I still think that Baldwin's kid is a little rich brat and the whole family probably acts like a bunch of little assholes to each other and probably anyone around them.
But does Alec fix that by acting like a rich spoiled asshole himself? Of the two of them, I expect more out of the dad because after all, he's the adult.

Aside from Alec Baldwin's tirade to his daughter, he has a history of angry outbursts- putting his fist thru a wall, shoving cops around, on-set rants (to the point where ppl have refused to work with him) etc. Just google up "alec baldwin" + anger and you'll pull up a sh*tload of references.

As had been prepviously said, the man is habituated to using rage to get his own way. He excuses his behavior all kinds of ways.... "You don't know what I've been through" , "I was tired (drunk, ill)", "I had a bad day". "That was the last straw" "Everyone loses their temper" "She made me so mad" .... but his very public history of repeated angry outbursts makes it clear that the man is a rage-junkie and he resorts to it to feel powerful and momentarily in-control. It also makes him a bully to his aquaintances and an abuser to his family.

Some people see adulthood as a postion of privilege and power: I'm the adult. That means you have to do what I say, not what I do. And when you get to be an adult, you get to do the same and boss your kids around.

Others see it as a responsibility and a time to meet all the obligations of adulthood, including self-control and thoughtful action.

PS- GWB is an example of the Alec- Baldwin style of adulthood. Which just goes to show you meet *ssholes on both sides of the ideological divide.

And THIS is going to help how? I know it can be incredibly hard to be patient with a child who pushes your buttons all the time, especially at the instigation of the other parent. But throwing temper tantrums reveals many unflattering things about Baldwin: (1) He's not adult enough to let his feelings be unswayed by an 11-year-old which means that (2) she has control over HIM. I susepct he's a control freak who lacks ocntrol over the most central part of his life: himself.

PS. 6ix- Maybe that's why you are the way you are.

Yes, yes, I'm happy to say I have an "internalized Alice." The other great insightful psychologist I'm way tuned into still is Wilhelm Reich. A lot of his works are hard to come by, but The Emotional Plague is magnificent as is The Mass Psychology of Fascism which he wrote in 1933 when the brownshirts were marching in the streets and it's the clearest description of how fascism happens on the individual level I've seen.

I've actually never read Dobson, he sounds like a horrorshow.

HK, that doesn't even begin to describe it.

The basic thrust of his concept is that the parent is boss and master, and should tolerate absolutely ZERO resistance or questioning of any kind from a child, meeting it with an immediate and overwhelming verbal and physical assault designed to cause as much pain as possible and crush it totally and completely...

In fact you might go so far as to compare it to the military philosophy of "breaking down" new recruits, which is in my opinion why we have a pretty damned useless army, once you take all the techno toys away.

A "Broken Down" person or child might be obediant to your will, when you are there, while you are looking - but at first opportunity they will remove themselves from it, and learn to lie, to hate, and to retaliate in ways unlikely to come back on them personally.

Esso is even worse, as he firmly believes in applying such a method to INFANTS, which, when you review Doc Perrys work, means in no uncertain terms permanently damaging them for life because such abusive and neglectful treatment during developmental stages will permanently alter the brain structure and chemistry, crippling emotional attachment responses, empathy with their own kind, and depriving them of the depth of emotion required to form and maintain social relations with other people in a non-abusive way.

These two also have substantial religious backing, and since their works are used by parents who absolve their own guilt about what they are doing, it's a very tough cycle to break - I've watched adversarial parenting completely destroy families of folks I cared about, but other than attempting to be a helping witness, there's not bloody much I can do about it.

Foisting this poisonous parenting on the public is in my eyes about as evil an act as there ever was, and I sincerely hope they roast in their beloved christian hell for it, strong words I know, but the social carnage caused by this idiocy is all around us, broken relationships, broken people, and a society that is at best, an emotional wasteland where sociopathy is endlessly rewarded, and altruism scorned, mocked and punished.

Even here, how often is social tolerance and mercy scorned and frowned upon, why is it considered uncool to love, to care ?

You can thank Dobson, Esso and the like for it, and for that, they deserve hell, nothing less would serve as justice.

