Some of us think AUraptor is a bad ass dude. I just love threads like this one were single handed he takes on three liberals, one Brit and a retard. AUraptor is the only one in RWED that produces sources for his facts on demand and always backs up his claims. The fact that you all so readily dismiss the facts he presents just makes you all look like idiots. I may not always agree with AUraptor but he always has his facts straight.

Oh horseshit. Just a few posts up, he says that there is no way in hell the Iraq War had ANY effect on the mortgage collapse, which is utter and complete bullshit. BECAUSE Bush insisted on cranking the Fed's printing presses into full overdrive to keep the cash flowing, the value of the dollar fell as much as 60% - meaning that the home you bought with a loan for 110% of it value, is now worth far less than you borrowed to buy it, which means that you're throwing money down a deep, dark hole; many Americans are finding it easier just to walk away and start over - and that is a DIRECT result of the Bush policies, both as regards Iraq AND as regards regulation, the economy, the middle class, and American in general.

Kirk, YOU bring an argument, Geeze brings an argument, hell even Hero from his wacked out although applicable humor or legal takes on something, brings something worth debating, or at least mocking, to the party.

Rap generally depends on copy/pasted talking points and personal insult, when not resorting to outright fiction, and when pressed instead of presenting an actual defense based on his assessment of the situation, resorts to laughable justifications and downright flaming.

And hell yes, I am oh so very well aware he ain't the only one who does it, and that comes from both ends of the spectrum around here, still don't make it anything but stupid and useless.

I'll argue a point, heck, I will even argue the merits of a point that I think is wrong, in my sarcastic verbal bar brawl fashion, so long as I think it worth the time to argue the point in either direction, sure...

But with Rap, mostly I just point and laugh, cause even when something he shovels is absolutely, completely and firmly discredited or blown to bits (and he's brought some downright whoppers in his time) he just goes on as if it wasn't and that makes me question his contact with reality sometimes.

Which makes it all the worse on the rare occasions where he might have a point, cause he has so utterly discredited himself that no one is gonna bother arguing with the guy save to wind him up till he shows his true colors with a temper tantrum more appropriate to a young child than an adult arguing a political point.

And most of his sources are not exactly any more credible than the weekly world news, and often he deliberately obfuscates the source (which I caught him out on recently, you will recall) because he freakin knows that when he cherry picks his copy/pasted mush.

I do take issue with throwing the word Troll around, since much like PN, somewhere in there Rap actually has an arguement, but he's certainly no damn better at expressing it, and when he resorts to flaming instead of putting effort into getting concept across, folks just quit listenin.

Me, I just sit back and throw the verbal equivalent of rotten fruit at opportune moments, cause if there ain't no point in arguing it, then at least imma pull some entertainment value out of winding em up a little more.

I don't really have a lotta sympathy though, not when the inevitable end results of someones own actions catch up with them, yanno ?

Quote:

That's not quantifiable, and therefore out of the realm of factual or not.

Yeah, it is, actually. Pick up a newspaper or even watch CNN.
Quote:

It is MY OPINION that the cavalier attitude demonstrated by the current administration did nothing but embolden the weasles on Wall Street, and that they merely more furiously toiled at it, following the example set by your glorious leader. Okay, yeah, I didn't know Bush's boys had an eye on what was going down, or that they even voiced a protest, but it can't have been too loud a voice seeing as I never even heard of it before.

That you never heard a voice doesn't mean there never was one. Look up in the thread, brainless. I posted EXACTLY what the 'Bush boys ' were trying to do to solve this issue, YEARS in advance. It was as loud as it needed to be, at the time, and was specific enough for anyone. It's just the Dems simply didn't want to listen. And what the Dems don't want you to hear.....

September 11, 2003 – The Bush Administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry,

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

And the Dem's reply ? ON THE VERY SAME DAY......

These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these problems... the less we will see in terms of affordable housing. - Barney Frank, ( D ) Chair of the House Financial Services Committee

Now, you can either deal w/ the facts, or you can continue the dance of the ignorant, make asinine and juvenile remarks about how many women we've slept with or who got bullied the most when they were a child. I can understand your intense desire to continue side stepping the issue, because you're woefully uninformed on this matter, and as a defense mechanism, you're gleefully willing to throw up any and all manner of distractions.

I've posted these facts more than once in this thread alone, and not ONCE have you even attempted to reconcile what's been said in the least.

Until you do, I have nothing more left to prove.

G'day.

As Usual your accusations are only applicable to yourself.

This Post, made by you, has neither reference nor link. Your statement that "every quote or story I've presented is either referenced or linked" is a verifiable lie, as per usual.
Quote:

Actually, that is VERY TRUE. Groups like ACORN would protest banks and force them into making bad loans for undeserving applicants.

