First he invites the "repressor" of free speech to speak there....then he proceeds to chastise and criticize him with harsh insults. How dishonest is that? If you invite someone, you don't then insult and bash your guest. Bollinger doesn't speak for America, or me. He embarrassed all Americans with his childish scoldings of a visiting Head of State. He should have just politely introduced the manaic and let him have his say, since that is what the Columbia student-idiots were there for. To them, this guy is more liked and less "dangerous" than Bush. This is the same venue where the Minutemen were speaking recently, and had the stage rushed by illegal alien supporters. They were invited guests, and they were treated like animals, with almost zero security in place. Columbia is one fucked-up place.

America loves a winner!

Hey, he gave the uber Left exactly what they wanted AND he got the little nut job to admit to the world that there just aren't any homosexuals over in Iran like there are here.

Priceless.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I agree totally, Jongstraw. I agree espescially that Columbia is one rightously screwed up place.
"Student idiots" is kind of harsh, though. Mannerless children, mayhap?

Mannerless children for sure. Student-idiots?...well I saw some of them talking to reporters saying that they want to hear him because they cannot rely on newspapers and the media to get the truth. I guess they never EVER even tried finding out about this maniac, because just about every day he screams for all the wrold to hear Death To America, Death To Israel...and his Holocaust-deniers convention last year was well covered....SO...these "children" at Columbia...they're supposed to be smart?...supposed to be Ivy Leaguers? To me they seem like spoiled rotten un-grateful little punk America haters for the most part. There are a few "enlightened" students there who know the score, but most are doing the " I hate America" thing to be cool and get girls.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

I believe that when you invite someone over, it's your duty to be respectful of them no matter who they are.

The kid who wanted to hear what the man had to say for himself? He's got the right idea. It's like having an interview with Stalin or Hitler. Why would you f*ck that up? You can spend an hour of your time insulting these people whenever you want. When they're invited to speak at a University, you really ought to be learning from them.

Of course, that doesn't mean you'll be learning what they think they're teaching.

I couldn't agree more Anthony. The President, Bollinger, seems to me to be immature and un-professional. HE SHOWED the whole world what rude behavior and ill manners are, and I believe his entire legacy there will be one of disgrace and shame for Columbia. I expect the Board of Regents to fire him, not because it's appropriate, but because their alumni donations will disappear.

I think Bollinger was a little over the top, but the questions that were asked were not. Now I’m not sure exactly why Bollinger’s demeanor was so audacious, but I can think of two reasons, either it occurred to him on the day of the speech that he had invited the head of a totalitarian terrorist state to speak at his University and realized that the only way to keep this from being a huge mistake for Columbia needed to make sure that the position of Columbia was very clearly indicated, or that knowing that Ahmadinejad is as extremely charming and cunning speaker that he felt he needed to set the Iranian president on the defensive if he had any hopes of getting anything resembling an honest response from him. Probably a little of both.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

Really? I expect the opposite. From some of the background material put out about Columbia in the runup, it appears to be a very Jewish school, with large numbers of Jewish students and Alums. I'm sure they appreciated the speech.

As an aside, PN has so poisoned this board that I always shudder to type the word "Jewish" for fear it will set him off.

You've got a point, but if I had the opportunity to tell the Iranian prez just how disgusting I find him, I would probably take the opportunity.

Color me conflicted.
