Yeah, the official name was never "Mormon". It's actually a nickname from the Book of Mormon. I think that's part of the reason that people assume that we're not Christians because that name doesn't appear anywhere in the Bible.

Second, and I apologize to any Jehova Witnesses out there - but I don't know anyone who takes Jehova Witnesses seriously.

Hello Succatash,

There's at least 6 million people who take the religion seriously. I am not a Witness myself, but I had the pleasure of studying with them for several months in my younger youth. I found them inflexible in their interpretations, but generally well intentioned.

I rank them more reasonable than the Church of Christ, Scientist, which has a little less than half a million members worldwide. They believe that God's creations are all perfect, and so anything perceived to be imperfect amongst his creation must be the unreal illusion of an evil force. Hence, by prayer, all illnesses (which are illusionary) can be cast aside.

But even they are more reasonable than the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing. You probably know them as the Shakers. Their communities attracted some 200,000 members over the course of a century, but their policies resulted in their own extinction. They believed in complete celibacy... which makes it hard to breed new followers. It's also hard to sell new people to your religion on the premise of "No sex, not ever."

In general, though, no matter how alien a religious group seems to me (Scientology springs to mind) I generally let them define themselves and enjoy their beliefs in peace. If they aren't hurting me, I don't feel compelled to denigrate them.

Anthony ?

Therein lies the root of my hostility to the belief and those who practice it.

Believe what ya will, but when folks start advocating my death, or mis-using the government to enforce those beliefs or morals upon me - that being the root of "abstinence-only", "intelligent design" and even prohibition, which started as the temperance movement, and it's idiocies and flaws are still with us in the second incarnation of that utter idiocy that we call the "war on drugs", or making womens health and life choices for them...

Well, at that point you're pushing your beliefs and morals on me with force and violence (because that's what Government, in essence, IS) and I do not take too kindly to that... and sure, those jerks may not speak for you specifically, but when the great mass of the belief accepts them, or at least does not virulently reject and cast them out, then by default they are indeed representing the belief, especially to those who do not practice it.
(am I really the only one who wants to beat Pat Robertson senseless with one of them "satanic" rainbow brite dolls ?.. I doubt it.)

I'm a live and let live kinda guy, but when a belief system, any belief system, wishes harm or coercion upon me as a matter of policy, then I consider it, and anyone who practices it, as a threat and potential enemy till proven otherwise.

Now, that being said... I never ask what, specifically, someone believes, because individually, I do not feel it matters, what matters to me is what they DO, because it is by their actions that I see who they really are.

If faith is part of that, more power to em, long as they don't go pushing it off on me, or trying to get society and the gov to do so for them.

And while I find Romney despicable, that has not a thing to do with his beliefs, but rather his relationship to some very ugly business via Sembler and Lichfield.

I don't get WHY folks split hairs on something like faith, why does it matter what someone else believes if it satisfies them and they've no intent to inflict it upon you ?

I mean, where does it really MATTER what goes on in someone elses mind, as long as they treat other folk decently ?

Cause I just ain't gettin why it would... ever.

Actually I'd like to send him and the crazy Islamic Fundamentalist fuckwits to some island somewhere. Let the majority of us, including Muslims, get on with our lives and stop these cunts from trying to use us as intermediaries in there fucked up games. Let both sets of genocidal toss pots fight each other, and leave the rest of us out of it.

Maybe that's just me.

If a Church believes in Christ then its Christian. Its "brothers in Christ" not "indentical clones with no room for interpretation in Christ".

Me, I'm a Methodist but my particular version of Methodism does not allow the consumption of carrots and demands I spend every other Sunday from Sept-December worshiping at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Nope, that's been my opinion for well over a decade now, only we should make sure to send the damn fools who willingly and in thier celebrated ignorance allow themselves to be used as tools by these goons, right along with em.

Just not on Fridays...

I remember being told the best way to avoid sinning was to avoid the occasion of sin and therefor stay away from ballparks during Lent because I would be tempted to eat a hot dog. I got around that by ordering nachos.

Tash, interesting question. I consider most of the faiths described here to be Christian. From my understanding they all believe in Christ the Son of and one with God (this is how I, little ol' me, define it). That said, I think those that liken him to a prophet are not Christians.

I've known and befriended many Mormons and they've been good-hearted people. I've had more horrid experiences with Baptists and Church of Christers than any other faiths, Christian or not.

I'll stick with the crowd on this one: it's what you do, not what you believe that matters.

Everybody knows that worshipping Lucifer is Christian, since Freemasons founded Church of Mormon and run most other churches in USA. Jewish General Albert Pike says Lucifer is god, and he's the pope of Freemasonry and wrote their bible, Morals and Dogma.

Mitt Romney believes space alien sex addicts run planet Earth

Cartoon by ex Mormons explains their imaginary god man named Elohim and his dozens of virgin wives planet near a star named Cola, had endless sex and spawned billions of children, including Jesus and his brother Lucifer. Negros were born from lazy angels who refused to do good works on Earth. Hilarity ensued along with endless fornication. Jesus had 3 wives on Earth, with plenty of children. Each Mormon wants to be promoted to polygomous gods.

SciFi, just like Scientology. Multiple wives are shiny!
