But I saw an advert that said McCain won this debate.

Admittedly this was a few hours before the debate even started but still, John wouldn't lie to us, would he?

Seriously though, McCain put in his best performance yet, much more punchy and definitely much more ready to bring the fight to Obama. Yet I don't think he won even this one - Obama just looks like a steady set of hands and that's exactly what the country needs right now.

Oh and eloquence is a good thing for a world leader to have.

There were moments when I thought McCain was gonna double over with a heart attack, and I kept seeing Palin in the Oval Office with big moose antlers behind her and a look like Conan had at the end of the movie, I was shuddering....

McCain did better than I expected - he brought all he had and used it well, but in the end, not enough, I don't think.

Obama failed to follow up on a couple of gimme lines however, which is kind of him, but not gonna work when it gets down and dirty.

That one made me snicker..
"I am not President Bush. If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should've run four years ago."

Obama coulda really pasted him with that, if he had wanted to - I most certainly woulda followed up with something like...

"Oh yeah, better check in a mirror, because it sure sounds like it to me, especially since you're pushing essentially the same set of ruinously failed policies his administration has pursued in spite of the objections of most of their own constituents, so are you really so sure ?"

Delivered, of course, with a confident and gently patronising smile, inviting McCains notorious temper to compound the damage...

Obama was too nice - I woulda handed him his head on a plate every time he opened his mouth, but that's me...

-Frem

EDIT: This just in.
Chris Buckley, son of verbal pugilist William F Buckley, threw in for Obama and after subsquent blackballings from the "Conservative" movement, has left the National Review, while expressing his dismay and displeasure at this course of events, in part due to them abandoning core values he felt important.

There was a debate tonight?

Under no circumstances could a socialist ever win a debate.

It's pointless.

Good thing there wasn't a socialist in this debate, then.

Of course, your point is ludicrous in the first place - if two socialists were debating, a socialist would likely win.

You have no case.

Obama - " Nobody likes taxes "

Biden - "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

So, which is it, guys ? No one likes taxes, and you wish you didn't have to pay any? Or it's your patriotic duty, and we should feel good about giving your hard earned $$ up to Uncle Sam.

I personally like McCain's idea, that we pay ENOUGH in taxes, and the only way now to save our nation is to make actual cuts... not smaller increases in Gov't spending, but actual real cuts!

You're not real good with trying to hold more than one idea in your head at a time, are you? You can NOT LIKE paying taxes, but still feel that it's your solemn duty to do so, BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. Why's that so hard for you to figure out?

Of course, since in your world 95% of us don't pay any taxes whatsoever, it really doesn't matter whether we like paying them or not, since so few of us actually do so...

Oh, and McCain likes taxes. They pay his salary. Also his gold-plated healthcare plan. Without our tax money, McCain might have to go look on the open market for his health care, instead of having his employer provide it. Let's see how far a $5000 tax credit gets him.

There's something I'd like to see - a Senator willing to live the way he expects US to live.

The question of who won the debate is subjective. Most McCain supporters think McCain won. Most Obama supporters think Obama won.

Two important things to mention.

1. Joe the plumber fixed my septic tank a couple years ago. Did a good job. Different 'Joe the Plumber' but still...I got the point.

2. Joe the plumber thinks McCain won the debate and his demographic is the target voter here in Ohio.

So regardless of how this played in New York, Chicago, or LA...its how it played in Ohio that matters and locally, folks are suddenly fired up for McCain like I haven't seen since the start of the financial crisis.

The Obama camp is sending out mixed messages, for those who are paying attention, but I know that's not very many of us out here. Here's an inteview from the Howard Stern show, asking Obama supportes in Harlem, NY, why they support Obama - only the interviewer flipped McCain's policies w/ Obamas, and the unwitting public STILL voted for Obama. ( LANGUAGE ALERT ) http://beltwayblips.com/video/howard_stern_interviews_obama_supporters/

See, you're attempting a classic Left wing ruse. The argument is that of lowering taxes and making Gov't act more fiscally responsible while you're attempting to introduce a red herring by providing a false alternative, that of there being NO taxes , what so ever. At issue isn't " Obama is for taxes, McCain is for none ", but which candidate is for soaking the achievers in this country even more, and spreading the wealth around , when in fact, taxes are suppose to be raised for the purpose of RUNNING THE GOVERNMENT.

I'd hope a Senator would expect us to live on what we could EARN, and not be taxed to death by the never satisfied hunger of a Gov't which sees no ends or boundaries of control over our lives. And I think McCain could do just fine not being paid, for all the $$ his wife has from her families free market success.

Which criminal mafia won the "debate" to destroy USA?

Real debates don't ban 75% of the candidates.

Real debates don't censor 90% of the questions.

Real debates don't allow foreign candidates.

Real debates don't allow candidates to use alias names:
1. Abraham "Lincoln" Rothschild
2. "Gerald Ford" Leslie Lynch King Jr
3. Bill "Clinton" Blythe Rockefeller
4. Barack Hussein Obama Sotoro

"Obama" WILL be worse than George DWI Bush.

Jewish Goldman Sacks owns "Obama".

To stay out of prison, GOP NeoCons will take a dive in 2008, just like Demorats took a dive in 2000 and 2004.

I don't think most people are being swayed by the debates, to be honest. Both Hillary and McCain are seen as "part of the problem". Originally McCain was reluctant to make a strong argument for "change" for fear of offending the Bushites. Now that they've forgotten that Bush was their god (It only took a couple of months. They don't have good memories or strong reasoning skills.) and since the economic crisis McCain has redirected his message to "a new direction". But it's prolly too little too late to convince independents and the uncommitted. The best he can say is that he has hung onto HIS base, because they're willing to believe that he "gets it".

At this point, I don't think the debate is going to change anyone's mind if it's already made up. They're playing to the undecideds now, and on that score, Obama whipped McCain's tired old ass. Three polls I've seen show Obama "winning" among Undecided voters 55% to 22 or 23% - more than a 30-point drubbing of the White Devil.
