In the end, there won’t even be fragments.

If nature is left to its own devices, about 7.59 billion years from now Earth will be dragged from its orbit by an engorged red Sun and spiral to a rapid vaporous death. That is the forecast according to new calculations by a pair of astronomers, Klaus-Peter Schroeder of the University of Guanajuato in Mexico and Robert Connon Smith of the University of Sussex in England.

America loves a winner!

That long ? I have seen somewhere that we only have around 3 billion yrs left. For the last 20 yrs, I've heard that our sun was at about it's mid life, being around 5 billion yrs old already, and is expected to last for some 12-10 billion yrs total. For the most part, i figured we had around 5 billion yrs left, then some latest calculation said we have only 3 billion yrs left. Now it's up to 7.6? Wow!

Oh great. I had plans 7.59 billion years from now. Now what? I'm going to have a call and cancel my reservations because I am not going out if the world is going to end. It's just too much hassle with the traffic and all. I know the Mrs is going to want to catch all the crazy "end of the world" sales at Dillard's where "everything must go," but I just don't want to deal with it.
