For the record, I am in agreement with this - if your beliefs are going to run up against the job you have chosen to do, you should be reconsidering one or the other.

Same baliwick as pharmacists refusing to fill stuff that they have religious issues with, and believe me, I would be just as in agreement with them facing consequences as well.

"Bobs" take on it -
"It is not my alcohol, and I do not intend to consume or posses it, and dogs are cleaner than some people we take, if it was my own car, maybe - but not on the job, no."

Being Muslim gives one no more right to be a jackass than being Christian, and to put yourself willfully in a career that is going to run up against your beliefs in such a fashion and then take it out on your customers is jackassery of the highest fashion.

Score one for common sense.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

Just when i thought religion-enduced stupidity couldn't get any more ridiculous, something like this happens... *shakes head sadly*

This is kind of off topic, but this case reminds me of some Pakistani (at least i think it was Pakistani) kite festival that kills dozens every year because some people just have to have razor-sharp glass-coated kite strings, and others just have to stand on highrise rooftops in high winds while they fly kites, or still more people just have to climb power poles to disentangle their kites from power lines. And for what? Honoring an ancient hindu tradition.

Pure stupidity...

Original link is dead. Without that, I can only say "mildly interesting." Does seem like a poor career choice.

Oh, basically the local judiciary ruled that a Cab Company is fully within their rights to fire a Muslim cabbie who refuses to transport a dog or alcohol in his cab.

And I agree with them, if you *know* your religious issues are gonna run smack face first into the jobs requirements, it's time to reconsider your intended career.

I got the same issue with pharmacists, a cabbie must be willing within reason to transport anyone and their cargo, a pharmacist must be willing to fill within reason any prescription.

If your religion actively interferes with your ability to do your job, yer doing the wrong job.

I mostly agree; a couple details. Most cabbies don't own their own cab; if they do, they may run their business as they see fit and decline what business they wish. Same with Pharmacists; if they work for a company that sells a drug, they should fill it; or at least expect they might be fired. In either case, a business with a policy of not carrying (cab) or not filling (pharmacy) happens to go out of business due to lack of patronage, that's just the way of life.
