Being interviewed on the Jim Lear News hour, James Earl Carter, our 39th President (and worst) refered to B.O. (who'll never be President) as "this black boy"....... HUH! Is it old age, or just losing his mind!? I bet for many of you this is the first you're hearing of this, why? If G.H.W. Bush had said something this stupid, I bet everyone would have heard about it, YA THINK!?

For the record, Carter was referring to when Obama was a boy, and Obama clearly was, and still is, black. "Black boy" would be an accurate and not racially denigrating term for Obama in his youth.

I agree with your interpretation BUT the line could be reasonable interpreted in a negative fashion.

I agree that if a Republican had referred to Obama as "this black boy" then people, especially Democrats, would jump to the negative conclusion. Compare the negative press a certain Republican got for praising Strom Thurrmond at his funeral because of Strom's comments thirty years before he died to the lack of coverage a certain former Grand Wizard Democratic Senator got for using the N-word in a far more recent interview.

But as for this case, no harm, no foul.

Is it the inference that they are child-like when they should be an adult that is considered "offensive"? Or is it offensive on a racial matter?

And isn't that exactly the stink you're raising over it here? If you on the right don't find it racist at all, why was it brought up in the first place? Because you're trying to make it an issue, that's why. YOU are the ones calling it racist.

And you say it wasn't an issue when Clinton did it. That's a lie. You're lying, straight up. It WAS at least a BIT of an issue. Remember it being on the news? Obviously you remember it, so it's kind of hard to say that nothing was said about it.

And yes, people like Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter DO tend to get more of a pass on this kind of colloquial speech from black people than do haughty New England elitists like Bush, simply because Clinton and Carter are KNOWN to have grown up around and with black people - as equals and friends, not as housekeepers and maids. I'm not saying that it's fair or that it's right, but that's how it is perceived. Hey, Wulfie, YOU see a black area and assume that it must be a high-crime ghetto full of crack dealers and hoes... It ain't RIGHT, but that's what you see and what you say.

You have to ask yourself, is it different if, say, someone like Forest Whitaker says of Kobe Bryant "that boy can really play some ball" rather than if someone like, say, former Grand Wizard of the KKK David Duke were to say the exact same thing? They're both saying the exact same words, but their differing stances on the issue of race tend to "color" their words a bit differently. You see what I mean?

If Spike Lee calls me his "nigga", it's not quite exactly the same as if Bill Orally calls me his "nigger". Do you see that there IS a bit of a difference, depending on who's doing the saying?

Now, if the black community at large has an issue with Carter's remarks, I'm sure he'd be happy to apologize, because I think it's clear that he meant no disrespect to Obama; in fact, he's quite an admirer of this "black boy". Will Limbaugh offer the same apology for all the race-baiting things he's said about Obama, because it's obvious that the things he's saying are said from a position of no respect whatsoever.
