Just heard the news - a jury has convicted Alaska Senator Ted Stevens (R) on all counts.

Just in time for the election! He wanted a speedy trial so that he could be cleared before the election, not stopping to think of the gamble he was taking; if he loses, it's one more seat for the Democrats in the Senate. If he'd waited until AFTER his reelection for the trial and verdict, the Governor of Alaska would, I believe, get to hand-pick his replacement.

One word, Ted: WHOOPS!

Stevens is still on the ballot. Apparently being convicted of felonies and living in prison does not bar a convicted felon from employment in US Senate. Congressman Zack Wamp of TN is a convicted dope dealer.

Just like illegal aliens and convicted drunk drivers can be president of the United States.

Our local state senator pled guilty to "leaving the scene of a fatal accident", which somehow is not a felony like "hit and run". He "won" re-election 2 weeks later, allegedly. Then the state legislature named a highway for him.
