WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson was in critical condition early Thursday, a hospital official said, after late-night brain surgery that followed hospitalization for stroke-like symptoms.

Now i'm not saying yeah and in fact I hope Senator Johnson makes a full and fast recovery. But if he dies...well, I guess we'll have a Republican Senate.

In other news: Obama in '08! Yeah right. I suspect Hillary is already sharpening the 'long knives'. She doesn't need to kill him...just enough of his momentum to get him out New Hampshire and off the best seller list. Democrats have always been about making sure the blacks know their place and its not the top of the ticket, its voting what they're told to vote and saying what they're told to say and holding the door, serving the food (Howard Dean), and supporting the white lady. I'm just sayin...

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It's a race to the...er... finish:

Republican Senator From Wyoming Diagnosed With Leukemia
Sen. Craig Thomas, hospitalized since Monday with pneumonia, began treatment for leukemia on Thursday, his spokesman said.

This ocurred during the election. I was going to post something about it but thought the better. But since Hero broke the good-taste barrier, I decided to go over the cliff with him!

Its a real world event and has great implications to what will happen as early as next month. Its a topic worthy of discussion.

I for one hope both Senators make a full and fast recovery.

What's distaistful are the upcoming unfounded accusations of foul play that are sure to follow this discussion.

I fully agree. As much as I'd like to see the Republicans get back control of the Senate, I don't wish to obtain it at the cost of someone's health.

I'm hoping the Senator recovers fully, without reservation.

I was speaking as to this particular Democrat. I can't promise to make the same comment should Uncle Teddy's liver or Hillary's hemrroids start acting up.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"Far be from me to wish anyone ill..." Now this kind of sentence always has a "but" in it. Here it is "But if he dies ..."

The first part is a "but" covering disclaimer. The rest is the real point: " Whooo hooo --- there goes the Democrat majority."

I think the bottom of the barrel is right around here somewhere, if we just scrape a tad more ....

Sorry Hero.

Hmmm...

Drug addicts are not people.

OR...

Drugs are already poison and the addicts are poisoning themselves, so our addition of a few new herbs and spices is merely making their voluntary self destruction less drawn out and time consuming.

I would never advocate the poisoning of a Democrat although most of them could use varying degrees of blunt force trauma to the head. I wouldn't wish a stroke on anyone...

No! NO!! He MUST die!!! I WANT Republicans in control!!! I WANT the neo-cons to stay the course!!! I WANT us to be in Iraq!!!! I HATE America, so the more we eff-up abroad, the more evil American sons and daughters can die in the meatgrinders of our own making!!! I agree with Hero!!!Look at the great job being done that will be slowed with Democratic control!!! The Dems aren't into death, or lining Haliburton's pockets; they're into lining their OWN pockets! Corruption that gets no one killed I have no use for!!! Republican corruption strengthens our economy, guarantees available jobs in the armed forces, promotes the proliferation of the very enemies that define our reason to be on this Earth, and thins the herd of our over-populated land!

Omlets, people!!
OMLETS!!!!!

I don't know, I thought he did a pretty good Hero impersonation - in spirit if not word choice.

THe only guy I haven't heard dance on the Senator's grave is Limbaugh. And I'm surprised-- that's about his speed.

'Course the Republican governor COULD do the right thing and appoint a Democrat, if necessary.
Yeah, I believe in the possibility of that...

You mean the way Democratic governor Casey did the "right thing" and appointed a Republican to replace Republican Senator Heinz when he died? Oh wait. He didn't -- he appointed a Democrat.

You should know a bit about the history of these sort of things before you start making hypocritical accusations.

SOUPCATCHER

After the news about the Senator first broke, there were a number of stories about other Senators in the past and their health problems.

The one thing I took away from the retrospectives is that Senator's are not leaving office unless they die. They may be unable to function, but they're holding on to that office by the skin of their teeth. Probably has something to do with the overdeveloped egos that are pretty much a given at that level of government.

And, as far as weirdness goes, this doesn't even hold a candle to the 83rd Congress ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/14/AR2006
121401571.html
)
Quote:

excerpted from above 15 December 2006 Al Kamen Washington Post article:

...

But the unsettled situation pales when compared with the bizarre 83rd Congress in 1953 and 1954, during which nine of the then-96 senators died, including one who committed suicide, and one resigned.

When the Senate convened on Jan. 3, 1953, the GOP was in charge 48 to 47, plus one former Republican, Sen. Wayne L. Morse-- an independent so independent that he moved his seat to the Senate aisle and would not vote with the Democrats to organize.

By Aug. 3 of that year, when the first session adjourned, three members -- including Majority Leader Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio) -- had died. When the next session began in January 1954, the Democrats had become the majority, 48-47-1, but they did not assume control. At one point during that session, as various members died, the D's even had a two-vote lead, but they never challenged Republican control of the body. The Senate adjourned Aug. 20 back where it had started, with the GOP holding a one-vote majority.

...

Better buy a lot, then.
Let's start with your oxycontin snortin buddy Rush, and just work your way up the ladder from there, but, um, don't be surprised if you run out of GOP members rather quickly.

Why didja support em if you hate em so much ?

I thought oxycontin came as pills. You don't snort it, you pop it.

As for Rush, he admitted his problem, went to rehab, satisfied the police, and is now back at work paying taxes. I hardly think that compares to your average junkie.

My, aren't we touchy.
If A Democrat did such a thing, it wouldn't be right either. SO I don't think there's anything hypocritical about my accusation.
Did that action change the balance of power in the Senate?
If everybody used to cheat on an exam, it wasn't right for them to do that, and that certainly is not an excuse for doing it now.
Sooner or later, people have to do what is right, not what is expedient. And what is right is the will of the PEOPLE, not the will of either party.
Unless you believe in cheap revenge, which, last I heard, is an Islamic virtue.

Yes. Appointing Wofford to replace John Heinz added a Democrat and made for one less Republican. It also a leading cause of the Republican Revolution of 1994 when Rick Santorum, the poster boy for the new "Young Republican" movement took Wofford's seat (despite a HUGE spending gap) and in doing took the Senate.

Was it wrong for Casey to appoint Wofford? No. We live in a Representative Democracy. The Governor was empowered to replace Senators, and is entrusted with that power by the people of the State.

I suppose you'd have a problem with Mr. Smith too.
