In a few places the price increases have led to violence. In Yemen, prices for bread and other foods have nearly doubled in the past four months, setting off a string of demonstrations and riots in which at least a dozen people were killed. In Morocco, 34 people were sentenced to prison on Wednesday for participating in riots over food prices, the Moroccan state news service reported. Even tightly controlled Jordan has had nonviolent demonstrations and strikes.

That's why the seed vault was filled in Sweden (or Norway) this week. So when Monsanto's Terminator seeds destroy all crops on Earth, the elites can still survive.

This is one of them times I really wish you WERE crazy.

Man, I don't even wanna think about it, the way that Monsato shit drifts downwind and contaminates other fields, resulting what amounts to a hostile takeover by a stronger strain that does not reproduce - it chokes out natural strains and then dies off, leaving you with nothing in the end unless you wanna go back begging to them.

It's downright irresponsible to risk the entire worlds food supply for the sake of profit - and I still suspect that crap had something to do with the bee die-offs, all the evidence does point to it, although I doubt we'll ever have sufficient proof to make an issue of it.

Damn scary stuff, the lot of it.

Waaaiiitttt.....

Are you saying they bioengineered sterile seeds that contaminate normal seeds?

All I know is Monsato bioengineers seeds that contaminate neighboring fields, and when the neighbors sell seeds, Monsato sues the hell out of them. I didn't know about sterile seeds...

Please tell me more. Link would be great. Thanks.

Ohhhh my God, PN! I thought Monsato Terminator Seeds were some sort of paranoid crazy-talk. And there they are in Wikipedia.

I really hate it when you're right. Cause it is too goddamn scary.

These Monsato people are evil.

As an aside, I really really hate patent law.

Makes me sad...
And you know, when the US switches away from fossil fuels like oil, the OPEC nations will fall into the shitter, because that was the basis of their entire nation: Oil and sand, and I doubt peoiple will want sand when the oil stops spouting.
And this shit- food shortage and such- will only get worse down the road, because when you base your ENTIRE economy off of a finite resource... well, when it runs out, you are fucked.

http://www.mindfully.org/GE/GE4/Zambia-Rejects-GM-Food29oct02.htm

The Zambian Government has finally decided not to accept a donation of genetically modified food for nearly three million of its people facing famine.

The decision was taken after the Zambian Government despatched a team of scientists around the world to study the potential effects of importing GM crops.
Levy Mwanawasa, President of Zambia rejects genetically engineered food aid as 'poison.'

There's no justification for feeding people 'poison'

Levy Mwanawasa, President of Zambia

The food aid was initially offered by the international community to Zambia and five other Southern African countries, but President Levy Mwanawasa referred to the food as "poison".

"In view of the current scientific uncertainty surrounding the issue... government has decided to base its decision not to accept GM foods in Zambia on the precautionary principle," Agriculture Minister Mundia Sikatana said.

"The country should thus refrain from actions that might adversely affect human and animal health as well as harm the environment," he said.

The BBC's reporter in Lusaka, Penny Dale, says the government's controversial decision has sparked a huge political row in Zambia, with the opposition claiming people will die as a result.

Needs

World Food Programme Spokesman Richard Lee told the BBC that it would now be very difficult to meet the needs of the Zambian people.

He said his organisation was already only able to feed half of the people in need, and would have to work hard to find non-GM food.

The government would now ask the WFP to withdraw thousands of tonnes of US-donated grain that are in the country, Mr Sikatana said.

The US has supplied most food aid for the WFP's appeal for Southern Africa, where about 14 million people risk starvation.

Zambia needs 21,000 tonnes of food aid a month to feed more than 2.5 million people in the drought-hit south of the country.

Concern

Many Southern African nations have expressed deep concerns that GM food aid could be used to grow new crops and so enter the local food chain.

This could jeopardise exports to Europe, where GM food is less common than in the United States.

Several countries affected by the crisis have refused to accept unmilled GM maize but have agreed to accept ground meal.

US officials deny that there is any risk* involved with GM food and point out that it is eaten every day by millions of Americans.

Scary as hell when you think about the implications, isn't it, CTS ?

If you ever wanna see a farmer go freaking berserk, just mention that company and take cover.

Our locals are a bit paranoid to begin with, I've known em for years and they STILL won't lemme get a close look at some of the cars they have running on homemade bio-diesel cause they're afraid of being smacked with motor fuel taxes on their whole crop, or hassled under some obscure regulation by city officials pissed about paying sixty bucks to fill up their bloated SUVs.

At least this state doesn't give em hell about cranking out their own booze, as long as they do not sell it... some of it ain't half bad neither.

Frem, the more I read about Monsanto, the more I think they are the most evil corporation I've ever heard of. This Terminator seed business is beyond creepy. And the rash of suicides amongst Indian farmers? And the Monsanto v Schmeiser saga is disgusting.

If we left it up to mainstream media, we would never know about these monsters. Thank God for the internet and you guys.

Its funny this came up, as I had this same conversation with my mother last weekend.

She remarked that the govs in Europe seem to ban things until they are proven safe, while the US implements things until they are proven unsafe, with Canada somewhere inbetween.

The amazing thing is the control corporations have over the branches of of respective govs that are suppose to regulate industry.

Media, Science, Law is now only a matter of opinion... there are no longer absolutes such as truth.

All about the Seed Vault. Guess who is behind the project? Monsanto.

So they buy the technology to potentially sterilize all seeds, and then plan to own the only non-sterile seeds that will be left on earth.

Well, they win the Mordor Award for Most Evil Corporation 2007. Maybe even a Lifetime Achievement Award.
