what is going on around him. I guess he knew he was being insulted, but he didn't really know what to do about it. Perhaps if Karl Rove was whispering in his ear...

bubba-gump ignorance. I like it. It really captures the guy.

I wonder how much more laughter that same routine would have gotten from the same audience if the President hadn't been sitting there?

I watched a clip of Colbert and I loved it. I wouldn't approve of a comedian tearing down someone like Reagan or Bush I at a correspondents dinner, but Bush II is as bad as Nixon and is undeserving of any respect.