ACORN recognized very early the opportunity presented by the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977. As Stanley Kurtz has reported, ACORN proudly touted "affirmative action" lending and pressured banks to make subprime loans. Madeline Talbott, a Chicago ACORN leader, boasted of "dragging banks kicking and screaming" into dubious loans. And, as Sol Stern reported in City Journal, ACORN also found a remunerative niche as an "advisor" to banks seeking regulatory approval. "Thus we have J.P. Morgan & Co., the legatee of the man who once symbolized for many all that was supposedly evil about American capitalism, suddenly donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to ACORN." Is this a great country or what? As conservative community activist Robert Woodson put it, "The same corporations that pay ransom to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton pay ransom to ACORN."

Note the lack of cite, reference or even vague handwave to source.

That's a sentence from within the quote cup cake. A phrase that forms part of the cite, is not a reference to that cite, it's part of it, QED. The Stanley Kurtz thing is your quote making vague reference to it's source. It's not you making reference or link to anything. Even if it was, it falls far short of a useful cite, but of course such a distinction is probably beyond you...

Now, it is your assertion that "the Dems simply didn't want to listen". Do you have any kind of legislative backstory source on that to back up that claim? Was it ONLY the Democrats in Congress who wouldn't listen when Bush (who as a Conservative wants to SHRINK government, remember) proposed creating an entire new department within the government, aimed at taking away Congressional oversight and authority (and checks and balances, by the way) on financing and spending (which are, according to the Constitution, the actual JOB of the Congress)?

Was there legislation written up and proposed to Congress? Was there a vote in Congress on this proposal? Was the outcome of that vote 100% of the Democrats opposed to it and 100% of the Republicans in favor of it?

If not, then your claim that "the Dems simply wouldn't listen" is just more bullshit partisan spin on your part.

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

On-line screaming won't make your posts make any more sense, Rap.

The height of predatory lending was in 2003 - that was the ship hitting the iceberg.

Bad loans are not the same as predatory loans. Predatory lending by definition is fraudulent lending. It includes offering only subprime loans to people who qualify for regular loans (Fannie Mae estimates 51% of subprime loans were in that category), excessive fees, unnecessary products like insurance, abusive prepayment penalties, loan flipping and other practices. No one FORCED banks and lenders into these practices - they did it all themselves, out of greed. Well, they had the help of the administration through the office of the OCC which forbade ANY state regulatory action against these lenders. And where was the FDIC ? Checking on whether banks were properly capitalized for their loans ? No, it was asleep at the switch, just like the administration wanted.

F&F started acquiring those bad loans shortly thereafter, along with 'investment' banks who bought bundled mortgages - that was the ship taking on water, unbeknownst to the captain or senior crew.

Defaults started rising in 2005 - the alarm is sounded but everyone was trying to avoid panicking the passengers.

Mr. Syron head of Freddie Mac received numerous warnings from his analysts beginning in 2004. Fannie Mae analysts were heeded in 2005 and it began to limit its purchase of the loans. Banks buy out banks and lending institutions, like BofA buying Countrywide and Merrill Lynch, or American National Bank buying Citizens National Bank.

But the system can't keep up with the combination of failing predatory loans and falling home prices. Banks fail and are taken over by the FDIC. If you look at the timeline of FDIC bank failures you'll see very few - until 2008. Then they start to fall like dominoes.

The government tries 'bailouts' - though in this case we're talking about people 'bailing out' into the life rafts.

Oddly enough, just like with the Titanic the rich and powerful and the crew get the best seats first. They will mostly be spared.

The FIRST major player to be bailed out was NOT a quasi-government institution - it was Bear Stearns - through a government-backed purchase by JPMorgan. Then went Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and then AIG.

What does this tell you ?

It SHOULD tell you that the problem isn’t Freddy Mac or Fannie Mae. The illegal loans were already made. The ship was already fatally damaged. And even after those institutions were 'bailed-out' the problem continued to grow. Clearly F&F were not the cause of the problem - just more victims of the original cause.

By looking at the timeline it SHOULD tell you ACORN wasn't the problem either. Clearly ACORN did not practice predatory lending. That was already in place in 2003 when all 50 state governors and attorneys general tried to address the problem and were barred BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT from doing so. So ACORN wasn't the problem.

It SHOULD tell you that deregulation doesn't work. The primary problem was the massive number of predatory loans generated. When ONE TYPE of predatory loan accounts for over 50% of subprime loans and subprime laons are 17% of all loans, then you know the problem is very, very large. 8% of ALL loans are just ONE TYPE of pedatory loan. And then those loans were sold to F&F and investment banks.

