If I and other Conservatives can give Obama every chance and not pre-emptively bash him every second, why can't Bush haters just say he's a decent man??? I make a post saying that Bush will ultimately be blamed for the financial mess simply because Presidents are responsible for results during their term.....and I'm still attacked & the Bush hatred piling on continues. Its fucking ridiculous already. There is NO reconcilliation with these Liberal motherfuckers until they say something positive for fucking once about Bush. I want to hear that before I can move on.

Maybe because they're not remotely the same fuckin' thing???

Like you said - one side is "pre-emptively" bashing Obama before he's even taken the job. And there has been plenty of that, so don't act like the conservatives havn't been doing any.

The other is looking back at 8 years of history, and judging the man on what he's done.

You see - not the same thing. One side is going off what has, you know, actually happened. And sorry - we DO NOT see him as a decent guy. The other side is going off what they thik will, or are afraid will happen - but unless they have a souped-up Delorian, they DON'T FUCKING KNOW.

Not even close.

Look, I see a lot of opinions concerning Bush here, and they're ALL wrong. Let me & my omnipotent perception help y'all out:

Bush is NOT a bad man (try not to faint).

He may be many things, but he is a man who thought he was always doing the right thing, or trying to at least. You wanna know what his sin is? Pride. He wont come to grips with the fact that he's of very average intelligence. He actually thinks he knows what's going on. Cheney probably enables that perception.
Yeah, he made his pals happy with contracts like Blackwater got, but that wasn't ALL Bush, remember. 'Bad' is when peeps do stuff TO HURT others. Incompetence is when you hurt peeps through bad judgement.

Example: WMD wasn't a lie, it was a necessary semi-fabrication of what really was the case, & if it wasn't the case, there were other things as yet unknown that Saddam had or would use against the world.

See? It's not that black & white. He may have been a bad President, but for gosh sakes, let's give the poor guy a break at this juncture, eh? He's cryin' in his beer already.

Well said. Which ties back into my comments about evil in the Disney thread. I don't think Bush is evil - but some do, and for some of them, from their POV, they have good reason.

I do think he was trying to do what he thought was best. Doesn't mean he was right, or even competant about it.

However, just because I'll say he's not evil - doesn't mean I have to say he's a decent guy. His ego and obstinance, his refusal to ever take responsibility or admit to a mistake easily rule him out of that group, by my standards.

As for cutting him a break - fuck that. he wanted to be the guy in charge. He dropped the ball. Now he gets the blame.

That does not describe Mr. Bush, IMO.

Here's why I think about it the way I do --- let's say you're an average person, maybe not really good, but not really bad; not really smart, but not really stupid; not with a perfect memory, but not completely demented either. Just ... average.

You do one thing out of ignorance and it doesn't turn out the way you want. Let's say you tell people you have 'proof' bin Laden did 9/11, you get everyone fired up with words like 'dead or alive', invade the country, spend months looking for said proof you claimed to already have, and let bin Laden slip away.

As an average person, what do you do ? Do you go back and try and figure out where you went wrong ? Do you figure out how to make it right ? Or do you flush the whole misadventure and cook up another story to go somewhere else, and do the same stupid thing all over again, except with more lives at stake ?

If you are an average person, with average memory, intelligence and ethics, you learn a painful lesson. That lesson would be that going into an invasion under false pretenses with bad intell has a chance of blowing up in your face.

But if you never really intended to get bin Laden, and you were really interested in Hussein anyway, and you didn't care what you had to say and who had to die to get you what you wanted, that lesson would be moot.

It's not that he did one wrong thing and it came out badly. It's that he did them over and over. Which makes it seem on purpose rather than accidental. And therefore, evil.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I do not enjoy the tone of merciless aggression and unending vile insults spawned here in this thread. I wish there was a common ground between the zealots on both sides.

For my own part, it matters little whether Bush was 'evil' or 'good.' I don't personally believe he was 'evil' but the disposition of his soul is of little import.

He was a flawed leader who made some decisions that turned out to be wrong and some statements or suggestions that turned out to be untrue. He and his administration made enough mistakes to lose the popular support of the American people.

Now there is a new President and we all hope his presidency will help America to become stronger. We all hope he will be wise. We hope he will be more often right than wrong. We probably also hope he is a good person, and not an evil person, but none of us is in a position to know that. Not really.

It's time to stop throwing torches at people and start using them to light the way. Painting Bush as a Monster can not be more important than getting along with one another. Demonizing this president can not be more important than embracing the future prosperity of our nation. Bush just doesn't matter enough anymore. He's not worth this kind of vehemence on both sides.

Tomorrow is coming. I don't ask you to forget Yesterday, but I will ask you to stop living there and fighting there.

When people post this I have to disagree. The man lied to go to war - twice. He condoned torture, spied on innocent people, took away our freedoms, and drove a thriving economy into the ground, causing much current and future suffering. He also caused untold deaths worldwide with his 'abstinence only' anti-AIDS restrictions. His impact on the environment has yet to be measured.

And it's not like there weren't people - me for example - predicting these problems or pointing them out at the time. This is not 20/20 hindsight. And I'm not ready to say I was wrong when I was right.

Hello,

I suppose I wish there was a way to disagree without committing verbal Jihad against one another. Some of the words and phrases used here, if used in the same tone as in these posts, would get someone punched in the face in the real world.

I often envision the speakers glaring at each other, poking the other person in the chest, yelling epithets and curses at the top of their lungs, faces inches from one another, frothy spittle flying forth.

Maybe it's just me, but this is what these conversations look like.

