In a stunning reversal for the GOP , NeoCons and Bushites everywhere, the Dixie Chicks won 4 grammy awards tonight.

The peacenic, "we're with the terrosists" liberals voted for the anti-American musical group, thereby offending all right thinking, pro democracy persons in the real America...

How is this a “reversal,” stunning or otherwise?

OK, so I won't teach you history, but I guess I gotta go find a dictionary and explain English to ya. " Reversal" used in that sense, means defeat, not change of opinion.
It's kinda like " set back" , which is not what I'm accusing Republicans of doing on their chairs.

I think I get what you're going for here. The winning of the awards will not change the die-hard-right-winger belief that the Dixie Chicks all of a sudden went from, "approved listening material" to "evil damn bitches who are no better than communists" with their in-retrospect-benign comments on that UK stage. No amount of award type validation will change the fact that there are many people who now hate the Dixie Chicks. And will always hate the Dixie Chicks. Simply because of a few simple words that didn't fit into their notions of what it means to be patriotic (read: if you don't love George W Bush just shut the fuck up).

To that crowd of cult-of-personality believers no statue hardware will change the knee jerk.

In the political sense, reversal means ‘a change for the worst,’ but that’s not necessarily a defeat, but in any event, how is the Grammies, much less the Dixie Chicks, a stunning ‘change for the worst’ for the GOP, much less a defeat?

That’s true of a certain minority, but there’s also the issue of how exactly does the Dixie Chicks get saddled with such responsibility as defeating the GOP? Are the Dixie Chicks such talentless hacks that they can’t be known for anything other then some ditzy comment? Is it possible that the Dixie Chicks won a Grammy or several because they’re music is enjoyed, not because of some dipshit comment years ago? Granted, that seems surprising to me, but then most Grammies that get awarded seem surprising to me.

Deranged Bush Hate Syndrome strikes again...
These sad, tragic people are unable to enjoy life in any way, they are constantly on their manic alert for anything...anything that can be blamed on Bush...or anything, anything that can show a win over Bush. It eats away at them, day and night, 24 hours a day...sadly, there is no known cure. Even a mid-term election victory was nary good news enough to alleviate these DBHS sufferers' ongoing mental anguish. Fortunately for them, Bush's life functions will terminate statistically in less than 20 years.....can they just hold on?

I guess that's why the Dixie Twits are having to cancell U.S. dates right and left, and their album sales are about 1/3rd of those compared to the sales of their previous albums.

Yay for them. A liberal organization is awarding a liberal group.

This just in:
I went searching on ALtaVista ( it's like google, only been around for a long time , for you kiddies. )for Dixie Chicks news, and one of the earliest links for the story was from AlJazeera in English. Guess that proves it-- they're on the side of the terrorists, probably controlled directly by Sadam Hussein. No, wait , he's dead... that's right, Iran-- they're part of the Iranian attack on America Probably got Weapons of Mass destruction in their bras.

Only, USA today, and Cnn also covered the story, as well as the Christian Science Monitor. also Entertainment Weekly.

Of course, the news guys that report the TRUTH, Fox, Limbaugh, and HaAnnity and Colmes, have heroically stood firm, stayed the course, and not reported on this yet.

As an aside how exactly dose one go about winning a Grammy? i mean who or what sets the selection process.

The thing about this hole bit...

Yes, they haven't been reduced to living in cardboard box's (or France) and eating cat food. However, also yes that there star is not were it once was.

They did alienate a lot of there fans and it show's in record sales and especially in the domestic concert biesness. Some of the fan's in question were more affected than others and i assume thay picked up at lest a few replacement’s form non-country-listening people.

i call it a draw as to who won this one.

So let me get this straight. If "Cars" wins the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, then we're rejecting the global warming hysteria? And if "the Queen" wins Best Picture, we really want the return of monarchy?

I don't see it as being a competition. Someone expressed a personal opinion and other people expressed theirs. I think that's a good thing. It's the death threats and the radio blacklisting that I have issues with.

There was recently a documentary about John Lennon's infamous "bigger than Jesus" comment where the folks involved in starting off the record burning and blacklisting essentially admited that they kept it going because it was good for their ratings.

