This was discussed sometime back. Some of you might be interested that Ron Paul has filed paperwork for an Exploratory Committee to run for President.

If he gets the nomination (which is highly unlikely), I'd be voting Republican for the first time ever.

I sincerely hope so, he's a stand up guy, and holds strictly the constitutional principles that no one else seems to value any more.

He also believes in real, sound money, not bogus fiat currency.

My only concern would be who to bring in as veep, i'd say Kucinich, but that's doubtful cause it'd be seen as a boat anchor against his chances of smacking some sense into the righty-tighties.

Ron walks his talk, and you gotta respect that, no matter what.

Back in 1988, Ron Paul ran as the presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party and got 400,000 votes. He is still highly respected and admired in the LP. If he runs, I wonder if the LP might even not run its own presidential candidate and support Paul's campaign instead.

He'd certainly get the vote of an increasing number of libertarian-minded Republicans who are fed up with a bloated government.

I thought that said Rupaul for President....

Now that would be an interesting Cabinet. I imagine all the soldiers would be fabulously dressed with only the most stunning accesories, like the mink tote to carry all those designer hand grenades.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

That was my first thought too. Then I corrected myself, again. Ron Paul is just not as widely known.

We could run Ru Paul as veep, i suppose, although i have the sneaking suspicioun that in his heart he might be more evil then Cheney... cause, yanno, all the evil big bad guys, they've got really cool wardrobes, right ?

Quick headsup before I head out to work...

Been monitoring reaction to this news over a very broad range of political fronts, and summary is as thus.

Libertarians - creaming their jeans, obviously.

Conservatives - Jumping for joy at the idea, they seem delighted most in that RP values american sovereignity (anti-NAFTA, etc) and truly believes in limited government backed by sound financial management.

Liberals - Seem quite happy about it, hearing lots of admiration for RP's stance on privacy issues and non-intervention in foreign conflicts.

RightWingNuts - Seem to be tearing their hair out by the roots, but am seeing a very divided response, the more constitutialist are having a go at the more imperialist in there, and it's gettin ugly.

LeftWingNuts - They don't seem to trust him, and would rather have Hillary, but seem willing to "put up with him" since he's not going to actively hound them.

Moderates - "Ron who?" seem a bit confused, but those who know who he is are laughing up their sleeve and preparing to support him.

Greens - Seem a bit annoyed, they wanted to run Nader, and don't seem to think RP cares too much about their "issues".

Anarchists - Seem to be as happy about it as possible given their stance, less government the better, and RP is a firm believer in that - the debate amongst them seems to center around whether to contribute to a process they feel feeds the beast (voting) but those who can somehow rationalize it would vote for him.

Gun Nuts (general, all factions) - They seem ecstatic, since RP is a firm believer in those amendments, particularly the 2nd, without restriction.

Overall the only folks I see that are spitting tacks about it are the entrenched, established elite, cause they feel he's gonna take away their toys and perks - which he probably will.

The media is kinda wobbly on him, case of divided loyalties to the above, and concerned he may act against them in some fashion, or address their monopolies by reducing government barriers to actual competition, they don't like that idea at all.

He's also gettin in early enough to get name recognition and make use of whatever 'friendly' media he can co-opt before the established regime can cut him off or shut him up... and I suspect he has the sense to protect himself from being "Bulworthed" more effectively than most candidates.
(I forsee such a thing as entirely possible should he pursue this)

So, can he ride a groundswell of popular support into the white house in 2008 ?
I suppose we're about to find out.

ROFL.

Nice analysis. My fingers are crossed that you're right.

Big question is, how many belong to the entrenched, established elite and how many others will follow the enticing tune of this power elite?

if we can even get a candidate in the running who is actually pro-constitution it would be a miracle; but im afraid you guys are right.. and the establishment media would mount opposition to him and attempt to drag his name through the mud. but hes certainly got my support.. its just difficult at this point for anti-NWO representatives to even enter into the 'game', and change the corruption at the intll levels.

im not getting my hopes up, but i would consider it a blessing if we got someone other than the two skull and bones members we had running against eachother the last election; otherwise we can just kiss it all goodbye anyways

Antimason, another question is who's to say the elite would accept it even if he won ?

Some case examples (and damned interesting history) regarding the refusal to seat members of congress for example, and by no means is this a comprehensive list.

Victor Berger - 1918 (Refusal to Support WWI)
Theodore Bilbo - 1947 (Extreme Racism)
Julian Bond - 1965 (Refusal to Support Vietnam war)
Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. - 1967 (Ethics Concerns)
Richard McIntyre - 1984 (Election Chicanery)
Vern Buchanan - 2007 (Election Chicanery)

I won't even get into the issues regarding the so-called reconstruction cause it'd take too long.

Basically, when someone beats them at their own game, they suddenly decide the rules don't apply to them anymore, and keep right on playing, you see.
Historically, any time the rules have gotten in the way, they've been ignored and discarded, and the only check against that is angry mobs.

Not peaceful, easily-dismissed, sign holding mobs in a "free speech zone" in the basement of a parking garage six miles away - angry, violent mobs tearing the place down around their ears, period end of story.

Compare what happened to the WTO in Oregon in 1999, when "the people" played hardball - versus when "the people" played *nice* for the FTAA in Florida in 2003 ?

The WTO was run right out of town, and in fact there was overall LESS violence than in florida, where the FTAA not only went off smoothly, but the jackbooted thugs of the militarized cops visited horror on the folks who thought playing nice would save them from a billy club upside the head.

Why bother with agents provokateur anymore, just plant some fluffhead to parrot "we can't do that, it's be illegal, we'll get in trouble.." to the folks and watch the stupid pansies muzzle themselves, right ?

