Former Miami Heat superstar Tim Hardaway told a local sports radio show that he "hates gay people."

Hardaway made the comments while he was being interviewed by Dan Le Batard on 790 the Ticket Wednesday afternoon.

The five time All Star was asked how he would deal with a gay teammate.

"First of all I wouldn't want him on my team," said Hardaway. "Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I don't think that's right and I don't think he should be in the locker room when we're in the locker room."

Le Batard took Hardaway to task, pointing out that his comments were 'flatly homophobic' and bigoted, but that only seemed to stir up the former point guard.

"Well, you know, I hate gay people," Hardaway said in response to Le Batard. "I let it be known I don't like gay people. I don't like to be around gay people. I'm homophobic. It shouldn't be in the world, in the United States, I don't like it."

Hardaway's comments come on the heels of a groundbreaking revelation made by former player John Amaechi, who became the first professional basketball player to openly identify himself as gay.

He has every right to say that or anything else he wants....just like the Dixie Twits have their rights to say what they want too. Of course, after you excersize your free speech rights there usually are consequences...something the Chix can never seem to get through their immature heads. Hardaway owns a business or businesses in Florida, and I'm sure he'll be issuing either an apology on this soon, or one of those non-apology apologies....where they say they're sorry "that other people might be offended"....not sorry for saying it or believing it...just sorry for those offended...hardly an apology.

As stupid as he sounds when he says this, there is probably a somewhat substantial portion of the NBA roster that feel the same way. It's probably nowhere close to the majority, but certainly enough someone think twice about coming out. I don't blame Don Amaechi for waiting until he was retired.

That's one thing sponsers won't be asking from now on. He's off the A list of product endorsment, you can bank on that.

Oh, and that NBA announcing gig he may have wanted down the road? Nadda. Kiss that goodbye too.

Where as Mel Gibson was liquored up, and Michael Richards was raging on stage, Tim was simply speaking his mind. The intervewiwer even gave Tim an out, to clarify his comments, and he only stuck his foot further into his mouth.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I think this is the first time anybody here ever agreed with anything I wrote...or at least the first time I wasn't called an idiot or troll.

No problem, I will agree with someone if they're right, regardless. You actualy pointed out an area where I was applying a double standard, and I hate that!

I think it's sad that his career will be effected because of this. So he doesn't like gay people. Who cares really? Unless he's a politician in your area who's open with his hatred of gays, who really cares what a retired NBA star has to say about homosexuality? And it's not as if he was telling anybody else to hate gays. I'm sure gay people hate Tim Hardaway too.

There are certain types of people that everyone on this board are guilty of not liking. It's a damn good thing we're not all under the microscope like these celebs are. I feel more and more pity for celebs every day.

Everybody downloads everything now, so the companies figured out that they have to sell the lives of celebrities to keep making money off of them.
