"I will defer to my more learned collegues" was the limit of McCain's participation in the grandstanding McCain and Bush called for and insisted on.

But I don't get why you hate Obama for this?

This mess is being solved by the Financial Services Committee, the Fed, the SEC, and Congress. Obama asked relevant and coherant questions of committee members and Paulson. McCain didn't say anything usefull, nor did he make any attempts to understand, and exerted none of the leadership he went to Washington to display. In light of this "why did he bother showing up?" is an extremely fair question...why hate anyone for asking that?
