GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

In an untamed, primordial America, 500 years before Columbus will reach its shores, unfolds an epic battle between love and hate that will change one man’s destiny and the future of a nation: PATHFINDER. This action-adventure saga recreates one of the most riveting, yet never-before-seen, eras in human history – when Viking “dragon” ships from the mysterious Norse lands arrived out of nowhere to invade a pristine North America. Inspired by historical findings, yet forged with the magic and style of a modern graphic novel, PATHFINDER comes to life in a cinematic experience filled with intense and primal action. The legend-like story of survival begins with a Viking child who becomes the lone survivor of a shipwreck, after his marauding Norse clan raids a coastal Native American village for slaves. Despite his blonde hair and strange language – and concerns that evil will follow the boy wherever he goes – the ten year-old is adopted by the local Wampanoag Indians, who raise him to become a skilled hunter and warrior.

But fifteen years later, the pale young man known to his tribe as Ghost (KARL URBAN) is still trying to escape his past. Now, as the Vikings return to storm America again, this time they will carry out a barbaric attack that will annihilate Ghost’s beloved tribe and endanger the woman he loves (MOON BLOODGOOD). Once again a survivor on the run, and thirsting for blood vengeance, Ghost comes under the guidance of the Pathfinder (RUSSELL MEANS), a powerful shaman who foresees the enraged young man’s unexpected destiny: as the hard-won hero who will wage a one-man war against the Vikings and becomes his people’s savior.

Evil Viking killers attack innocent freedom-loving Native Americans. Are we going to war with Scandinavia? Who will Hollywood insult next?

Saw the preview. Gonna pass on this one, especially after reading the blurb. Thanks for the heads-up, Geezer!!

For any who cares, the Viking-Age Norse voyages to Vinland were actually launched for purposes of settlement, not war or slave-gathering or plunder or terrorizing the locals.

And in case anyone's interested, "Viking" is, strictly speaking, a verb, not a noun.

I'm just saying.

:)

Better be careful, Geezer. Rue is gonna charge in here any minute now and spout off at you. Then her buddies will pile in after she gets the drubbing she so richly deserves.

As long as all the Vikings have English accents everything is correct and hiristocrical.

Didn't you know? American actors can't be bothered to learn anything but an English accent. In fact, in most American movies, the presence of an English accent is cinematic shorthand for, "This all happened in some foreign place."

There are three accents in the world:
American for good guys
English for bad guys (which sounds nothing like)
and Terrorist, which is a little like a stereotypical version of people from the middle east.

Right, unless it's a war movie, and then the bad guys have German or Russian accents (but they're played by Brits).

Citizen and I have decided that for Pathfinder to be historically accurate, the Vikings have to speak English with an English accent (but substituting V's for W's). Let the countdown to flame threads begin. That is all.

Not always- there was this cheesy cornball movie from the '50s, simply called 'The Vikings,' where all the Vikings were played by Americans and the Saxons were (strangely enough) English. Not very convincing

The Native Americans that the Norse settlers met were not like the ones portrayed in your average western and were refered to by the Norse as "Skrealingas" which roughly translates as "wretches".
The Norse were trying to settle but that does'nt mean they were'nt prejudiced or self-opinionated.
That being said the film sounds like a take on Pocahuntas to me.

Yeah. I saw the traler waiting to see "300". It made the Persians in "300" seem the models of decorum, compared to the Vikings.

Hehehe, not to mention, the Norse did not wear helmets with horns on them! Nor did they look like they just stepped out of a Warhammer catelog...

I would love to see an attempt at an Historically accurate movie, as opposed to yet another 'modern graphic novel' interpretation.

If anyone has a reason to complain it's native Americans, because the villain, hero, and victim roles are all occupied by white folks and the natives are once again reduced to backdrop.

You know, like those 400 crew members of the Enterprise that must have been stoking coal or sumpthin' in the bowels of the ship 'cause you never saw them... unless the plot demanded a disposable character.

Reality sucks. Especially when it contradicts our cherished ideas.

Did you ever see the "house" series of shows on PBS? Colonial House, Pioneer House, etc...? They are a little slowgoing, for example the highlight of a day in Colonial House was finding blueberries. Our overstimulated psyches would be bored by a full length historically acurate movie of just about anything...so it wouldn't sell...and thats why they don't do that so much.

It's a good idea though!

I've never seen any of those shows, unfortunately. They sound intriguing. I'm a bit weird, cuz I'd probably love a full length historically accurate movie, but then I'm into history a bit so.. *G*

No, the Norse gods don't say that it it's OK to kill non-believers so we're probably good.

That country are Christian now, and the Christian God DOES say it's okay to kill non-believers, it's in the Bible.
