Its up to the English to fight back. Will they? I doubt it. The idea of the King/Queen/Parliment taking care of them is far too ingrained in their culture.

Quote:Originally posted by Jongsstraw: Wulf....Brits on this board never hesitate to offer their opinions on American politics and social issues, so don't feel like it's off limits for you. I knew the article I cited was from a lousy rag of a paper, so that's why I tried to have some fun with it. But then again, folks tend to get their backs up when you go after their country or their politics. Stay shiny!

Quote: They cut off my clothes with some kind of doctor's scalpel. I was naked. I tried to put on a brave face. But maybe I was going to be raped. Maybe they'd electrocute me. Maybe castrate me. They took the scalpel to my right chest. It was only a small cut. Maybe an inch. At first I just screamed ... I was just shocked, I wasn't expecting ... Then they cut my left chest. This time I didn't want to scream because I knew it was coming. One of them took my penis in his hand and began to make cuts. He did it once, and they stood still for maybe a minute, watching my reaction. I was in agony. They must have done this 20 to 30 times, in maybe two hours. There was blood all over. "I told you I was going to teach you who's the man," [one] eventually said. They cut all over my private parts. One of them said it would be better just to cut it off, as I would only breed terrorists. I asked for a doctor. Doctor No 1 carried a briefcase. "You're all right, aren't you? But I'm going to say a prayer for you." Doctor No 2 gave me an Alka-Seltzer for the pain. I told him about my penis. "I need to see it. How did this happen?" I told him. He looked like it was just another patient. "Put this cream on it two times a day. Morning and night." He gave me some kind of antibiotic. I was in Morocco for 18 months. Once they began this, they would do it to me about once a month. One time I asked a guard: "What's the point of this? I've got nothing I can say to them. I've told them everything I possibly could." "As far as I know, it's just to degrade you. So when you leave here, you'll have these scars and you'll never forget. So you'll always fear doing anything but what the US wants." Later, when a US airplane picked me up the following January, a female MP took pictures. She was one of the few Americans who ever showed me any sympathy. When she saw the injuries I had she gasped. They treated me and took more photos when I was in Kabul. Someone told me this was "to show Washington it's healing". www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2005/aug/02/terrorism.humanrights1

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)
Quote: This thread and the replies on it, however is not a valid comment on British politics. It's the immature whining of a pathetic troll wishing to offend. You may disagree with my opinion on American politics, but you could never say it is uninformed. At least, not if you're being objective and truthful, both of which, along with common Human decency, are seldom seen commodities on this board. Indeed I feel confident in the statement that on my off days I know more about American politics than most American's on this board know about British, more over I probably know more about American politics than most Americans. American politics effect mine, so I make it my business to know about it. Of course world politics effect American's, and American's don't tend to give a shit, so you may not understand that concept. I would note though, that the only time I'd make a stupid and inflammatory remark such as "Britain Sucks", is when speaking to some far right loony nationalist...

I had the opurtunity to speak with him while we were both waiting for different flights out of Ronald Reagan. Hes actually a good man. I don't doubt that he's a decent enough guy in person, but his political philosophy leaves much to be desired. If we were 200 years in the past, when the industrial revolution hadn't happened and the US was just another nothing country that no one but the Brits payed much attention to, then yeah, he'd be a good choice for president. Do I think governmental power should be limited? Yes. But Ron Paul's philosophy seems to be something along the lines of "hack off the arm to remove the cancer in the fingertip". If he had his way, the country would collapse in 10 years, because the infrastructure that maintained it would be gone. The man, regardless of how "good" he is, is a fool, and a dangerous one at that. ---------------------------- "Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then He is not omnipotent. Is He able but not willing? Then He is malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?" -Epicurus

Quote:Originally posted by AnthonyT: What Ron Paul would do, is reduce government size and spending, restore the value of currency, and cease foreign military entanglements while opening the floodgates of trade to all nations. This would have the impact of reducing the nation to a mere 'power' on the world stage instead of a 'superpower.' This is something I support, as I am not so full of bloated self-importance that I think the U.S. needs to be at the center of everything.

Believe me, comparing myself favourably to the witless self important morons, who immediately begin shouting insults the moment someone disagrees with them because they're incapable of accepting other view points or even forming a logical argument, is neither 'putting them down' nor building myself up. If anything it's relatively a compliment. More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes! No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.