Apparently Basinger's now hired around-the-clock protection for her daughter to keep her safe from Alec Baldwin.

Can't disagree with anything you said here. It's all so formulaic. When I saw the BDM, I thought to myself that I've seen this story 10 times already, just with a different cast and characters and a different setting.
Different setting? The final sequence (central pillar in a large space) was reminiscent of Galaxy Quest which itself was derived from Star Wars.... except the parts that looked like they came from Road Warrior. Really, it could have been a MUCH better movie!

So 6ix- I bet I've done worse than you. (hangs head).

Hear, hear, HK and Frem. You guys are why I keep coming back to RWED.

I think we have all suffered some desensitization to psychological abuse and bullying, not only from parents and teachers, but from peers, colleagues, bosses, and government authorities. And media. We are so used to it that being called a rude little pig is just not a big deal for a lot of people.

Of course, on the other hand, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't a big deal--compared to the daily suffering of millions of impoverished and/or sick people who are just trying to stay alive day to day. A rich kid who suffers some personal and family dysfunction shouldn't really register on the radar. (And there is something very wrong with a society in which it gets national airtime.)

But just because it isn't a BIG deal doesn't make it right. Abuse is wrong. People involved should make it stop. The rest of us should care about more important things.

Like the sequel to National Treasure. And Firefly of course.

Kim Basinger denies that she leaked the voicemail.

Quote:

"Kim Basinger did not release the voicemail. Additionally, the voicemail was not sealed under a court order," said a statement released by the actress's publicist, Annett Wolf, on Monday.

Baldwin left a voicemail lambasting his daughter, Ireland, for failing to answer the telephone for a prearranged call. The tape was aired by the celebrity Web site TMZ.com on Thursday and quickly made headlines around the world.

A Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner ordered Baldwin to stay away from his daughter pending a May 4 hearing.

Baldwin, who has been locked in a custody dispute with Basinger since their 2002 divorce, blamed her for the leak on Friday. He also apologized on his own Web site for "losing my temper with my child."

"I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now," Baldwin wrote.

"Everybody is always asking why this custody battle has been going on for so many years, and now they have the answer. The issue is not about Kim or the alleged alienation that Alec constantly refers to; it is about his ongoing aggressive behavior," Basinger's statement said.

"Kim's sincerest wish is for him to finally address his unstable and irrational behavior so he, at some point, can potentially create a relationship with his daughter," the statement said. "Until then, Kim will continue to protect and safeguard her child's well-being as any parent would."

I just wonder how fucked up the mom REALLY is to that kid. My mom was all sorts of batshit nuts but the state gave her custody simply because she didn't have a penis. My step brother and half brother are on their way to living very successful lives thanks to my dad. One's got a full ride to college the other, spending his last 2 years at high school at a math and science academy. Wonder how different it would have been if I told the courts and my mom to fuck off and went and lived with my father.

I'll reserve judgement on the Baldwin, because nobody in here really knows what the situation is. It really must be nice to be able to judge an entire person's life and reputation based off a few sound bytes. That truly is a gift you have.

Last night Dr Phil condemned whomever leaked the story to the press. You can say what you want about Dr Phil, but I think he's right. I myself grew up in a house where one parent spent my entire upbringing trying to sway me to thier side by ruthlessly bashing the other. That is a recipe for unpleasantness. I hope for that child's sake, Kim Bassinger realizes the potential for damage.

Never stopped to think that as usual, nobody ever BOTHERED to ask the kid what she thought ?

That maybe she doesn't care for being treated in such a fashion by daddy, doesn't feel that she should have to put up with it, suffer in silence, or accept such abuse.

He put a weapon in her hands and she used it, given the legal status of minors as next best thing to property, with no actual rights or say, she took the only viable option to put an end to it, and in doing so humilated him for that clearly unacceptable behavior.

His own temper, stupidity and meanness put him in this box, so it's awful damned hard for me to feel any symptahy for him don't ya know.

She may well be a spoiled brat, I do not know, cause I don't know the kid, none of us do - but I give her this... she's a smart one.
