WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Puerto Rico Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá and 12 others were indicted Monday on criminal charges related to campaign financing, the Justice Department announced Thursday. The indictment charges Acevedo and the co-defendants with making illegal campaign contributions to Acevedo's campaigns in 2000, 2002 and 2004. The charges include conspiracy, false statements, wire fraud, federal program fraud and tax crimes. The defendants could serve prison sentences and pay large fines if convicted. Acevedo has been governor of Puerto Rico since 2005. He is a Democrat and supports Sen. Barack Obama for president.

No intent by the press release to wait until the end to mention that Anibal is a Democrat. Had it been a Republican, I'm sure we'd have seen it reported in EXACTLY the same manner.

Oh, and I think that he's not only a delegate for Obama, he's a super delegate. If he can't participate, there's no recourse for a substittute to take his place. Once he's out, that's 1 less vote for Obama at the convention.

( Hillary had nothing to do w/ this, I'm certain )

Yeah, I'm sure you'd want to divert attention from the 3rd Democratic Governor in almost as many weeks to run afoul of the law.

Since the Dems took control of the Congress, the economy and gas prices have raced in opposite directions, both bad. The surge is working, thankfully, but I love how you slide in the obvious misnomer " large " stockpiles, when it's clear Iraq didn't need stockpiles of any size to be found in material breech of the U.N. ( Which, they were ) And the reports of more and more ties between Iraq and terrorist organizations, and now w/ Saddam financing the way for 3 US Congressmen to travel to Iraq for a well orchestrated photo op/ propaganda piece.

I like how folks presume that some of us actually GIVE A SHIT whether a corrupt politician is one party or another.

Throw em all in the slam, Rethug or Dimocrat, and let em come to an accomodation with the locals, but then, some of them Rethugs kinda like it like that, or so we've heard...

Lets test that out...here's the same article only this time...POOF...he's Republican:

That's my favorite part. That just kills me.

But in all honesty, if he were a Repuglican, wouldn't that be punishment enough? ;)

By what measure? The political benchmarks the Admin established? Nope - not even close. What was it, 3 out of 18? Bushies claim the surge is working when violence drops, and when it rises. So, by what measure is it working, other than you really, really want to say it is?

By what measure?...

The same one that measures things like 'slam dunk' and 'mission accomplished'.

Reasonable ones. The ones that look and the situation that was and compare it to the current situation as well as the desired situation. Those measures show us where we were, where we are, put those two into context with where we want to be.

I would suggest that the minor (compared to pre-surge levels) surge in violence this month, after over a year of decline is entirely predictable as we are moving into a new phase. Coalition forces have been handing over large amounts of local control to Iraqi military and police. This was an attempt to roll it back. It has failed. Likewise the local militias just got their collective asses kicked by the Iraqi Army (with Coalition air and artillery support) down in Basra. I'd call that signifigant progress.

Which is all good news. But I think it's still worth aknowledging that on almost ever single measure the surge was sold on, it has failed to work.

The problem is that there is no political progress. The US military did the surge to give the Iraqi politico's breathing space to make a breakthrough... guess that didn't happen.
