Just some fun.

Someone posts a quote from a world leader (or a summing up of their position), and the next person tells us what that quote is actually saying:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: The aim of Iran's Nuclear program is peaceful.
Could be:
The aim of Iran's Nuclear program is Jerusalem.

So to start:
Tony Blair: Mine is the first generation able to contemplate the possibility that we may live our entire lives without going to war or sending our children to war.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

He left out a few words:

Mine is the first generation able to contemplate the possibility that we may live our entire lives without going to war or sending our children to war. We did not, however, contemplate it for very long.

Otherwise, I got nothing.

So true.

But what he really meant by it was, the Soviet Union has fallen and the Cold War might actually be over, and that gives us hope for the future. He said this to a NATO summit. And the whole purpose of NATO was to act as a Bulwark against the threat of Soviet forces, which in theory didn’t exist anymore. Basically Blair was telling people what they wanted to hear and letting them know that this is also what he wants to hear. Blair would later abandon this flowery rhetoric in favor of a much Churchillian approach.

Yassar Arafat:
“I come bearing an olive branch in one hand, and the freedom fighter's gun in the other. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand.”

Nihil est incertius vulgo, nihil obscurius voluntate hominum, nihil fallacius ratione tota comitiorum.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

Good one

Sorry forgot to mention, once you've replied you need to put up a new quote.

Vladimir Putin: It is not a campaign against Muslims and Chechens but a struggle against extremists.

Here's mine for you.

"He found it an interesting book and a quick read. I don't want to go too deep into it, but we discussed the origins of existentialism."
- White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, on President Bush reading Albert Camus' The Stranger

What he really said was...

"He found it an interesting book and a quick read. I don't want to go too deep into it, but we discussed the origins of existentialism. He was however, disappointed by the lack of pictures and the many big words."
- White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, on President Bush reading Albert Camus' The Stranger

All in all the president says from A-Apple to Z-Zebra, Baby's First Pop-up book is 26 pages of alphabetic adventure!

Donald Rumsfeld: There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know.
There are known unkowns. That is to say, there are things we know we don't know.
But, there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we don't know we don't know.

The word of the day is "known." My PR guy thought it would be great if I tossed it in here and there. And, no, I'm not really sure of what I'm saying, either - but, boy, do I sound smart.

FDR: "A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned how to walk forward."
