just saw it over on CNN.com. Hot news , posted only 4 min ago. They apparrently found him guilty of some charges, not guilty on others

My preliminary reaction: this is an interesting balance- I could have expected the jury ( of military officers, in a military tribunal) to have rubber-stamped him guilty on all charges, and to have reccommended the death penalty.
It's too quick to tell, there are few details, but it seems like they evaluated the charges and facts with some subtlety.
Maybe they actually achieved justice.

And I'd have expected them to sentence him to the maximum allowable, but instead they gave him 5.5 years - and credit for 5 years' time served.

Odd that a military tribunal would be so lenient in their sentencing. Maybe there was some evidence that he wasn't really the worst guy on the face of the planet.

Although I do find it odd that the sentence was so light. After all, according to testimony, there were two rocket launchers in the trunk of the car when they nabbed him. If *I* were arrested with that kind of hardware, I'd be looking at a whole lot more than 5.5 years...
