America loves a winner!

I'm not debating on whether the early signs of his illness were showing up in his 2nd term. But as per the concentration camps, Reagan was among the 1st to see photos of what was going on over there , long before the public ever did. He could very well have been speaking metaphorically, as he'd seen the images of the prison grounds before, via the photos, and was taking a bit of dramatic license with his recollection. Politicians are known to do such things. John F Kerry said that he recalls being in Cambodia on Christmas eve, and that memory was "seared into his memory " . It never happened. Is he suffering from memory loss ? Or just lying ?

It is not those who use the term "Islamo-Fascism" who are sullying the name of Islam; it is the Islamo-Fascists. - Dennis Prager

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I dismiss the rantings of a simple apologist & hero worshiper, however "fact-based" he believes himself to be

Oh, and don't forget: Reagan could fly, just like Nathan Petrelli- he just didn't feel the need for any MORE hero worship from guys like AU, so he rarely demonstrated this ability...

BTW, as far as Reagan is concerned, I could nevr get past the Laffer Curve, and Reagan's promise to (1) cut taxes (2) increase military spending and (3) balance the budget. As Reagan's budget director David Stockman confided, the supply-side rhetoric "was always a Trojan horse to bring down the top rate."

WHOO HOOO!!!!!! Well he managed two of three (as I predicted) but also created the largest deficit in history - only to be overtaken by GWB. heh heh heh. But there was more to Reagan than met the eye. There was...

Irangate. Bribing the government of Iran with arms to keep the hostages on ice until Reagan was elected.

Nicaragua. Supporting the Contras through drug money.

Grenada. The invasion of Camp Grenada. Who said that summer camp couldn't be fun?

Lebanon. Specifically, Beirut.

Star Wars. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! 'Nuf said.

AIDS. If you ignore it, it'll go away.

You never cease to amaze with your pathetically fractured view of history and the world. You and the rest of the 5%ers are just too far gone for words. Why don't you go on a tirade against Nancy Reagan...she's dead too( almost!...whoooopie!).

Jongsstraw, it would do you some good to follow Rap's lead and post something besides your opinion, which.... as they say... is like an *sshole 'cause everyone's got one.

I'm an old coot. I recall Reagan's campaign promise and I predicted that meeting all three goals would be impossible. At the time we chuckled about the approrpriatness of calling supply side the "Laffer" curve. I also remember his Presidency: He had one glorious success and many, many failures. He f*cked the Federal budget for years to come. I also recall his "tax reforms" which led to an INCREASE in tax on working folks... no surprise there! I'm sorry you were too stupid to see what was going on at the time. And I'm even sorrier to see that you haven't learned anything since.

So show me where I'm factually wrong.

In the words of Reagan, "There you go again..."

Facts will NOT be part of this discussion, Signy. I ask that you keep them to yourself to avoid hurting the feelings of Reagan worsh- I mean, Reagan fans.

I can understand why you can't get past the Laffer curve, you don't understand it in the slightest. The Laffer curve has nothing to do with two of the three items you mentioned. The fact that some have misused the curve and you have latched on to their definition doesn't make the curve wrong, just means you and others don't understand it. The issue you fail to deal with is revenues. How do you explain away the fact that it is possible to cut taxes and increase revenues by doing so. You are so blinded by your ideology you cant see it. Even Barack Obama in the recent debate conceded that his proposal to raise the capital gains tax won't increase revenues. He basically admitted that he wanted to do it to punish the rich, not to raise more revenue. You should be more honest like him and admit you want to raise taxes because you're a socialist and think you know better than the people how their money should be spent. The Laffer curve can't keep the government from growing, and that's what causes higher deficits, although if you look at deficits properly as a percentage of GDP you will see that we are within historical norms.

By the way, I know that it fits your preconceived notion to label Art Laffer a right wing conservative, but if you would do a little research you would find that he is not an idealogue like yourself, he is an economist. He voted for Bill Clinton twice and says that he was a great President.

Yes, it is theoretically possible to decrease taxes and increase revenues, but in actual practice it has never worked! A lot depends on how much you actually tax people, what happens to the tax money etc. I read up on Laffer a bit, and I thought he made it pretty clear that his curve was theoretical.

AFA "government growth" causing deficits... that's an unjustified assumption! Bring your facts to the table, man and en garde!
