It's not necessarily cynical if it's true. But I'm not so sure it is. The reason nearly every politician gets caught up in the 'game' is because of the compromises they make. They do their share of dirty, thinking it's the only way to get into a position of power. But when they get there, they're caught up in all kinds of bs that keeps them from doing the right thing.

You might be right, it may take a sinister SOB to make it all the way to the white house (though we're all screwed if that's the case). But I don't think it's true that politicians have to be assholes to govern effectively.

Hells Bells Sarge, I'd *take* an asshole by now if they COULD govern effectively, we haven't had a competent prez in a long, long time.
Ron's the only one of this bunch I got any hope for, cause the rest of em are just the usual hacks and the status quo is killin us as a country.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I read a book that says that the USA as a whole is an addict in denial about their condition, and that we have to hit bottom before we learn that our previous ideas were wrong. One of those ideas in the belief in a Hero. And counting on an *sshole President- a Hero- to "clean things up" is just asking for fascism.

Denial? Not sure about that. Most folks have a sense that things are not right; the problem is how to fix it short of revolution. Big money has it's hands deep in the political process. Local politics not so much; but once you hit state level and beyond....

Even with revolution, there's no unified direction folks want to take things. Some fundamentalists want to establish a theocracy; while other side of the extreme want to strip churches of their exempt status if they so much as comment on a political issue.

We have diversity, I'll say that. What we seem to lack is an understanding of our common interest; and a direction of how to achieve something which better meets that interest than what we have.

There is a large difference between running for office and running your mouth, IMHO (no, not your mouth Rue). Representing constituents is different than using your celebrity status to push your pet cause.

This quote made me recall another thread about military backgrounds for perspective presidential candidates. A number of Posters stated that the President only had to be smart enough to mete out duties and responsibilities to more knowledgeable persons. So should the president be the delegator or the decider?

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"So should the president be the delegator or the decider?"

You missed a REALLY imprortant thought on your way to being snide. The delegator is still in charge - you can be a delegator AND a decider. The shill is being run by others. Duh.

Apologies Sarg, I must have been communicating poorly. I don't think politicians need to be corrupt assholes to get into office. I just think someone who starts out with a great message...like Ron Paul...whom if elected...stands before no greater challenge in the world when it comes to keeping that message from being diluded to the point of ineffectiveness by the compromises that would need to be made in our system.

Count me in...and you know...I've got all the Ron Paul campaign downloads and I've been toying with the idea of going to my neighbors and campaigning. I've also registered on the web site and volunteered if they need me. After all, this campaign could be an internet revolution. I mean...I have to try something. Bitching on FFN is really fun but not productive enough. If I at least sway 3 people I can say I did my part.

I'm stating the obvious I know...but he's just trying to get at the Jewish vote here I bet. I wonder what kind of smoke screen Fred is anyway. Why would the RNC do that? Fox gives him airtime so you know the RNC approves. Any guesses?

FRED THOMPSON MARRIES RETIRED STRIPPER

Pervert family values: Frederick with his newest wife Jeri Kehn

Creepy old fart has cancer, which must be a turn on for golddiggers.

Thompson divorced family values:
Quote:

In 1982, Thompson lobbied the U.S. Congress for deregulation of the Savings and Loan (S&L) industry. His recommendations were incorporated in the Garn - St Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982, which allowed thrifts to invest in potentially more profitable, but riskier, ventures; eliminated interest-rate ceilings on new accounts; and granted additional government support to ailing S&Ls. This Act was a contributing factor to the Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s.

In March 2003, Thompson was featured in a commercial by the pro-war group Citizens United that advocated the invasion of Iraq, stating: "When people ask what has Saddam done to us, I ask, what had the 9/11 hijackers done to us -- before 9/11."

In 2006 he served on the advisory board of the legal defense fund for I. Lewis ("Scooter") Libby, Jr, who was indicted and later convicted of lying to federal investigators during their investigation of the Plame affair.

On May 2, 2007, Thompson wrote an article critical of Cuba's government-run health care, and of filmmaker Michael Moore's visit to Cuba. Moore responded on May 15, 2007 with a challenge for a health care debate. Moore also cited the fact that Thompson was mentioned in an article to own several boxes of Cuban cigars, calling Thompson a hypocrite.

In 1959, at the age of 17, Thompson married Sarah Elizabeth Lindsey. They had three children, two of whom are alive, and they now have five grandchildren. They divorced in 1984.

On June 29, 2002, Thompson, then aged 59 married Jeri Kehn, then 35.

Fred was "campaign manager" for TN senator Howard "Watergate" Baker, trial lawyer owner of the Memphis law firm that called itself "The Firm", which was the model for John Grisham's novel and movie starring homosexual Jewish Scientiologist Tom "I'm From Outer Space" Cruise, about a Jewish Mafia lawfirm in Memphis. Baker was the lawyer for the convicted mobsters running BFI/WM towtrucking chopshop cartheft cartel with world HQ in Tennessee, sued in class actions for stealing 2 of my cars, before being bought out by Bush Gang's Carlyle Group (CIA/MI6) to bomb US soldiers in Iraq.

Ex-GOP Congressman Joe "A Dingo Killed My Intern" Scarborough called Fred's wife a stripper on MSNBC:

Quote:

SCARBOROUGH: Have you seen Fred Thompson’s wife?
CRAWFORD: Oh, yeah.
SCARBOROUGH: You think she thinks she works the pole?
CRAWFORD: That’s what a Hollywood career will do for you, I guess.
SCARBOROUGH: What do you mean?
CRAWFORD: You get wives like that.
SCARBOROUGH: I mean, look at that guy. God bless him, I love his voice. But I mean, you know. He ain’t Robert Redford in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
CRAWFORD: Well I would like to see him back into politics because I think he’s a lousy actor.

www.palmettoscoop.com/2007/06/04/scarborough-has-an-imus-moment/

On July 20, 2001, one of Scarborough's aides died after hitting her head on a desk when she fainted while alone in Scarborough's Fort Walton Beach, Florida, office. According to Scarborough, soon after her death allegations "spread all over the Internet" that he had been involved, although there was no evidence of foul play. In 2003, he joked about the incident with Don Imus on Imus' radio program and, in 2004, it was the subject of a public spat between Scarborough and filmmaker Michael Moore. Michael Moore accused Scarborough of wrongdoing, even though he was in his Washington, DC, office at the time of his aide's death.

A Death in the Congressman's Office -
Does Anybody in the Press Care About Lori Klausutis?

A young female employee of one of Florida's Congressmen had died unexpectedly in the Congressman's office. There were no witnesses to her death and the cause of death was not apparent. Klausutis' boss, Joe Scarborough had recently resigned from Congress prematurely and unexpectedly, amid rumors about his marital fidelity and soon after a divorce. He had also abruptly resigned as publisher of the Independent Florida Sun, claiming that resigning from Congress and as publisher was necessary to spend more time with his sons. The results of the mandated autopsy, however, were deemed "inconclusive" by Dr. Michael Berkland.
www.oldamericancentury.org/lori_klausutis.htm

To be fair, Scarborough might have been targeted for exposing mercury in vaccines that cause brain damage in kids, including Joe's son. How many dead interns are in Fred's closet, male or female?