And don't even get me started on the 82nd Airborne going door to door with a gun registry in hand in NOLA taking them from citizens trying to defend their property and person against armed looters - every one of them who participated should be swingin from a rope, and the citizens SHOULD have ambushed em and done it.

Think hard about HOW the horror of COINTELPRO was exposed, you think those people got it done via licking the masters fingers via FOIA ? please.

We The People are the sovereigns of this nation, and if things don't happen the way they are supposed to, it's OUR JOB to ensure that it does, regardless of 'the law' because those laws exist to serve US, constitutionally any power that is not specifically given to the fedgov belongs to US, and is ours to enforce.

They're not the masters, we're not the servants, and thinking that way is what got us into the mess we're in now.

Really, what it comes down to, is that most people are afraid of the warlords gang of armed thugs (aka police), but constitutionally, that's all they are when used to confront the will of the people, armed thugs.

If you think PEACEFUL protest accomplishes anything, ask the bonus marchers how well that went off.

Ergo, if they "play rough" so should we.
Nothin yer riskin can't be taken away on a politicans whim anyhow.

"Six hours later, Hillary stepped into the Grand Foyer with her husband. Ringing the foyer was the permanent household staff, there to bid the Clintons good-bye. From the beginning of their tenure here, the Clintons had rubbed many staff members the wrong way with their lack of punctuality, their oddly imperious manner (at first Hillary instructed staffers not to make eye contact when she passed by), their hair-trigger tempers, their unpredictable hours (Hillary and Bill often rang up the staff at 2 or 3 A.M. to demand something), and their unnerving penchant for shouting Anglo-Saxonisms at the tops of their lungs—at aides, and at each other."

I think I'll vote for Dr No, a/k/a Ron Paul MD, Vietnam medic, "The Taxpayer's Best Friend", even after the Bush-Clinton Gang kills him. Ross Perot dropped out with the official reason that Bush Sr was plotting to murder his family at his daughter's wedding.

Dr Ron Paul MD warns the Bush Gang will stage another fake Gulf of Tonkin Incident to officially start Iran War

"Mr. Speaker, my subject today is whether America is a police state. If we are, what are we going to do about it? Most police states, surprisingly, come about through the democratic process with majority support. The masses are easily led to believe that security and liberty are mutually exclusive, and demand for security far exceeds that for liberty. Our government already keeps close tabs on just about everything we do and requires official permission for nearly all of our activities. One might take a look at our Capitol for any evidence of a police state. We see: barricades, metal detectors, police, military soldiers at times, dogs, ID badges required for every move, vehicles checked at airports and throughout the Capitol. The people are totally disarmed, except for the police and the criminals. But worse yet, surveillance cameras in Washington are everywhere to ensure our safety. Like gun control, people control hurts law-abiding citizens much more than the law-breakers. Centralized control and regulations are required in a police state. Not only do we need a license to drive, but we also need special belts, bags, buzzers, seats and environmentally dictated speed limits. Or a policeman will be pulling us over to levy a fine, and he will be toting a gun for sure. Let's reject the police state."
—Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, MD (R-TX, 1988 Libertarian Party candidate for President), speech in House of Representatives, United States Congress, "Are We Doomed To Be a Police State?" June 27, 2002

Roger that.

The Bush Crime Family arrested Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes, Republican candidate John Buchanan, Green Party nominee David Cobb, Libertarian Party nominee Michael Badnarick, and tried to arrest Green Party nominee Ralph Nader, at the presidential debates.

That's democracy in a totalitarian dictatorship.

Quote:

"As some of you may know, I had a ticket to go to the adjoining auditorium on closed circuit TV at the University of Massachusettes to watch the first debate which is in another auditorium on the same campus in early October [2000]. And I got off the bus and there waiting for me, and me only, was the security representative of the debate commission with the guru who prompted him into this role in the shadows [crowd laughs]. Flanked by a state trooper and two police of the University of Massachusettes. And the gentleman who is the security consultant refused at first to identify himself when I asked him to, and he finally did. He said, 'Whether or not you have a ticket I have bad news, prompted by the Debate Commission, to ask you to leave.' To which I said, in my own mind, Archi Bunker style, 'Well, la-de-da!' [crowd laughs]. So, this utter expression of disbelief that I was in the cradle of American Revolution, this state trooper steps forward, and he says, 'Mr. Nader, if you do not leave, I'm going to have to arrest you!' [crowd hollers]. To which I said, in my mind, 'What the hell is going on?!' [crowd laughs] 'I'll see you guys in court!' And since I always prefer to be a plaintiff rather than a defendant [crowd laughs] I went back on the bus, and a week later, hauled him into federal court in Boston. Including the Debate Commission, which we're going to take apart in the next two years. [loud cheers and clapping] Which is a private corporation created by the two parties in 1988 to throw off the League of Women Voters from sponsoring presidential debate, and they decide the rules and the number of debates for the two parties, who asks them the questions, and they fund it with Ford, ATT, Anhauser Busch money. Someone said, 'Are you going to go to the St. Louis Anhauser Busch Ford Debate?' [crowd laughs] So, we also sued the security consultant, and then we sued the state trooper. And I was asked in the deposition, 'Why did you sue the state trooper? He was only doing his job?' I said, "Because I told the state trooper at the time, 'Sergeant, you are being given an unlawful political order by a private corporation, utilizing public property.'" And he refused to listen. State troopers are not automatons. They've got minds of their own. They've got to be able to decide that they are not going to execute an illegal order. I was not charged with being disruptive, with throwing rocks, with anything. There was no evidence of that. They wanted to exclude me for one reason only: 'They didn't like me.' So now we are teaching him a civics lesson, he's got to hire his lawyer. [crowd laughs] I'm sure other state troopers will become a little more 'independent minded' in the future. I can't say I didn't warn him." [loud cheers]
