O.K.
This whole PIRATENEWS thing is getting way out of hand on too many levels so heres an idea. It's been mentioned before several times but lets actually see if we can at least TRY to do it;

LETS IGNORE HIM.

If he starts a thread - Ignore it, dont reply however tempting it may be, just ignore it.
If he posts on your thread - Ignore it, dont reply, just ignore it.
Give him 100% blankage if only to see what happens.

What do you say?

I agree. That's what I've tried to do in the past. Just don't give a damn.

Assuming that the moderator(s) can't intervene, ignoring someone is quite effective if it's done 100%.

Yes, but it will only work if everyone actually does it...
Although I still like my idea of enlisting Team Random. I don't think that would be as effective, though. Maybe it would, since he does have his supporters on this site. For some strange reason.

I'm not sure that approach will be very effective in this case. PN seems to have very little interest in interacting. I think its safe to say most of us have been ignoring him already. I'd hoped a reasonably polite request might appeal to a hypothetical better nature.

Anyway, ignore him, yeah I'm in.

OK, all in with the ignoring now. I'm going ignor-y.

To help us in our aim, I've written a little PN-cleaner that you all might want to try. Whenever you're following a thread that gets infected, all you need to do is copy a few lines of javascript directly into the address bar of your browser, hit 'go' and like magic, no more PN. Or better yet make a new bookmark and copy the script in for the url. Then just hit the link anytime you feel the need to clean house.

I'll send the code to anyone interested. I've been using and it works great.

Well, yeah--at last, someone PirateJenny can really relate to.

Oh, yeah, and I'm on board with the ignore thing. Just 'cause I'm a follower, though.

Twenty-Five Ways To Suppress Truth: The Rules of Disinformation

Includes The 8 Traits of A Disinformationalist

by H. Michael Sweeney
www.MKZine.com
Spring/Summer 2003

5. Sidetrack opponents with name calling and ridicule. This is also known as the primary 'attack the messenger' ploy, though other methods qualify as variants of that approach. Associate opponents with unpopular titles such as 'kooks', 'right-wing', 'liberal', 'left-wing', 'terrorists', 'conspiracy buffs', 'radicals', 'militia', 'racists', 'religious fanatics', 'sexual deviates', and so forth. This makes others shrink from support out of fear of gaining the same label, and you avoid dealing with issues.

6. Hit and Run. In any public forum, make a brief attack of your opponent or the opponent position and then scamper off before an answer can be fielded, or simply ignore any answer. This works extremely well in Internet and letters-to-the-editor environments where a steady stream of new identities can be called upon without having to explain criticism, reasoning -- simply make an accusation or other attack, never discussing issues, and never answering any subsequent response, for that would dignify the opponent's viewpoint.

9. Play Dumb. No matter what evidence or logical argument is offered, avoid discussing issues except with denials they have any credibility, make any sense, provide any proof, contain or make a point, have logic, or support a conclusion. Mix well for maximum effect.

17. Change the subject. Usually in connection with one of the other ploys listed here, find a way to side-track the discussion with abrasive or controversial comments in hopes of turning attention to a new, more manageable topic. This works especially well with companions who can 'argue' with you over the new topic and polarize the discussion arena in order to avoid discussing more key issues.

18. Emotionalize, Antagonize, and Goad Opponents. If you can't do anything else, chide and taunt your opponents and draw them into emotional responses which will tend to make them look foolish and overly motivated, and generally render their material somewhat less coherent. Not only will you avoid discussing the issues in the first instance, but even if their emotional response addresses the issue, you can further avoid the issues by then focusing on how 'sensitive they are to criticism.'

It's all one to me, really - but if I have to listen to one extreme of the political spectrum here, I'd prefer to hear both, no matter how incoherent.

I think Sarge is talkin about a variation of the usenet killfile (a durned handy thing in all truth) and for thems that would like to use it more power to ya.

Even if I think it's out in left field, or straight from a bad acid trip, I still wanna hear that end of the spectrum, since although a bit more coherent, the other end has no better grasp of reality.

Capisce ?

If I have to hear one, I'll hear both - if it comes to neither, then there's no point in having a discussion here, cause if you never discuss with folks ya don't agree with, that's just *shrug* social talk.

There are more posters around than one that seem to have zero interest in rational discourse and seem kinda trollish, eh ?

It's always good for a laugh, or fodder for parody.
I just read my first posting by him/her and said "WTF was that?!" Then wondered how it had anything to do with Firefly, then wandered into this thread and said "oh, now I understand"
I'd ask for the filter but I wouldn't be able to figure out how to put it in.
I figure I'll scroll down whenever I see the name.
BTW I'm more concerned with the fact that the individual in question appears to be able to essentially google for threads with their name in it. "Speak not the name of the beast lest it appear" sort of thingy. This makes me worry about viruses being set up by them on the site. Please tell me there's an Alpha Geek on that already.
I can use that term, I married one. (:
But yeah, this is definitely someone looking for attention and the best way to deal with it for those of us who are technologically impaired is to not check out any threads with the name at the heading and do not engage.
