Last I heard, he was renting the place. He doesn't own it. My guess would be it's one of McCain's seven or ten homes that he doesn't remember having. ;)

LOL! Actually, last I heard, when my dad was fantasizing about moving there a few years ago, it's actually impossible for anyone who isn't a native to own land in Hawaii. You can get something ludicrous like a 99 year lease, but you could never get the deed to the land. Anyone who owns land in Hawaii most likely inherited it. And if you have Hawaiian blood, you don't pay property tax. If Obama owns any land there, it's a further slap to anyone who still believes he wasn't a born native. Of course it's also an indicator that he has money to burn since neither of his parents were native to the state and hence he wouldn't have inherited the land, and would also be paying property tax. Land is a scarce resource in Hawaii, it doesn't come all that cheap.
...I'm probably the only one who finds any of that interesting.
