Russia is China's largest supplier of military weapons. I remember hearing that Russia and China were also working out an oil pipeline deal. I'm not sure what Russia is getting out of those deals- an ally perhaps?

The fact that they moved the following joint exercises to central Asia is a warning shot across the bow of a number of potential interlopers.... for example, the USA bombing or invading Iran.

2) The fact that they released pictures might mean that they are no longer trying to influence the USA government, which they may consider just simply out to lunch, but reaching directly to "the masses". Words are just- yanno- words. Nobody perked up about the joint exercises in Siberia, but THIS will definitely get attention.