So, why would anyone muzzle the regulators ? Because it created a bubble that made the economy look better than it was.

And who might want to do that ? I'm guessing the people in power during 2003 who hamstrung the regulators. You tell me who they are.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:

Hey, FUCKING DUMBASS.... do you even READ what is posted ?? Clearly, you don't , as I gave you a quote by the CHAIR of the House Financing Committee - BARNEY FRANK - DEMOCRAT. What's this...4th or 5th time I've had to post this here ??

Hey, shit-eater, take that dildo out of your mouth and answer the question:

HOW IS IT THAT THE REPUBLICANS, WHO WERE IN CONTROL OF BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS *AND* THE WHITE HOUSE, COULDN'T GET ANYTHING DONE ON THIS? AND HOW IS THAT THE DEMOCRATS' FAULT?

And, while you're at it, can you please explain to us all how Barney Frank was the Chair of the House "Financing" Committee back then, when the Republicans were in control of the House? Your quote is listed as "a quote by the CHAIR of the House Financing Committee - BARNEY FRANK - DEMOCRAT" as if he held that position at the time you're talking about. He didn't; that position was held by a Republican. Congressman Frank was merely one of 435 Representatives in the House, and only a member of the House Financial Services Committee, not its chair. That makes you either an idiot, or a liar. Probably both, given your track record.

Rupert Murdoch is clearly steering you wrong on this one. Again.

You keep trying to spin this as being ENTIRELY the Democrats' fault, even though the Republicans had majorities in both the House and the Senate, they had easily enough votes to enact anything they wanted, with or without help from the Democrats, and they had a President who apparently wanted to do so, AND they had the Chairs in each of the committees, since they were the power in control.

So if it was such a fucking great idea, how is it that Bush was unable to get support for it even among his own party? If the Democrats weren't listening, then clearly neither were Bush's own party members, who were in control of the House, and both chaired and steered that committee you keep calling Franks' committee.

This would be comparable to me laying the whole Waco/Branch Davidian thing at Bush's feet, saying "Governor Bush agreed to let the feds come in" - knowing full well that Bush wasn't the Governor of Texas at the time of the Mount Carmel siege, but assigning his later office to him at the time anyway. It's fraud, and it's a lie.

If you don't have the $$, there's no one putting a gun to your head to sign those ' predatory loans', which is a ridiculous premise from the start.

If there's fraud, that's one thing, but that's NOT what caused the mortgage criss we're facing today.

Nice try.

Are you saying there's no such thing as illegal predatory loans ? That all 50 state AGs didn't try to do something about them ? And that such loans are at a minimum 8% of ALL loans made ? And that a default rate of 8% (on top of the normal 2%) isn't enough to bring the system down ?

'Cause if you are then you're way further gone than I think.

I clarly stated that if there's fraud, then obviously that's a case for legal action. I'm not denying anything of the sort, but there's no way you can claim that illegal lending is what is at the root of the mortgage crisis.

Ah, I see. If someone said something in the last five or more years that has since turned out to be wrong, it proves how worthless they are. I see your logic now.

So it's now your stated position that John McCain is utterly unprepared to be President of the United States, yes?

After all, up until less than two weeks ago, he was still claiming that there was no crisis, and that our economy was strong.

I guess that means this is all his fault... After all, he claimed there was nothing wrong.

McCain never said 'nothing is wrong', he simply said the economy is strong. Not the most eloquent way of putting it, but the basis of our economy is still in tact, though there is reason for concern.

McCain may not be an economist, but at least he came back to D.C. and tried to do something about this " non crisis ", while Obama simply wanted to call it in from the road.

Looks to me that McCain is a far better leader than Obama, as he took a proactive attitude toward this whole issue, and Obama didn't.

Man, you are one stupid little dude.

Please explain to us all EXACTLY what it was that McCain did. What testimony did he give? What vote did he cast? In fact, name me one single vote that he's cast in the Senate since April 8, 2008. What meetings did he chair?

What did he do other than fall asleep while watching a meeting, then laugh about the whole problem during his photo op with Bush? What was the point of him even being there, other than as a limp-dicked attempt to revitalize his sagging campaign prospects?

What actions did he take? What vote did he influence? What was the outcome of all his "hard work"?

Please enlighten us all.

We'll wait.

McCain went to D.C. and worked w/ his party members while Obama called in from the road to find out what his positon was from folks who were there in D.C.

Obama can't think for himself. McCain can. McCain is the better man for President.

...and why are you so obsessed w/ McCain's junk ?