So what was the radio blacklisting stuff about? Where the radio shows doing it to "punish" the Chicks for expressing an opinion the owners of the radio station disliked? Did they do it in the belief that continuing to play Chicks songs would loose them market share? Or was it a way to do the stupid country trick of wrap yourself in the flag to sell product?

Or it was because the chick's were no longer as popular with country listeners as thay once were. When they were red hot ya heard them all the time, but once they stopped being a strong selling point (amongst that target audience) ya didn't. it happens for all sort’s of reasons. In the chick’s case it just happened to be an unlucky combination of a political statement not terribly compatible with the majority of there fan base and frankly unfortunate timing with regards to news’s coverage.

I would point out that the wrapping in the flag is not ipso-facto a "trick". In other words quite a lot of people in that target demographic are genuly patriotic and like that sort of stuff.

As to the competition that was really a play off of the thread header with the whole bushies loss agine thing .

Well I covered that in the "market share" comment, if they were genuinely unpopular then obviously you would play them less. However, would you not play them at all? I mean they will still be popular with some fraction of your audience and so long as you were not the "all the Chicks, all the time" station a reduced play list would not be a big deal.

And it is a ploy, I'm sorry but in basic terms it's pandering to sell product. I have no problem with folks being patriotic but some of the stuff the "bidness" pulls is commercialism first and patriotism second.

Delusional Bush Suppoter Syndrome is alive and well. The strain of supporting a bungling ill spoken waste of skin has righties snapping like twigs. DBSS puts increasing amounts of distance between the aflicted and reality. In the advanced stages a common halucination involves armies of mindless and relentless "blamers". Kind of like Reavers! Well why not stop playing them all together? From a commercial stand point it come's down to % how much for how much against and how much don't care. As long as the keep playing % wasn't the largest then from a making $$ stand point it's a crap shot. Then ya add in the ability to get all the extra publicity (whether ya come out for or against). there are lot's of artist's that are never heard on country stations primarily because there not doing country music it's true but there would probably be at lest some over lap in listeners. I guess i don't really see any reason why particular stations or DJ's shouldn't have decide to stop playing there song's.

At the end of the day were talking about genre stations that focus on a particular segment of listeners. Primarily thay do that by the typ of music played but there is a component of at lest implied....shard world veiw (not really happy with that word choice). The chick's standing was damaged in there original genera but there are other genre’s and stations. They them selves talked about moving away from country (a fairly logical plan IMO). I’ve never been really sold on "blackball" as an strictly accurate description at lest on a more emotional/descriptive level. by the by you do still on occasion here some of there older songs on some country stations for what it's worth.

Or patriotism first and commercialism second, ether or, six of one half dozen of the other....so on and so forth. just because somebody's doing or saying something that they think thay may profit by doesn’t mean that thay also don't believe it. Limbaugh (or Michal Moor)is a good example, generally i assume that he believes at lest in the general theory of what he say's. Even if he may be adding some % of "waahwho" hyperbole on top in the interest of generating more personal successes.

It is true that I generally draw a distinction between a ‘setback’ and a ‘defeat.’ And if that chip on your shoulder wasn’t so big, you probably would too, but if you want to mean “defeat” in your original argument, instead of a reversal, then that’s fine with me. It’s your story, but it won’t help your case any. You have yet to explain how the Dixie Chicks’ various Grammies constitute a loss for the GOP, much less a defeat.

On a related point, the Dixie Chicks really didn't deserve the death threats. That kind of thing is totally crazy, but as for the loss of popularity, that they probably did deserve. The Dixie Chicks made money off their image, when they decided to change that image, their revenues respond like it would with any other business. This isn’t a case of the Dixie Chicks having an opinion and being ridiculed for it; it’s a case of a business decision, albeit, perhaps impulsive but possibly calculated. And as a consequence they lost much of their US audience. Many US radio stations chose not to play them, not because they were being blacklisted for their opinions, but because the radio stations were making a business decision also. This is business, not charity, and the Dixie Chicks made a lot of money before that event and they're probably making even more now, so they sure as hell don’t need anyone’s charity. So the death threats and whatnot were fruitcakey, but the rest is all fair game.