Then imagine mine spoken in a low monotone from behind a genuinely nasty smile, cause that's how it's delivered.

And I disagree with your above statement because knowledge of History is the key to not repeating it's mistakes.

Every time this cycle goes round, folks forget just what these people really *ARE* underneath their polite little masks, they creep right back into the seat of power and drive us to the brink of ruination, and we never do recover all the ground we lose each time - it's like a decaying orbit, sooner or later, kerplunk.

Not on my watch, Anthony - the reason I will not let it go is because to do so is a gold plated invitation for it to happen all over again just as soon as the memory of these awful times fades.

The horrors of McCarthy and the Red Scare, and Nixon and Watergate... gave way to the sixties and the flower children, and then people forgot.

And inch by inch, these sleazebags (and remember I consider this irrespective of the political party they're hiding behind at the time) crawled back into power, aided and abetted by the kind and generous folk who's commentary has SO improved the quality of this thread.. *SNARK*

Frankly, there are indeed times when holding a grudge is the course of wisdom, and this is one of em.

Meanwhile Rappy has rather carefully avoided my specific questions, as usual.

In case he's forgotten what they were:

1) How did the Dems "protect" Fannie and Freddie from stricter regulation at a time when Republicans were in charge of Congress?

2) If 15% of at risk-loans had been avoided (by Fannie and Freddie) how would that have prevented an economic meltdown?

3) What effect did the other 85% have?

4) Who was responsible for those mortgages?

4) Can Rappy come up with one single example of a bank "forced" by government regulations or threat of lawsuit to make bad loans to poor people?

My patience grows thin w/ the likes of you, dumbass. Understand what is being discussed. Terrorist, captured on the field of battle, ( not in uniform ) who had intel which could save the lives of OUR soldiers or of innocents in Iraq, Afghanistan or hell, any where else, for that matter, don't deserve a lawyer or their day in OUR courts. Were we could have just shot them there, on the field, per Geneva Accord rules of engagement, we captured them, and asked , as best we could , to get what intel we could out of them.

How is this not getting through to you ? Oh, I know, you hate Bush. Nothing else matters.

What has been explained? That Fannie and Freddie, owning only 15% of a problem, caused 100% of an economic meltdown? That the Dems protected Fannie and Freddie even tho they weren't in power? That banks were forced into making bad loans- even tho not a single example exists?

Yeah, you've told us your talking points, over and over and over.... That's not good enough. Now, give us your REASONS for saying what you said, and be prepared to show us how it is true.

Storymark , go fuck yourself I DID show where Bush tried, in 2003, to regulate Fanny and Freddie more, and also showed you were Barney Frank said there was no reason to do so, all was well, and this was nothing but an attempt by the Right to clamp down on minorities and make them fear there's a problem w/ the housing when there was none.

I'm so god damn fucking sick of this merry go round, you chosing to see what you want, ignoring what you don't like, acting like i never said anything, when I've given you exactly what you wanted, sometimes a few times over,

I don't give a f*ck what Barney Frank said... WHO DID WHAT? Were votes taken in committee?

I don't give a f*ck what YOU think the banking rules were "supposed" to do.. WHAT DID THEY DO? Did they actually force banks to make bad loans?? If so, certainly there must be ONE example out there. If not... you have no case.

SIG.....it's good enough, because it's been explained.

I'm not playing the role of non believer to your Inquisition, where I must phrase every little respone in the form of a question, with pictures, links, in triplicate with little arrows and circles. Go role play Senate Commission w/ someone else, I'm not playing.

G'day.

And you've been shown how there was a lot more to it than your cherry picked info, yet you consistantly ignore it.

Funny, because that's how we view you. You grab one little bit of info, cling to it, and deny everything else. just like you are here.

But no, you don't give us "what we wanted" - you are frequently asked direct questions, which you refuse to answer.

You've been shown, yet ignore. But you've got your nice little pat cowards excuse now.

Oh, and go fuck yourself, too.

Look, I'm asking you to explain yourself about YOUR economic opinions. Has nothing to do with Bush. In fact, it's a blatantly obvious avoidance tactic and we all can see that.

No, you haven't. You've repeated the same stuff over and over. That's not an explanation. That's just your opinion.

I've responded to your posts. I looked up Fannie and Freddie's "ownership" of toxic mortgages. I looked up the Citibank lawsuit that you linked. I'm not igonring your posts, I've responded to them with research.

You, OTOH, have not addressed a single one of my questions. All you've done is bloviate. And frankly, who give a rat's patooties about your opinion? Where's the data? Where's the facts? If your opinion is so devoid of facts... well then, it's just one more blowhole's noise.

This is what happens when you try having a conversation with someone who cannot differentiate between fact and opinion.

It's a nice attepmt, though. He'll only back up his bullshit if we irrifutable prove that which he refuses to accept any evidence of. It's clever in a psychopathic sorta way.

Amen, brother. If Rappy knew the difference maybe he wouldn't try to emulate Limbaugh so closely. (ie bloviating)

Story,

Go stroke your ego somewhere else. It's NEVER been shown that Bush lied us into war, you know how I know this ? I've been asking the same question on other boards for 5 year now, and NOT ONCE has any lying, limp wristed, coward punk of a Liberal aswered that question.

NOT EVER.

So, until you or anyone answer....go fuck yourself.

Liar.

I've seen that question answered DOZENS of times. Every time it is, you just rationalize or ignore, your usual procedure.

Now, you're just going to use it to hide from asnwering for any of your bullshit.

You continually prove the depths of your cowardice.

Cheers, ya little chickenshit.
